Why would a CS rep know if they had the proper material or not? Everyone seems to be treating it as gospel but that really seems like the kind of shit you would say at work to get a customer to go away.

Well they're a representative. Either way Bethesda should pony up and ship people proper bags if there's no shortage. They paid $200. Prepay the labels for shipping the nylon bag back, even...

I'm surprised there are even Bethesda fanboys left...

Anyone saying 'the bags are different' are entirely missing the point. They had canvas to make these bags that were just given out for free to influencers, but they couldn't be bothered to use it for the bags that were actually advertised as being canvas bags. It's gross.

To influencers: let me give you all these snazzy canvas bags for free.

To fans who actually spend good amount of money: look, we know we advertise canvas bags and shit but damn, sorry, we blew our canvas money for influencers, so..... Here's nylon for ya. Thank you and goodbye!

Yeah it's kinda fucked up a bunch of people got a bunch of canvas bags for free and other goodies, not to mention I assume free plane rides and what not, and people who payed $200 for a CE got what wasn't advertised because it cost too much money.

Man ... SURELY there have to be lawsuits against Bethesda's incredibly misleading and factually false advertisement here.

I sincerely hope Bethesda is given the right amount of shit both online, in terms of sales and in the court of law if need-be for the bullshit they've pulled off here ... and this is coming from someone whose bought Skyrim on 3 different platforms and generally called himself a fan of Bethesda games.

Oh shit, here come the influencers, roll out the canvas carpet! Hey fam, how you doing? Right this way.

Oh, loyal customers? You guys can go up the fire escape, there's a nylon rug you can wipe your filthy peasent feet on at the top. 200 dollars entry fee at the door.

Well some countries have pretty rigid consumer protection laws and I'd imagine Bethesda might be a little hot water in those places. Not sure this applies to the US though. There was a video posted in one of the other threads where a lawyer went over Bethesda's EULA regarding refunds for the game and he pretty much stated that US consumers are basically screwed and any class action lawsuit will be an uphill battle.

This is why I don't understand the 'but these bags are different' people, as if that harms the whole point of this whole thing, which is the seeming contempt or at least indifference at best that Bethesda is showing to people who actually are supporting them the most, because of course only hardcore fans are willing to shell that amount of money for a game.

It's a shockingly accurate term, as publishers see these YouTubers as nothing more than an extension of their marketing efforts and many of these "influencers" don't have a moral and ethical compass strong enough to do anything but fall in line.

What does ethics have to do with this

Free shit is free shit, if I was a big YouTuber I wouldn't think twice about accepting merch and money when it literally does nothing to compromise my content. One brand shoutout isn't going to physically hurt my viewers.

That's not the same bag.

I get that it's more scandalous if you say, "Influencers got THE bag!" But influencers just got A bag. It's not a good look regardless, but this just seems like grabbing onto something to create today's "Bethesda just keeps giving!"
While you are correct I hope people grill BGS long enough that it will traumatize them to release shitty game, at least for a while. It worked on EA, at least it affected them that it gave them pause and seems doing good on MTX area recently

you don't say

if that's your measuring stick for ethics, I don't need to say anything else lol

again

who am i hurting by being sponsored

Unless I'm in a legitimate journalistic position where integrity is absolutely crucial, who gives a fuck

these YouTubers are literally random dudes, no one's putting them on the same level as actual trades

It's only been fairly recently that YoutTubers are required to fully disclose in clear terms if a publisher or outside company provided compensation in any form

why do you think this rule became a thing in the first place

many "influencers" have no problem being deceptive towards their audience....and given the way many content creators present themsleves as unbiased and engaging in a "personal" relationship with their community, this is a real problem and rules are being put in place to curb this behavior.

TBF, people who are in charge of making the promo bag and the one making the shitty nylon bag are probably from different department and had no knowledge of one another. It's very common for PR people to send very nice gifts to journalists (or in this case, YTber.)

Who cares

Once again, they're regular people making funny videos and entertainment. Anyone regarding these content creators as actual authority figures on any topic whatsoever is being intentionally naive. So long as they aren't trying to push scummy shit like microtransactions or sell company shirts to kids online who gives a fuck if they take a bag or two

Unless one is a YouTuber that holds himself up as a 'voice' in whichever community he partakes in which is entirely that person's prerogative

Considering many of these influencers appeal to young children and teenagers....lots of people?

Your mistake is assuming everyone who watches YT is a well-informed adult capable of separating promotion from honestly.

And occasionally taking a piece of swag from a publisher obviously isn't a big deal. But an honest person will happily disclose this information.

But there are tariffs on cotton that went into effect in July. This almost certainly means that the cost and supply of cotton in China (where these bags would come from) is hurting. I don't get why this is the point of contention. There probably was a cost issue with the bags.

But who cares about the excuse? The only thing that should matter is that Bethesda didn't alert customers to the change.
I think it would inflate...10 dollars each bag? (Being generous here) hardly they would sell the 200 CE at loss.

It still doesn't explain anything. The main problem is that they never warned any costumer. They showed that they are a company that cant be trusted.

The FTC cares enough to tell people that they need to disclose.
