I know she's younger in those games, but even by then she's quite the legend and quite experienced, and has spent years training with the Chozo and in the Galactic Federation and whatnot. And of course she's not a statue, but that's just not how I'd picture her. There are ways and ways of being angry, and that fan-art just looks edgy in a way that doesn't fit the character.

Well, you mentioned Sarah Connor... She was the OPPOSITE of "calm" and her whole deal was she kept losing her cool.

I mean, there's plenty of points in that movie where people are telling her "chill out"... sometimes played for laughs.

If anything, I hope Samus isn't THAT much of a loose cannon.

Over the past 2 years I've beaten Metroid Prime 1, 2, 3 and Samus Returns 3DS. 1 is one of the best games I've ever played

Metroid Prime 3 was great

Samus Returns was pretty good but the boss variety sucked

Metroid Prime 2 is an unholy abomination

The original Prime 1 design was good, it looked like more of a mature adult doing their work ala Ripley from Alien. She fits the idea of what I'd imagine Samus looks like. Someone who gets things done and is intimidating if you cross her. She doesn't look like some person with anime model good looks and complexion. She'd look like someone who doesn't give a crap what she looks like

I thought the Prime design was pretty dull. If she didn't care what she looked like her hair would be fairly short to better accommodate her helmet. Generally speaking though I didn't find it to be a particular iconic or memorable look for her. In essence I'm saying the Prime design was simply a boring attempt at a design for a Samus based in realism, and I don't think it translated well to the in game lokk.

That isn't to say that that any of her designs since then have been any better. Several were atrocious, in particular Prime 2 and 3. The current Smash one is the best thus far, but frankly I think the entire Zero Suit concept is awful. Honestly I think something based on the design for her younger self in other M would be better. Short hair, drop the stupid blue suit for the more a practical look. Add in a few flair touches, and it could be really good.

Does it have to be MP4? What about the rumoured Metroid Prime Trilogy Remaster?
I honestly feel they can't announce the trilogy independent of Prime 4. Had we already seen gameplay of Prime 4, sure, but since we effectively know nothing about it, announcing the trilogy to get people rehyped for the new entry without ever seeing said entry would be really weird.

Also if Prime 4 really does recapture the magic of the trilogy, it'd make for a really solid pace of trailer lineups. People remember how amazing those games were and then see the new one.

Thats how I feel at least.

Sad thing Nintendo is probably going to show Samus off and there's going to be a topic created how she doesn't look like what "we" want...

I have to agree. MP1 is my top rated game ever and Metroid is one of my top 5 series ever. But Zero Suit Samus looks ridiculous in general and looks really bland in MP1.

If we are looking to cinema for references of what we think Samus should be like, I think Emily Blunt in Live Die Repeat(Edge of Tomorrow) is a great reference both in visual design and personality:

Oh dear God yes.

Samus Returns Samus x Emily Blunt style build, with the facial features of Emily Blunt as shown. (Similar hair too)

They should just go whole hog on the alien inspiration and make Samus look like a younger Sigourney Weaver.

Prime 2 isnt bad but man it has issues. To me, 1 is an 11/10, one of the greatest games ever made, and 2 is like a 7.5-8/10. Its just pretty good. Its got so many things that prevent me from really loving it. Minor tweeks to that game wouldve made it just as good as 1 imo.

We, sir, have different opnions. MP2=?MP1>MP3>Samus Returns. MP2 though is kinda weird. I only really loved it the most when I started replaying the games (to sequence break).

I haven't actually played Returns yet, does she appear out of the suit at all(ending or otherwise)? I know there was some concept art out there that looked like a step up in design, but I wasnt sure what actually appeared in game.

There's an ending with her out of the Power suit and in the Zero suit of course but there's no extended section like in Zero Mission or Other M.

Trailer opens with dark, foreboding, and alien locales. Atmospheric music plays in the background. Suddenly, cut to Samus. Samus Returns design to the Varia suit, though with slightly more realistic proportions. Action shots of Samus fighting Prime style pirates. Shots of immersive as fuck first person visor shots. End of trailer, we see a mysterious figure in unfamiliar power armor. The visor opens up, but the face is shrouded in darkness. It says,

"Remembah me?"

Cut to black. Metroid Prime:

Returns

I hated Dark Aether, the bosses were kind of lame and the Sanctuary was one of the worst areas I've ever seen in a game, also that music was awful IMO

2 and 3 pale compared to the original, but they're still pretty dope. I wouldn't go below an 8 for either of them.

4 has big shoes to fill, and I can't say I'm not concerned with it being developed by another company, but I have faith that Nintendo wouldn't ship it unless they were wholly confident in its quality. As long as it's as good as the last time, that's fine. I'd love the perfection of 1, but I'll happily take MP3-2.

Everybody keeps saying Prime Trilogy, but I hope they just make a big Metroid collection and throw in all the 2D games as well. Only Samus Returns would pose any problems since it's a dual screen game. Dream big, people!

Edit: bah! Forgot about the off shoot DS games and Federation Force.

Wow, I never thought I would disagree so much with someone. The music in Sanctuary Fortress was one of the best music in the whole trilogy. The whole area is amazing and also one of the best in the whole trilogy.

You don't deserve to play anything of this franchise.
