Vergil has never been playable in the base game. Have you never been hyped about previous games besides the Special Editions?
DMC3 was a good game without Vergil and the Special Edition made it better. DMC4 was not.

I feel the same way. Nero never grew on me, I just can't start to like him. I tolerate him at best. His scenes so far in DMC5 make me a bit aggressive. And him being Vergil's son gave me the final blow. It's so wrong in many ways.Pretty much. I don't like Nero as a character, I don't like his moveset and I don't like his design. The fact that he's become the face of the series just bugs the hell out of me, and then Kylo Ren 2.0 being there and playable too instead of Vergil is just depressing.
We're never gonna get a full-spec Dante game again at this rate.
I think it's really obvious that people really wanted DmC 2 instead of 5. So the hype just isn't gonna be all that strong as it could've been due to that.
When 4 was coming out, we had Ninja Gaiden 2 on the horizon. Ultimately maybe a little disappointing, but DMC4 felt like the under dog in a way. I think Bayo 3 will probably be better than V, but it's been long enough that nothing is holding back the hype at this point.
But we didn't know 4 was rushed at the time, and it certainly looked fantastic at the time. That first area which was featured in the demo looked beautiful at the time. It was by far the best looking game in its genre, as we'd only really had NG Sigma, and it looked better than NG2 anyway. But it felt like the under dog to me, because NGB had really dethroned DMC3 for a lot of people, so a lot of the hype was with NG2. But given Bayo 3 hasn't been shown, and it's been much longer since DMC4 than it has Bayo 2, I think it feels like DMCV is kind of on its own within that genre right now. Regardless of which will ultimately be the better game. The two situations arent really comparable. DMC4 was rushed out incomplete. DMCV got 4+ years of dev time and it shows. With a AAA budget the game looks like a stunner.
On the other hand while Bayonetta 2 was great, it didnt really push the formula forward and was even a regression from 1 in many ways. Not to mention on Switch hardware, Bayonetta 3 will look only marginally better than its 5 year old predecessor.
Im picking up both since we get so few stylish action games but Bayonetta 3 has her work cut out for her and will inevitably be compared to DMCV when it does get shown off.
Yep, and when that happens we'll all be waiting for your post about how he's not Vergil lamenting more and more how Nero is a bad character, etc.I was responding to other people. Relax.
And besides, eventually they'll reveal Kylo Ren's playstyle and we'll be able to talk about that too.
Is Devil May Cry not as big of a brand as I initially thought?

But when you look at the gameplay. It actually really is. o:
Well, for one, it's not DmC2. You can bet there'd be a whole lotta more noise if that were the case. There'd be a lot of trolling too, unfortunately.
DMCV's trailers have more views than Resident Evil 2's on YouTube.
Like, considerably so.
They hype levels are in a good place.
