On the Demand VS Stock conundrum we regularly encounter with the PS4, I'm starting to think that some is held back to sustain demand, build momentum, and keep an iron clad grip on the gaming mind share. You'll have to go back a few pal threads to see the trend. I remember the first Glacier White PS4 Destiny bundle selling for triple the retail price on ebay. At the time I figured it was an anomaly. But the 2015 Arkham Knight bundle showed that the anomaly was in fact, a trend. It reached $1000 per unit on ebay and to me that stood out because the console itself really wasn't anything to speak of. Quite ugly imho. But think about it, since 2015, these bundles have created such a frenzy that buying into the eco system through said bundle(s) has become a "thing" in it's own right.

I don't doubt that Sony could have sold as many Spider-Man bundles as they produced. I mean, in most places the bundle wasn't even available on black Friday due to demand. So why didn't they? Why haven't they all generation? From the Vader bundle to the MGS red bundle. The recent glacier blue bundle, The GOW bundle, and the PS classic. They could have sold a lot more than what they allocated so why allocate so little in the bigger scheme of things?

The only plausible answer I can think of is that the hype, word of mouth, and the momentum / mind share that translates too is worth more than we're aware of.

Just my two cents...

As for Detroit, one interesting detail is that they mentioned in their recent montage that the fish in the first chapter was saved over 4 million times, according to the current worldwide stats 62% of players saved the fish. From that we can deduce that the first chapter was finished around 6.5 million times while people were connected to the internet. The game is quite replayable, but all trends seem to indicate that most people don't replay games, many don't even finish one playthrough after all. Used sales and lent discs are probably high for this type of game, but nevertheless this seems to strongly indicate that LTD sales should be past 2 million already, maybe even closing in on 3 million. Hopefully QD posts an update soon.

Yes, even now you can buy the game for 46€ on amazon.es. It's also been 45€ or lower on amazon.de for the past few days.

Nintendo/retailers have been more agressive than usual with the pricing of this title in some european countries. It should help the game to have softer drops.

I think it should easily be over 3 million by now, the game had good legs, even better than GoW in some countries (Germany, though lower sales I'd bet but still).

That seems incredibly unlikely to me. Didn't it open to like 40k in the UK? I find it hard to believe that such s weak opening in a strong market for Sony could be overcome to that extent. I'd be surprised and impressed if it reached 2 million but well over 3? That cannot be correct surely.

Sony's WW presence is too strong, shortly after release it crossed a million and QD said it's selling faster than their last best selling game which sold +5 million.

Well that was 5 million after a long time, we're talking about a tremendous increase in half a year- less even.

We're just going to have to agree to disagree though without significant data/insight beyond 'Sony's WW presence'.

I don't know how accurate this is but this is a Chinese chart showing how strong PS4 exclusives are performing there, there are many markets like this which we don't get data for. https://www.bilibili.com/read/cv559956?from=articleDetail

There is also an example of HZD dropping fast and people thinking it stopped selling but sure, agree to disagree.

I bought Detroit last week for $20.It's a great game for that price,in $20-30 range.I think it would have done even better if Sony launched it at $40,like they did with Ratchet & Clank. It's just not $60 game,i love it but i just wouldn't pay full price for it,only 2 games i bought for $60 at launch this year were God of War and RDR2.

3 million would be nuts indeed. HR topped out at 3.3 million on PS3 and that was after 3.5 years. 2 million was reached after 1 year on the market. If Detroit gets to 3 million faster than Heavy Rain got to 2 million then the game will be a comparable giant success even if you take the budget difference into account. So I doubt it is at 3 million yet.
