the new update for kirby star allies has been released, adding four dream friends to play as in the guest star mode. one of them (the three mage-sisters) is locked, i think you have to beat the new mode (heroes in another dimension) to unlock them. EDIT: you have to beat the new mode with 100 hearts to unlock the mage sisters.

patch notes:
Version 4.0
  • Added the new mode, Heroes in Another Dimension, which becomes available after clearing Story Mode.
  • Added four new Dream Friends: Magolor, Taranza, Susie, and the Three Mage-Sisters.
  • Added a new hardest difficulty level to the mode The Ultimate Choice.
  • Added new celebration pictures to be completed by collecting Picture Pieces.
  • Issues have been fixed to make for a more pleasant gaming experience.

also, HAL has confirmed that this is the final content update for the game. (nintendolife)
It's been a great run for Kirby Star Allies, with new, free content being added regularly ever since the game launched back in March, but a new blog post from HAL Laboratory confirms that this is the end for new material - as well as thanking players for their continued support. The game's director, Shinya Kumazaki, shared this image of the team celebrating the completion of its development.

i'm going to start playing the new mode to see what it's like.
it's good that they updated the game three times with new content, but it still remains one of the more disappointing [for me] nintendo games on switch. i hope the next game is much better.

That's a p good mid-jump shot

Gonna have to give this a whirl later. New mode sounds most interesting to me since I've already played through the main game about 5 times at this point, lol

The guy in the tan jacket has a 100% mario jump going on, behind him is an incoming superman punch and someone about to throw an invisible lasso
I love this image.

Oh and I guess I'm playing star allies tonight then.

One of my favorite games of 2018, one of the very few games I've 100%, and clocked up over 50 hours. Can't wait to eventually come back and try the new content.

Same for me. I was really looking forward to Star Allies after the great Triple Deluxe and phenomenal Planet Robobot, but the game left me feeling super underwhelmed. Like seriously, the series has been going in a great direction ever since Kumazaki took over as director but Star Allies felt like a bit of a misstep.

That being said, the Dream Friends updates have done a lot to improve my opinion of the game. From bringing back Rick/Coo/Kine and Adeleine/Ribbon, to making glorious assholes like Marx and Magolor playable. It's a blast for a longtime Kirby fan to have access to all these characters.

i also did a run of guest star with the mages and boy they are quite strong, bosses just melt with there beam moves

So...

With all the Zero hints in the previous updates, did they add Zero into the game as a new bonus boss? Something similar? Or has no one beaten the new mode yet to find out?

Beating Heroes from another Dimension and getting all the hearts unlocks the true final boss of that mode (The Three Mage Sisters), beating them unlocks the Soul Melter EX in the boss rush mode. Get to the final boss and instead of Void Soul you get Void, which is pretty much Void Soul colored as 0 and given a lot more powerful attacks including a few that looks suspiciously like Dark Matter moves. Pause description are also more interesting as it also connects a good chunk of the games together.

I actually just picked this up last night. Having a gaming night with my nephews on Saturday and wanted another 4 player coop game. Would we be best off just starting with Story mode or are other modes more fun? None of us have ever played the game before.

They really went out with a bang. The new mode actually provides some challenging collectibles and the bosses are pretty damn hard even with three allies. Plus there's four new Guest Star modes, Soul Melter EX difficulty (that you have to activate by inputting the code for Extra Mode from Kirby's Dream Land), and a super final ultimate unlockable for beating said difficulty. This game is officially better than RtDL, TD, and Robobot. THAT'S RIGHT, I SAID IT!

You don't really get a choice, you have to play Story mode first as pretty much everything they've added in the updates is post-game content.

I am hoping for a 33% discount on Nintendo's Christmas sale, to get this.

Going to have to give the new mode a look later. Their continued support for the game has been great, but I guess it had to end sooner or later. Seems like they ended on a bang at least.

A simply outstanding entry in the Kirby series. Now the game feels like quite the valuable package with no additional fee for any of these add-on packs. And here I was thinking the game was short...

these are all great updates, but the main mode of the game, the story mode, remains short and underwhelming. i would have preferred one or two new worlds to be added to the story mode through updates instead of what was added.
it's very cool to get all these new characters to play as, but it's not very tempting to play the same set of levels (with some slight alterations) 12 times (or more if you want to play as regular friends). they all have interesting move sets but personally i don't feel motivated to finish each of their campaigns.
also forced co-op and friends is something i hope never happens again, it seriously ruins the game.

Agreed. All of this added stuff is really surprising and cool, but the game itself is so simple and easy that I don't feel very motivated to actually use all these new characters.

I wouldn't have called it the easiest (at least, prior to the introduction of characters that can totally gimp it), but goddamn just the idea of the parallel bosses back to back with limited recovery is legitimately stress inducing.

While free post-launch support is appreciable, I think more and more about waiting before buying Nintendo exclusives nowadays. Between this, Splatoon, Xenoblade Chronicles 2 etc. many of their games got significant free updates during the first 6 months or so.

Well in some case for XC2. U will also need NG+ to be able access those content so launch day purchase will put you ready to enjoy those free content.

Would people consider Star Allies a worthwhile purchase now ? Maybe at a reduced price ?

Really glad I picked this up during BF on Best Buy for $40, having a lot of fun with the game and Kirby is still the cutest thing ever.

at $40, for sure. it still doesn't feel like a $60 game to me, and i usually don't have a problem with short games, but the quality of content didn't feel like what i expect from a game of that price. to think that this is the same price as odyssey, botw and xc2 makes it kinda hard to justify buying it full price.

i don't know, to me i enjoy beating the game and then coming back once new content has been added. waiting 6 months to get a game is imo for games from developers/publishers who are notoriously known for putting out buggy games so it's best to start your playthrough once everything has been fixed.

Just give me a yes or no answer, but are there any new bosses in the update that aren't just the EX ones and the three mage sisters at once?

This is the best kind of post launch support. I remember back when I was younger, I thought "man it'd be so cool to play as an enemy character" and thats this game to the nth degree. Its awesome.

That being said, poor one out for Galacta Knight

No, but all bosses have new attacks and are generally far different from their regular counterpart to the point where they could be considered new bosses.
