Steam reviews mention untouched cutscenes (so low resolution) and very similar gameplay to the original release.
To be confirmed though.

Have very fond memories of the Master System game, might have to search that out and see how it holds up.

I downloaded it yesterday for Switch. It's pretty fun!! Just the way I remember it.

The Spanish dub is horrible. Sometimes characters talk in English instead of Spanish, I suppose it's a bug but nothing serious. It sounds even better in English than in Spanish, and I'm considering to change the language.

It's very popular in the Basque Country as well.

I suppose its the original dub from the Atari publishing days?
It was absolutely terrible, made in the Basque Country, were they have the worst voice actors of all Spain. (luk international animes, shitty reality american TV and mediocre documentaries...).l
They should have gone with the spanish voiceactors of some of the animated movies like Asterix en Bretaña, or Asterix y Cleopatra. Those or the live action movies voice actors, that are pretty good also.

Didn't even know this was a game. Thought the neat 3D GBA game was the only version, but I guess that was a handheld version.

All mainland europe and south america. UK and north america dont give two fucks about it sadly (same with the majority of the european comic industry, that is pretty amazing, so its a pity about that also)

Back in the 80s & 90s Asterix was everywhere in the UK!

I remember having a massive tome of a collection of various stories that I got from the local book shop.

Did they became less popular after the 90's there? Its popularity started in most of europe during the 60's and never really faded completely out even if it had a lot of highs depending of the decade.

Is Asterix popular outside of France and Belgium?
Asterix was big in Italy up until the late 80s at least. I read it as a kid and have almost the whole collection.
Sounds amazing in Italian too thanks to some stellar translations (the art of good translation and localization seems to have been quickly lost during the past two decades though), even if reading it in French is the best. It's one of the greatest comics ever.

So this game is good? It's full price on consoles so a bit too expensive for me atm, but if more positive impressions are posted, I may definitely consider it when it's on sale.

I've no idea I'm afraid, I kind of lost interest when I hit my teens (mid 90s).
I do recall having a plethora of Asterix related stuff though, I definitely ended up getting the Amiga/Master System games!

Luk International... That dubbing company is the worst. I didn't know it was in the Basque Country. Believe me, cartoons dubbed to the Basque language have nothing to do with the quality this company has. They really have a huge quality and fortunately they don't share the same voice actors.

This looks pretty interesting but $50 for a remaster of a PS2-era game based on a virtually unknown property in America isn't the most enticing prospect. I'll definitely check it out on sale though, hopefully reviews are positive.

Well, is not so much luk international itself and more that they use the voice acting studios there for the spanish versions of Doraemon, shin chan, etc... they use other (much better) voice acting studios when they distribute the same anime series on catalonia, valencia, basque coutry, galicia... so its strange they want to go for such mediocrity in spanish. Probably because its much cheaper, like always lol

Man, Asterix is one of the reasons I got into writing comics, will definitely have to check this out... when it goes on sale, though.
