My brother is a mechanic in Florida (5 years in Boston and now 3rd year in Florida). He works for a car company (major one), and 800 miles ago he fixed an engine that came back today with apparently some damage as something came loose and caused some havoc. He has never had something like this happen before. I asked him if it's possible that the engine itself was faulty, and while he said yes the pessimism is making him worried that he's going to be on the hook personally for fixes.

He said that a while back he remembers a mechanic that was found to be "they screwed up" and was required to pay for the ~$8,000 fixes.

Can't read any responses until tomorrow as I have an early morning but would appreciate any input. Entirely possible I get no responses but I thought I'd try here before going elsewhere.

Have your brother get in touch with an actual lawyer there to seek out advice instead of asking random strangers on the internet who might not have a law degree. There's a lot of details missing out of this short post anyway so I doubt that any effective advice can be given.

If they want him to sign anything admitting he may have been at fault it would be wise to talk to a lawyer first.
