What do you all think of the level/world design in this game?

LOVE IT!

Depending on your difficulty if it's high enough (I dropped it down one below Apocalyptic) The world feels dangerous and carefully picking your fights but in some cases you can totally avoid enemies you feel are just too powerful.

Just defeated Avarice, really fun boss.
So did I and I had fun as well.

I'm not digging the tech issues on PS4 pro. The framerate is messy and its kind of messing with the flow of combat. Not to mention sometimes when your moving through the game world the screen will just pause for 30 seconds or so while it tries to load the next area.

Also, at the part i'm at now kind of sucks because all the enemies can lunge at you from so far away and the dodge just doesn't feel reliable when there are too many enemies.

I cannot say enough good things about this game. It really does stand on it's own as a Darksiders game. Game is such an enjoyment to play. I am crossing my fingers we get a 4th after this.

Highlight this post. Need help on a miniboss. Don't know how to use spoiler tags haha.

I can't seem to hit the octopus' eyes with my sickle thing. I see that the reticule turns orange, but the boss doesn't actually get damaged.
This happened to me too, you have to lock on with Left Trigger or your equivalent., took me forever to figure it out.
Edit also just doing [ spoiler] message [ /spoiler] adds a spoiler.

I didn't even know this was a function until I finally gave up and looked up how to do it. Saw the person targeting but they didn't explain how they did it hahah. Thanks bud!

Anyone kill
Usiel
in the
Lust
fight?

If so, how does that play out? I kept him alive and
they made some sort of agreement to return the favor. Does that impact the future at all?

Not gonna lie. The sound that force makes when charging up Salvation is ridiculous. I don't know if I'll ever get tired of that. It might be the coolest overall transformation for obvious reasons.

Wrapped it up, 2 trophies short of plat but it was quite enjoyable. The level design got surprisingly more complex as the game went on and I appreciated the last couple areas a lot even if ones general art design isn't my thing.

Just general quick thoughts: I think the game has a lot of cool ideas that aren't as well fleshed out as I would hope. Solid fun game without excelling at any one thing is fairly accurate, which I think a few reviewers pointed out. The combat is fun but I wish it had a bit more going on (more air time/in-air movement is what I was really hoping for). The bosses still felt a bit too simplistic for what I was hoping for. The last two are much more in line with what I wanted but it took a while to get there and I was hoping for even more complexity. The world design is good and as I said, the last two major areas (especially the last one) were surprisingly fun and complex and I enjoyed it a lot. The story is good and I really like the universe a lot and I think they do it well although it definitely feels, like a lot of the game, like it lacks the polish and sheen to have things wrap up neatly. While the ending isn't abrupt, the execution is a bit jarring and sudden (a quick cut to credits for example).

More specifically:
There's no smooth fade out to credits and it sort of just quickly ends Fury's portion of the story even though it feels like it's still got a lot left to do. Like in Darksiders 2, Death finishes his stuff and it immediately goes into Darksiders 1's ending and I thought that was a really nice way to end that game and this, especially because it's much earlier in the timeline, ends with a lot of time left for things to happen so it just feels like a weird cut off point.

Only real complain I have about the story, really. Again, I enjoyed the game a lot but it didn't excel amazingly at any one thing. Woof at those performance issues. Been a while since I've had a game crash as often as it does or have framerate and resolution issues. I have a real high tolerance for this stuff so it didn't hurt my experience all that much but it definitely is rough. Figured I'd comment on that at least since I know it's basically the prevailing issue with the game.

.
I think the DLC will take place where Fury and the Humans were going, not that having it in DLC is a good solution but I think it allows some story progress to happen while still having an ending feel conclusive in the main game

If that's the case then that should hopefully tie up my main ending complaint.

other little thing:
I found the post credits scene a bit unnecessary; Like ya obviously it was Lilith, and more importantly, Lucifer, playing everyone again, and thought it was kinda redundant to basically just do Darksiders 2's post credits scene... again (effectively)

Started exploring around the starting area and wound up on the other side of this building. Am I supposed to make this jump somehow? There's no cyclone, no branch to swing across on, and it's too far for a flame jump.

That spot looks like it was part of the main path at the beginning of the game. I remember it because there was some stuff I couldn't get to.

Pretty sure there was an item where you're standing, and you can easily reach it from the other side
just by levitating across.

Yeah I get it but if you've been following these threads you can see some people actually ask about starting Darksiders 3 without playing the other two. So teasing potential new fans isn't so bad

This is the third time we've been told this heaven and hell conflict (albeit from a different perspective). I don't think long time fans will be upset with retold story bits.

It was a glide-able chasm, but I guess I was just short the firsit time I tried that.

In other news, I accidentally sold my first Essence of the Chosen, so now I guess I'm locked out of the trophy to make 5 enhancements balanced. Why are you even allowed to sell those things?

I really like the game but the performance, even on my pc, is horrible.

I preordered the PS4 version and was quite bummed out when i played for the first hour. So i bought the pc-version because i thought "fuck it, time to brute force this" (i have an i7, 16gb ram, a rtx 2080 and the game is installed on my ssd) but as soon as i leave ulthanes haven snactuary my fps tanked. I lowered my AA but shit hit the fan badly when i entered the subway system. Holy shit this can't be normal. Extreme lagging controls (xbox one controller) and the game started chugging so bad that a group of normal mobs killed me 4 times in a row because the game simply didn't felt like taking my input. I dodged a few minutes earlier just fine but suddenly i can't even turn the camera properly.

So back to the my PS4 Pro i go and the same sections on the Pro aren't as horrendous and at least playable.

I'm very dissapointed in the developers/publisher but the game itself is fun. Holy shit did they need more time and money to make this game perform better.

There's six available, five in secret areas and one you buy, so you're all right

I'm conflicted on buying this because with it being a Joe Madureira project, I can't believe that the last game will ever be released.

Looks great though.

Seems like the next patch will rebalance difficulty levels, because many found even Story difficulty to be too hard.

while it's good they are listening, why couldn't they wait a little more and balance things and fix performance issues before the release?

Especially in Darksiders III case where the series is at risk, releasing it this way is not wise.

Run (press L3) towards the edge, double jump, then do a charged jump (hold jump button while in "fire Fury mode")
I entered that area where you stand in that pic from the other side. :-)

I'm playing on Balanced and it doesn't seem crazy tough. I've died under 10 times 4 bosses in which seems reasonable. Fair enough if they want to tweak Story difficulty though, it's the sort of thing that should be there for accessibility.

What do you all think of the level/world design in this game?

I recently played Darksiders II so it's still fresh in my mind and I can't help but feel that it lost some of its visual identity. DSIII still has a pleasing artstyle and interesting locales but I haven't seen anything as visually distinct as, say, the City of the Dead or Lostlight. It's no biggie, however, because I find the world way more appealing to navigate. Part of that has to do with Fury just feeling nice to control but the level layouts have a very good flow. The only thing that irks me is the compass. I kept thinking that I'd love Gunfire to work on a third-person Metroid (after Darksiders V ofc) but I'm not sure if it's because of the leveldesign or because you spend so much time in tight vents. :P

2 hours in, the camera during combat is complete shit and the jump\platforming are a little stiff.

But the rest of the game is great, evocative music, fury is a fun and badass character, the graphics are nice and the combat is fluid and responsive.
Even the level design is pretty good.

No bug on pc and the game run perfectly on a 1070 in 1440p60frame with 1-2 settings adjustment.

(Sorry for mmy english)

That doesn't sound too hot.

I'm not sure on the difficutly on the most easy setting but this isn't that hard of a game even on Apocalyptic if you actually play decently. Yeah it's harder then the previous games but it's really nothing to write home about.

I'd guess this is a result of people not expecting this jump and dificutly combined with the fact that they might just not be very good. I saw a thread on the Steam forums about a dude saying and I quote.

''
I'm done, Envy impossible to kill ; waiting for a trainer
I'm in easy mode and that crap kill me again and again and again...
I'm playing a game to have fun, not to put the devil out off me.
It's eavening and i'm in rage like if I wana fight on the UFC...''

So yeah not sure this nerf is justified when you got people this complaning.

"Hard"? Maybe not, but the camera is annoying as fuck and probably the worst boss in the game. Right now I'm up to
Lust
, because you know, since they wanted to copy Dark Souls so hard that they had to have that fight and I keep getting hit again and again with attacks that were dodged early or dodged late. As though the non stop
forward dash slashes
have mega tracking or huge phantom ranges. It gets even worse when
Smough joins the fight, because they fucking bunch up together and you can't see Lust from behind him before she attacks.
I can't really tell if it's just a camera issue or a hitbox issue, but it's very problematic. Plus, I am wearing a fully upgraded Obscurus and it doesn't matter at all.

The locked on camera is pretty shit with that I agree. That when you're fighting in groups or super tight spaces because it's a system made for 1v1 fights in open zones. I stoped using it for anything other then the boss fights or the minis and it worked out much better.

But Lust isn't a problematic boss when it comes to dodging nor the camera. Your timings must be really off or you're not very good.

Strife's weapons of choice are pistols, so probably DMC.

Yeah, it seems the way to go.

I am honestly curious, did they set out to make each version some sort of homage, or a clone to an action/adventure sub-genre.

Darksiders 1 was a Zelda-clone, with Darksiders 2 shifting from that and emphasizing a Diablo-inspired loot system, and then we have a game with souls-like combat mechanics. Knowing that Strife has guns, the reasonable thing to do is give him some sort of blade and make him a Dante clone (I hope they don't jump the gun and make a third-person shooter. The third-person shooter segments in both 1 and 2 are miserably awful).

So, basically
Darksiders 1: Zelda clone
Darksiders 2: Diablo-like loot
Darksiders 3: souls-like combat
Darksiders 4: potentially DMC

In a documentary on Darksiders they mentioned that they indeed had plans to make every game stand out on its own. When they started working on Darksiders 2, they knew they wanted to make Death plays drastically different from War, and they succeeded in that. It paid off on some level alas Darksiders 2 was less focused and kinda bloated, but still a very enjoyable game.

The choice with Darksiders 3 seems, to me, a little bit out of desperation to cater to the fans of the most popular action/adventure hack n slash franchise right now. Going by Jim Sterling's video on the game, they woefully missed the mark, but personally I think I am gonna love it from all I've seen.

I would have imagined Fury plays like Death. In that, platforming and puzzle-solving are a big emphasis, next to snappy combat style, but with something more varied like Lords of Shadows, which is by the way an excellent hack n'slash game. Incidentally, Lords of Shadows did the fixed camera thing competently unlike Darksiders 3 if the posts in this thread to go by.

I am really curious did they always wanted to do this succession, with each game being a clone to an action/adventure sub-genre, or that's how things came to pass. It seemed from the very beginning that Darksiders 1 was a sum of different elements from different games.

The last area is some Dark Souls shit in terms of design and interconnectivity. The catacombs and subway tunnel area is extremely interconnected as well but access to some areas require abilities you only get later in the game. I really like it.

Should I eat all of my consumable souls? I'm sitting on a huge stockpile, enough to level up several times.

Is leveling up actually a good thing? Apparently, each time you kill a Sin the enemies scale to your level. That sounds like it'll make the current area easier but subsequent areas harder.
