I'm not a FPP/VR guy at all but it would be weird for 7 to be a one off. It seems to have worked for this type of game really well.

Not buying it without PSVR(2) support as I only ever played Code Veronica and I have RE2Make coming up and the first one in my ps+ backlog. Never really cared about the franchise but it's pretty cool.

No issue vith psvr but I still want over the shoulder when aiming and cinematic camera when not, like one of the canceled re3.5.

No VR, no sale. RE7 in VR is one of the best gaming experiences I've ever had and I've never been a big Resident Evil/horror game fan.

I cringed at this part. The face was so bad and it wasnt scary one bit. Sorry.

That part was supposed to be funny, albeit probably inadvertently. They were emulating the deadites in Evil Dead. There was a Japanese article where the director goes over his influences in a cross promo with Ash vs. The Evil Dead. So, supposed to by way of emulating something inherently funny.

Mia is being kind of sassy there. Should still be intense tho.

Over-the-shoulder fans already get RE2make so turn Revelations into an old school fixed camera angles RE. If people want an action game they can go play CoD, Gears or one of the other million shooters out there.
Action Resident Evil is unlike any other action third-person shooter. The whole "Just go play CoD or Gears." has always been utter nonsense.

Resident Evil's whole point are the characters.
It's not horror or anything, hell I'll even say that Resident Evil was never scary to begin with.
But it always had great, funny and cheesy characters.

But out of the six or so games with over the shoulder shooting, the shooting has only been remarkable in two of the games. I think at this point many are clamoring for something other than a shooting focus.

RE2 is thankfully doing just that, and the shooting is going for a different feel too.

My point is calling action Resident Evil "Just CoD or Gears" is silly. That's like people calling RE7 Amnesia.

The game was critically acclaimed. It made a ton of money. It brought alot of fans back, why are people still trying to argue the game wasn't a success? Because it clearly fucking was.

If it's going to be like RE7 hell yeah, especially since we are getting a third person RE2 remake.

You would be shocked by how little the creators intended for the characters being the focus. The design documents actually were based on the player "making his own adventure", purposely creating dull archetypes in order to create mystery. So you'll rarely see a japanese development team thinking about plot, who's gonna be inside the experience and its word before making a game.

It's all about using the right beats and tones to create a specific feeling while playing, everything else is below on their list.

Of course, the intention is often surpassed by the interpretation of the public, and that's a pretty valid view, but rewriting history because you liked one aspect of a game more is a bit much.

RE7 is a VR masterpiece. If RE8 is not VR compatible I'll be pissed cause they have such a good thing going.

They could improve on the enemy variety, make RE8 more like the first two thirds of RE7, and add returning characters. Also maybe could improve their VR draw distance tech. And you have another VR masterpiece.

I'm hoping they get a bigger budget but don't lose the intimacy. Just show me a Save Room and I'm there day one.

I want them to ditch the numbering scheme and make two lines of games. More secluded, standalone horror games, and fuck yeah third person action shooting games.

I miss the hell out of RE5/6 and playing co-op with my Resident Evil buddy, and I think it's a total fucking waste to ditch the gameplay style entirely because some people didn't think it was spoopy enough. Those games were massive sellers and there are still millions of gamers who are okay with games like that.

At least RE2 seems to be a mixture of the two so they haven't ditched over the shoulder entirely, but man I want action, melee attacks, co-op, and Mercenaries back. I would legitimately be more excited about a game like that than another RE7 or even RE2 Remake.

I'd be for it. They definitely need to explore the series more in VR space, especially integrating with motion controls. The survivor spinoff makes a ton of sense too since VR seems like the natural next step for light gun games.

As long as they allowed a change between first & third-person, absolutely. RE7 in VR was intense!

REVII's problems basically only laid with Ethan, its relative shortness, lack of enemy variety, and weak lore ties. Pretty much everything else was excellent, and as in line with classic RE as you could want.

I'll echo the sentiment that if Capcom takes another stab at first person with REVII as a base, while improving its faults, they could offer us an unmissable experience.

No. I don't have a VR headset and probably won't get one for years to come unless an amazing deal (and a better selection of games) comes around.

I played RE7 without the VR and while it's a pretty solid game, the FPP didn't really add much for me. If anything, it cut out the amount of control the player had in some situations.

If they're gonna keep things spooky, then I hope for something more like what they're doing with REmake 2. I also wouldn't mind them leaning back towards the more action packed installments. RE4 is still one of my favorite games ever and while 5 and 6 have some obvious flaws, I got more enjoyment out of those than 7.

I mean, games that changes perspective probably wouldn't be a good idea in VR, unless the transition is really slow?

Just assuming tho, maybe there's already some games doing that.
Oh right, you were talking about a change in perspective in gameplay and not as some menu option.

You could make it a neat mechanic by ghosting out of your own body and maybe after a few seconds your ghost form disappears. Obviously it would need to be built into the lore, and the ghost part is just an example.

I'm all for an iterative REVIII entry which put some additional mechanics to make it a bit fresh.

Yes. They should take what they have learned from RE7 and create one more first person game.

i'd love RE7 to be basis for the mainline games going forward but seems like they're all in on RE2make and i don't believe they'd put so many resources into one game, so i expect RE7 to be a one-off thing.

still some potential there with VR though

Haven't played it. But REmake 2 looks like the game I have wanted for so long. I'm hoping 8 follows suit. They could easily add a 1st person and VR mode to RE2 and satisfy everyone who doesn't want the fixed camera style.

I guess it would be a problem "motion sickness wise", like a frenetic action game where you switch between Fixed/TP/FP perspectives sorta fast in some situations.

Change perspective in a menu option could be a good idea but i think it would be really hard to balance the gameplay. Like, enemies with weak spots in x body location would be incovenient to deal in a fixed camera, while auto aiming would make TP/FP redundant. I guess a menu option to change between TP and FP would be really great tho.

Would take it.

REmake 2 gives me the classical feel and I'm pretty sure they'll make REmake 3 eventually, so I'm open to another RE7 experience. Allthough they still need to work on a few things. Might as well throw zombies back in, as they're hardly that different from those mud enemies in terms of speed and movement.
