I've heard some things...
I also heard they got turned down though. So don't expect it soon, but there was definitely some interest in town. Might be renewed interest after this.
Great, now I'm gonna be disappointed by other casting choices :PAt some point, I thought JGL could do Spike. Not sure if I still feel the same way now, but he nailed a similar look at certain points in Looper
(also because Rian Johnson is a Bebop fan himself so that's probably why)

In an alternate world where a Bebop adaptation is being given the talent and care it deserves he would've been a good pick a few years ago. I think he's gone the Hayden Christensen route of just doing a few oddjobs (albeit still kinda high-profile ones) here or there now while focusing more on stuff he actually cares more about (e.g. family, HitRecord).
Spike should be played by a Japanese person. He was based off of Yusaku Matsuda's character in Tantei Monogatari.

At least it seems like the show will get the budget it probably deserves, but yeah I'm pretty skeptical overall.
Really it comes down to the casting. There's only really 3 characters for the majority of the show so if there's a weak link the show just ceases to work.

There's a significant percentage of the anime audience that believe a good live action faithful adaptation means all the character designs look EXACTLY like the anime, no matter how stupid they look in real life.

No matter what happens, Cowboy Bebop will still be there.
That being said, I've been burned too many times to be super optimistic, but if any series has a chance for a good adaptation, it's Bebop. Its writing focuses heavily on the human element of its characters. Many other anime/manga have excellent character writing as well, but too much is lost in live action because of the limited ability to portray their fantasy worlds or supernatural combat. Cowboy Bebop doesn't have those challenges. Science fiction has a long history of being handled well in live action, and the writing lends itself to live performance.
I hope we get an episode about the leftovers in the fridge. I could see it working like "Fly" from Breaking Bad.
It's good advice generally. Maybe we wouldn't have garbage like Comic Gate or Puddle Gate if we didn't take things we liked so absolutely seriously. :p
