I'll be honest, I have no idea. I just learned about it itt. I just think what people had said was being misrepresented.
I feel like most of it comes from who she is dating, which is of course extremely sexist.
when did she ever say she watches underage hentai? or is that just a dangerous baseless assumption?
It's not that you can't judge people for who they are involved with ever, it's that women get judged much more for this than men do. It's part of a bigger problem where women are reduced to men they are with.
I started to dislike her when it surfaced that she called out SOPHIE in a rant because she was using a female name, when in fact SOPHIE is trans. She's apologized for it but she comes off a little ignorant at times.
The Musk thing only amplified that. I don't support him or other billionaires like him because of their stances on things. She's come out in support of him with problematic opinions, so I refuse to support her.
Context. If I willingly hang out with Proud Boys, I'm a piece of shit. Even if I'm not a Proud Boy myself. Musk is a piece of shut, for many reasons, but most obviously because he's a billionaire garbage. There's no such thing as a good billionaire. They're all evil. Every one of them.
I've seen her five times. I don't know if I just feel nostalgic, or if I genuinely do 'miss the old grimes,' but I kind of agree.
Okay, this was good. It seemed completely serious at first and then turned to satire at the end. Almost got me.

I legit had to read this three times to make sure I wasn't having a stroke, but that certainly helps me understand why the song is so blatantly propagandist. Outside of Grimes's current personal politics I could see this being obviously satirical but even then it would be horrifically on-the-nose; inside this context it feels like I'm watching someone completely misunderstand everything about cyberpunk politics in real time, like I was on bizarro-world mastodon.social

Some of the things being said in this thread are ridiculous, awful, and yes, outright sexist - so it's a shame that they're overshadowing actual arguments about how it is worth criticizing Boucher for her relationship to Musk. If it were just a personal relationship, fine, strange bedfellows and it's none of my business, but I don't think it's unreasonable to be disappointed that someone who built their identity off of an anti-capitalist edge is now using literal Trumpisms to defend union busting.

I'm not here to psychoanalyze her, but I am saying that her newfound fascist-libertarian views aren't excused just because she got them from her boyfriend, just like how we wouldn't excuse Jim Carrey for being an anti-vaxxer even though it was an issue he never spoke up about before dating Jenny McCarthy.

Poppy is supposed to be a caricature of Mars Argo, who is Poppy's co-creator Titanic Sinclair's ex-girlfriend and former co-worker on another video project.
