I appreciate and understand Nintendo's very old company culture, but this recently sort of in-touch Nintendo is pretty neat.

I'm glad they're no longer going to make bullshit claims on people's videos. I wonder if this means I can turn off the monetisation they forced on one of mine.

I actually felt that was intentional.
For real. Even Nintendo is savvy enough to know what the internet will do to their commercials, they didn't upload it without music for funsies.

Fucking finally

Basically as long as you're not posting straight gameplay with no commentary, you should be good.
This is the dawn of a new era

Oh, hey, remember when Nintendo spent years and years with their greedy little hands in the cookie jar taking money that they REALLY had no right to (mostly from tiny, passionate video creators)? Well, they have finally decided to not be giant pieces of shit about the fair use of their material... because they must have discovered that it stifles the free promotion that so many other companies take advantage of. Not because they wanted to be good to you, their fans. No. They still fucking hate you. Look forward to their next inevitable bullshit move that makes you shake your head.

Still, this is a good thing. Even if Nintendo sucks for ever having implemented it in the first place.

Guess this means users can upload videos on YouTube and monetize them then. Just in time for smash.
Sounds pretty good

Tourneys may suffer.

Question 8 said:
I am planning to host a gaming tournament using Nintendo video games, and upload or livestream a video of that tournament on the applicable video and image sharing sites. Are these activities subject to the Guidelines?

A8:Uploading and livestreaming Nintendo Game Content from a Nintendo-authorized or licensed tournament is within the scope of and subject to the Guidelines. However, hosting a tournament is a separate activity that is outside the scope of the Guidelines.

So this is basically how everyone else handles YouTube videos. Good to hear, especially with Smash coming out next week.

New guideline seems sane enough.
I'm guessing this is the result of old guards moving away from decision making roles.

I'm happy about this change but I'm still upset that they monetized (not demonetized) so many of my videos this year. They made hundreds of dollars from my videos that I will never see back and that's frustrating as hell. I hope I can at least re-monetize them now.

EDIT: Myself and a lot of YouTubers I know recently noticed that Pokemon LGP/LGE and the recent Smash Direct were mostly untouched by Nintendo, so I suppose that may have been a lead-in to this.
Yeah, thats still super shitty.

We encourage you to create videos that include your creative input and commentary. Videos and images that contain mere copies of Nintendo Game Content without creative input or commentary are not permitted.
So No Commentary Walkthroughs are still 'banned'? Yay...

Someone ran the numbers and found that the money that content creators make off of monetized videos is less than the potential sales that these creators might drive, huh?

It's a great move on their part, glad to see it happen.

What Nintendo didn't seem to understand Was how great of a medium streamers could be to sell their products. Yeah they are using your IP and not paying Nintendo directly for the use, however they are indirectly giving Nintendo money by being influencers to their customers. No telling how much money Ninja has made for epic games without directly giving them one cent. Nintendo will make more money overtime by letting streamers and other influencers stream and broadcast their product for free then they would getting a cut from the uploaders themselves. Now this opens the door for thousands of other content creators to share themselves playing Nintendo games

Definitely came from out of touch NCL. I couldn't see someone with Reggie's marketing acumen co-signing the program.

I disagree with his stance, but it's not a clearly a fear thing.

I honestly forgot this was still a thing. Glad Nintendo's finally taking the right step with this kind of thing.

Especially because people had already done it with the WoL trailer two weeks before

It's a good look for Nintendo. I think they're beginning to understand certain business practices of old would only hamper the success of the Switch and any first party games going forward.
