Those comments from Reggie paint an awful picture but honestly I didn't expect anything good from the service so I can't really say I'm disappointed. Sigh.
Worth buying if you have the 3DS version already?
If you really like the game sure. 3DS version with 3D effect looks great but Outrun at 720p on the Switch screen and with all the new songs added is fantastic. They made FM synth versions of some songs from Outrun 2 and made a megamix with the three original songs that sounds incredible.

Fuck, I need this. Where can I get I buy a Japanese EShop card from? PlayAsia?

Only downgrade I've noticed in Outrun is that apparently there's no way to save replays like in 3D Outrun, that's a bummer (unless I'm missing the option somewhere).

I got one from here https://www.offgamers.com/buynow/1000yen-nintendo-eshop-prepaid-card-jp-discount-promo.html
It's seriously as amazing as it sounds. I hope someone uploads it somewhere or Sega sells an album with the new tracks because they're too good.

Thanks. Are the options menus etc in English in OutRun? Not that it would be too tricky without it.

Re: the Reggie interview. As long as they're only offering NES games and there isn't a single killer multiplayer game I cannot live without (unlikely), I won't be subbing for the service. It's a shame they're sticking to NES. I can't even understand why. I don't think most of its games aged particularly well. It's like the PS Classic. Sure you could put these games on the system, but why not put the infinitely better sequels on there? \o/

Yup, everything is in english, both the game and the menus. It's only missing the online manual because it opens the browser and redirects you to the western site right now.
Thanks dude. Off to buy EShop credit from that link you sent, and the game!
I loooooved that extra song they put in the 3DS version. So good!

Yup. Outrun is fantastic on the Switch. The medley track just sounds great and is perfect for a quick cruise in the game. Plus the difficulty settings just make things just a slightly bit easier so I can see the last stage of certain routes. Definitely recommend the game. Cannot wait for Virtua Racing to land on the Switch :)

It's sooooo good! I loved having one of my all time favourite games on 3DS, and now it's on Switch and it's glorious. New music is fantastic!

Decided not to get Mario and Rabbids but got minnit instead. Too bad SW heist was not on sale in Europe, I really would like to have that soon.

Thanks for the link! So what do I do to get the game...is the amount on that link enough?

Do I then just change to the Japanese eShop? Is this easy to do?

Thanks!

Has DLC for 1st party games ever gone on sale? Found out I'm getting Mario + Rabbids for Christmas, & might nab the season pass/DK DLC if it goes on sale beforehand.

There is a replay section in the main menu. Room for 10 replay saves and a protect option.
Oh you're right, missed it because it's in the main menu and you have to quit the game. Turns out it automatically saves all your runs and starts overwriting them after you hit 10 but you can lock your favorites. Awesome.

Do you have a Japanese EShop account? You need one of those first to access the store. Takes about 5 minutes tops. Think it's accounts.nintendo.com. Create a new account, set region to Japan, use a different email address to your main EShop account. Log into it on the Switch, done.

The game is 999y, and the card is 1000. It's an easy process, even all in Japanese. Bottom menu option on the (Japanese) eShop is redeem code, enter it. Then go and buy the game.

I started a Japanese account just to grab Phantasy Star, but the way the Sega Ages releases are dragging maybe it's going to be for all of them from now on.

Does Out Run on Switch contain the different colored versions of the car with various tuning options like the 3DS version has?

Yeah you were right, I deleted one of my games to see if the JP eShop prompted me to download it but nope, it only shows it's purchased.

Oh well, still got Outrun, no way I'm waiting.

Oh I meant how do you know that. Did you get a review copy already? Not that I'm doubting you, just want to make sure it'll be the case (it's okay if you can't talk about it tho).

I imported the JPN version and am almost about to beat it, and I tried going to the US eShop from the application. It errored out.
I wonder if the lack of VC is a means to give Indies a bigger fighting chance. If that's the reason, then I'm all for it. The competition with Nintendo titles was always fierce on their platforms.

I seriously think it would be a dumb reason if so. Wii U VC games being better than Wii U Indies wasn't really the fault of Nintendo, especially since the eShop was organized infinitely better than the Switch shop currently is. If a game didn't sell well there, then it was pretty much because it sucked or was too obscure/niche for people to take the plunge on. I'm actually surprised anything sells well on the Switch eShop with how fast old games get buried and whatnot... If VC came to the Switch eShop, nothing should change unless the indies suddenly became low quality. Doesn't stop the high quality fighters on the eShop from indies, despite the many street fighter ripoffs on ACA NeoGeo (and actual SF from Capcom) They really should just release them at the pace they did on Wii U/3DS VC in Japan, with four new games every week.

Yeah, car unlocks are in. Its a nice difficulty tweak. I've got Outrun, Kuso, Toki and SNK 40th Collection all vying for my attention at the moment... (and Outrun is winning)

they are in no rush to get to the later generations of hardware.

I bet Nintendo introduce SNES next year around the first anniversary of the service to entice subscribers to renew for another year. Start off with a small handful of games then drop one or two per month along with one or two NES games. The catch: They'll opt for a tiered membership plan where it's $20/year for just NES, and $30/year for both NES/SNES. Everyone will whine and moan and the world will continue to spin on its axis.

The real mystery is what they're planning to do with Game Boy/Color/Advance, if anything. Game Boy Classic? Bundle them in with the membership tiers? Both? Nothing?

Nothing.

Can't wait for Virtua Racing. An advert popped up on my Switch from the Japanese shop, so I assume it's not too far out.

They won't. I bet they eventually add a separate subscription service for GB, SNES, and N64 games though. NES games will stay a part of the online service.
Or they'll just keep all in one to keep people engaged. Active Users is sometimes more important than full revenue. It will be interesting to see how they tackle it.

Old Nintendo would definitely charge, but they may see the value to keeping people in the eco system and adding more as they add to the service. I'd eventually expect a price increase

Yeah, the only way they keep everything tied to the online service is if they increase the price.

Yeah, but I could see that price increase coming in the future, after they have you hooked on your Netflix like library of old games. Remember this is what Netflix themselves did. Streaming has definitely gone up in cost, and the cost to produce their own content has as well, but they got a huge base in a lower prices and slowly raised pricing. It is still fairly reasonable because the content is there. Nintendo could use that exact same model.

Add SNES, N64 maybe even Gamecube, and then right around then announce that the main plan is going to $30 a year and the Family plan to $45, or something akin to 1 - $1.50 more a month. People won't blink either, mainly because they'll have already seen the value and will be willing to keep subbed.

Sony and MS did this once PS+ games and GWG got a big enough library, prices went up $10. Whether justified or not. Granted they give a lot of sales as user engagement is still king as it leads to better revenue numbers, and after seeing the Creator's program thing, maybe Japan is letting NOA have some wiggle room, maybe.

Snagged R-Type Dimensions. First time playing this update version, but I cut my teeth playing the first game on TG16 so long ago. Really nice to revisit and hear that great music.

I guess the new 'EX' feature is for the ability to speed/slow time, which is really helpful. The 3D effect is really nice, but I found adding a retro filter to pixellate the polygons made the game look a lot more familiar. The clean default look comes across a bit cheap and the low-polys kind of distract. Just a personal opinion.

Achievements seem fun and challenging to aim for, and having a level select is great. Holds up well, but certainly feels aged considering I long for ports of R-Type Delta and Final again.

I see Don't Starve is 50% off on the Canadian store. How is that on Switch? Not that I played any other version either.

R-TYPE DIMENSIONS EX:
Mini impressions/nitpicking

Goddamn I had hoped Tozai added at least a freakin' scanline option for the classic 2D gfx besides the awful "rendering" fx options for the 3D visuals (which are nice, especially on the Crazy camera setting which is simply a 3/4 view- it's just that they're not for me).
R-Type's art is one of those cases where CRT scanlines were part of the visuals as much as its iconic color palette and had been taken in mind while drawing the pixel art to help give life to R-Type's beautiful package, it honestly looses A LOT by going "raw". I thought so when the original Dimensions released on X360 and it's still true for this EX version on Switch. I have ZERO expectations they'll patch them in.

On the gameplay side I've played the first 5 stages of RT and 4 of RT2 and they're as great as ever, perfect port so far. Great price, great games, great port. Buy it if you don't care too much about the mentioned details.

But I'm also still trying to figure out if you can use the new Slow-Down and FFW buttons of this EX version and still have your highscore counted for the leaderboards of both Classic (FFW button) and Infinity (SLOWMO+FFW) modes... because that would render this version useless to me. Fingers crossed, will def look into it tomorrow.

Well, dear Hamster bring on ACA R-TYPE/II (and Leo please?) because this one ain't doing it for me.
Too bad, dang.

They're going to have to introduce SNES at the very least because I'm not going to even bother with renewing next year if it's just NES games still. I'll just takes my chances that my Switch doesn't implode and lose all my saves.

I just want to give them money for Game Boy games on Switch. I didn't have a 3DS. I just want to play SML2: 6GC, Link's Awakening, and Kid Icarus: Of Myths and Monsters on my Switch. I'd pay ten bucks a pop for those games. Why won't Nintendo take my money already?!

I bought SteamWorld Heist Ultimate Edition on sale yesterday.

I would like to take this opportunity to say that this game is freakin' awesome.

I would also like you all to know I am hitting myself for not playing this game THREE YEARS AGO on 3DS. WTF was I thinking
yeeeah! Heist is amazing. I assume you already played Into the Breach? Make that your next TBS game when you're done if you haven't already!
