Exactly, very possible for sure. And I doubt MS is happy to have all those people hard at work for several more years on something that also releases on the system of their competitors while paying them. Who knows, maybe MS has already tried but isn't gonna happen for them.
Which makes the timing of the acquisition a little unfortunate probably, when it comes to that. But Obsidian has more teams don't they? The other is likely planning /working on the first exclusive?
Yeah but I'd say with regard to an immersive RPG, story and world building are more important than gameplayI liked it for the world and story, not the gameplay.
In fact I'd say Mass Effect has typically had pretty weak gameplay, especially 1 which was just bad.
That said I was thinking 3rd Vs 1st person. Not 3rd vs isometric. I'd rather 3rd than isometric.
this is one of the - surprisingly large number of - things i really liked about dragon age 2...Too good an idea for AAA gaming generally. Pipe dream. Everything has to be about saving the universe or some shit
Good thing most obsidian stories aren't about that.Too good an idea for AAA gaming generally. Pipe dream. Everything has to be about saving the universe or some shit
I've always wanted the Mass Effect IP to be licensed out to other studios to expand the IP into new genres. Like if DICE made a huge multiplayer game set during the First Contact War. Or if Naughty Dog made an action game where you play as a Spectre trying to take down a crime syndicate. I think the lore is deep enough it can exist in many forms.I was always a fan of the idea that Obsidian would make a mass effect 1 style RPG that took place mostly in the citadel and you worked at c-sec. Space cop drama. I would love to see that idea reborn into a new IP but maybe not for the first game. I imagine if you made a brand new space RPG and locked the player to a giant space station or a singular city on a planet you'd probably have a riot on your hands.
Most likely multiplatform, as it's still published by TakeTwo and not Microsoft.

About the scale of the project
Yeah, this would be dope. Or anything remotely similar. A space / sci-fi game that doesn't involve saving the universe and a bunch of planet-hopping.I was always a fan of the idea that Obsidian would make a mass effect 1 style RPG that took place mostly in the citadel and you worked at c-sec. As much as im enjoying pillars of eternity, it will be great to see obsidian get back into a true triple a RPG, or something outside of isometric games
Most likely, if the IP succeeds they will make a deal, otherwise they will let it die. They definitely won't have Obsidian making multiplat games, or games they can't put day one on pass.Right, but Take Two would have publishing rights to the game (and maybe even first right of refusal on sequels) so owning the IP won't let them dictate the platforms unless MS works out a deal with TT.

It would be but this take two initiative is supposed to have a limit of around 20-30 million dollars per game so it's more AA focused. It would allow them to go for more risky ideas theoretically.

Looks Like InXile has a remaster coming of an old classic! Not sure if new news tho.
Both of those can be just as easily achieved in first person though.Yeah but I'd say with regard to an immersive RPG, story and world building are more important than gameplay

The signature item of this bundle is Wasteland - 30th Anniversary Edition, a remastering of the first game that will feature updated graphics (which maintain the spirit of the original pixel art), run natively in current operating systems and at all current resolutions, and offer other quality of life features. This work is being done by Krome Studios, the team currently behind a similar remastering of The Bard's Tale Trilogy.
If Take Two is part of this, I wonder how MS will play into the final development of the game. The fact that Obsidian is part of MS does that mean the game will benefit from it being developed by Obsidian which is now part of MS? Would any MS resources be put to use during the development of this game even though MS is not going to publish it? Would love to see how things like this internally work out, even though we may never be told.
I disagree very storngly. I find first person to be very distracting and immersion breaking. Both of those can be just as easily achieved in first person though.
If anything I'd argue from an immersion perspective first person is significantly better.
Getting some real "Space Cowboy" vibes from these.
An Obsidian-made action RPG set in space with Cowboy Bebop inspiration would be my jam.
Holy shit could this be a new BioShock made by Obsidian in space?
Wait what? expect none of those projects were clean development environments and they didn't own the IP. Especially after KOTOR 2 and that negatively influenced game. Despite the cult following.I'm very hyped for this announcement.
Although I gotta say Obsidian has a bad track record with bugs in third person RPGs. I sort of prefer their crpgs in general.
Well, its in MS and Xbox interest they cultivate and nurture a talented and happy Dev team, even if the game isn't thiers, the studio creating that "value" is. Meaning that success and value can be recreated over and over if the magic remains which benefits MS long-term. This is good for MS.
While I think this is a bullshit argument, can't really say i have a problem with third person.Good to hear it's likely third person, I'm finding these days I just can't spend 50-100 hours in isometric.
I highly doubt Tim and Leo wants more cooks in the kitchen. The last thing the project needs it's a four-way tug of war with money involved.I agree with you 100%. It would be in MS's best interest to help Obsidian make this game as good as it can even if it uses talent and resources from MS and it is a multi-platform game. If the game is good and is a critical and sales success it would just be all that much better for Obsidian and MS.

Wait...i mean they madeWhile I think this is a bullshit argument, can't really say i have a problem with third person.
I'm just skeptic Obsidian can deliver it with good production value, on the other hand.
I mean, obsidian do have a well-deserved reputation for jank—and I say that with all possible affection.Wait...i mean they made
KOTOR 2
Alpha Protocol
Fallout New Vegas
So you saying that Tyranny, Pillars, Dungeons, Neverwinter Nights 2, Fallout New Vegas (Despite Bethesda engine and time allotted) and South Park didn't have good or great production value? kind of a confused notion of worry or skepticism. Given the stuff they release.
