A block from my house, I have to turn right onto a two lane highway with no light or median. Whenever I see someone waiting from the opposite side of the highway with no signal on, I just assume they want to turn left and not go straight. Most of the time I am correct.

I actually like using my turn signals because I drive a Mustang that has those cool sequential turn signals. No better feeling than flicking on my turn signal and seeing the sequential blinking reflecting off the car behind me in the mirror. Was in a turn lane yesterday at a red light and had my left signal on and behind me was a big rig with one of those huge chrome bumper guards, and I sat there the whole time watching my blinker off his bumper in my mirror. More cars should have those sequential signals imo, they look so good.

These are the same people who tailgate me to work every morning when I'm going 5mph over the speed limit. I get closer and closer to a road rage incident every week.

I can get over just fine without my blinker, it's when I use my blinker and the person other lane likes to stop me from getting ahead of them is when I have issues.

The blinker does not give you right of way, it helps warn the drivers in that lane you're interested in getting over.

Not signaling is kinda whatever. The real dumb fucks are the people who turn into the furthest lane. You are a fucking moron

This pisses me off so much.

- The people who slightly edge in and out of your lane for a little bit before deciding to switch into your lane like they're trying to keep you guessing.

- The people who flick their signal on and off as they're switching lanes. If your turn signal blinked once as you were switching lanes, you didn't indicate.

- The people who switch lanes but then decided they don't want to be in that lane and quickly switch back without warning.

- The people who are trying to turn off the road and slow down suddenly to make the turn without warning.

- The people who almost hit you in parking lots because they try to swing into parking spaces without signaling.

It's bad enough to deal with it in a car but as someone who bikes in a city, it's even worse. If I can signal my intent to turn on a bike, surely anyone can do it in a car.

It's hard to care about flipping on your turn signal when you're too busy checking email or Facebook while driving.
90% of the time someone switches a lane without signaling, if I can get up next to them, they are on their phone. It's maddening.

More often than not, people are very agreeable and let me switch lanes once I signal.

The times they don't, I pull ahead and cut in anyway.

I signal most of the time. The issue starts when you signal that your switching lanes and the guy behind you in that lane speeds up. This happens way more than you think. People assume as soon as you put your signal on to switch lanes that your gonna slow down. So they speed up to get pass you even when you start changing lanes. It usually leads to someone getting rear ended or cut off. Most cases I hesitate to move due to them speeding up.

As far as the expensiveness of the car and this idk.

In Puerto Rico, when I turn the signal on, the guy can be 100 miles behind me and he accelerates to over the speed limit just to not let me pass. Fuck those guys even more.

I only don't signal if I no one is around. No point to signal nonexistent traffic or pedestrians that I am about to lane change or turn.

Signal anyway. You never know if you missed someone or if they sneaked behind you without you noticing. This is especially true for motorbikes, which are very easy to miss. You only need to fail to notice once to cause an accident. Always signal, make it an automatism so that you won't think about it.

God, I fucking hate it. It's mostly people in expensive cars here in Germany who think they rule the road because they drive such a car (new BMW, Mercedes, Audi are the worst offenders). They're more important you know
It's not Germany, it's those cars. They're the exact same here in Canada.

You should signal regardless. It becomes a natural reflex that way.

can we stop calling them blinkers. that shit sound stupid af. signals is better

anyway yeah I almost got in an accident yesterday when I signaled to merge (and I had lots of time to notify other drivers) and at the very end of the lane the guy behind me sped up to cut me off. no joke maybe a 2 cm gap and I'd have been a collision. fuck that person.

Hey I drive an Audi, you can call me a pusher (forcing people in the left lane to move a lane to let me pass), but I sure as hell use my blinkers. If you see someone in an Audi not using his blinkers, it's just a confused BMW driver.

You know the type of drivers that are also pretty annoying (usually Opel or Renault in my experience), people driving in the slow lane, 500 meters behind a truck or something. I'm driving like 30-40 kilometers faster so if they do nothing, I'll be long past before they even need to think about touching their brakes or letting go of their gaspedal. Still, they move to the fastlane and make me drive behind them for 15 minutes while they overtake the truck in front of them with a 1 kph difference.

On top of not signaling is dangerous as fuck, it's very impolite. I'm serious, I feel personally offended when people don't signal.

That said in NJ if you put your signal on the car that you are trying to pass will speed up to fuck your plans up. So signaling is an art. You have to let other know in advance that you will be changing lanes, but not too early.

This, but also, you know those mother fuckers driving a big SUV or truck who don't signal OR break, but instead swerve into another lane out from behind someone who IS breaking?

There is absolutely NOTHING worse than going 60km and having that shit happen. It's infuriating.

If you signal and someone speeds up because they're afraid they won't win at driving, they're the prick. You let them pass and then merge after.

If you fail to signal because you might have to wait a second to get over, then you are the prick. Good job, prick.

Where are you located? In the US, I see it all of the time in Maryland, Virginia, and DC. Hell, when getting off of an exit onto the beltway, people start to speed up in order to pass you before you merge over.

I drive some of the heaviest trafficked highways on the east coast of the US and never had someone speed up to not let me over on my right. Maybe you are not leaving enough room between you and the car behind you because they would really have to rev their car up to cut you off on the right if you are passing them with. Safe amount of space.

I came to say this. People actually speed up to not let you change lanes or exit. I just make sure there's enough room and switch lanes. I've never been in accident or gotten a ticket.

Your blinker is to let other drivers around you know your intent. It is not your hall pass giving you permission to perform any maneuver you want. If you don't have time to get over because someone is in the lane and you miss your exit, that is your fault for not considering making the move sooner, not the other driver. Doesn't matter if your perception is they sped up, or even if they did.

People literally go out of their way not to let you switch (especially in rush traffic) so these guerilla tactics work just fine.

The rationalizations I'm seeing in this thread basically come down to "I'm going to drive like a dick all the time because someone might decide to be an asshole."

It's annoying as hell, and I seems to be more frequent with people driving sports cars or luxury cars.

lived in seattle for a while before returning to the DMV. i remember getting off the plane, getting picked up, and gawking at how rude drivers are around here compared to in seattle. motherfuckers just cutting each other off, not using turn signals, speeding up to prevent others from passing, and shit like that. people here are stupid savages.

I think about this every day. I drive 40 miles a day for my job and even got hit by a semi truck a few weeks back who merged without signal. So many people can't be bothered to literally just extend their fingers forward to touch the bar. It's insane.

I used to think I did this 100% of the time without failing. Then I got a car that warns me if I try to do it and realized I had been forgetting sometimes. So now I definitely do it 100% of the time.

I'll use my blinker once people stop trying to prevent me from changing lanes.

You don't own the road, you share it with everyone else also just trying to get where they're going safely. No one is out to get you or "prevent" you from doing anything. Leave your narcissistic complexes at home where they (hopefully) don't affect the lives of others.
