Both this Smino and Anderson .Paak are not
bad but I had to force myself through them. Both times, each. I want to listen to them more to better understand why I don't like them, but TBH I have zero motivation to listen to them instead of just being on to the next one or just going back to It's A Flex on repeat.
I feel like I can only take their voices in small doses. Smino's production can get unnecessarily busy under what I'm assuming is the pretense of being lush, evoking PTSD from the last time I listened to a FlyLo production. Just adding a cacophony of sounds doesn't make for a good beat, entire album
reminds me of this meme TBH. All of Chance's worst songs have this style of production too, like everything is fighting for your ear while you're trying to cruise through a trippy dreamscape. I don't feel like it's very smooth at all, but I also don't feel lik eit
Oxnard is funky which should be right up my alley, but I can't put my finger on why these songs bore me, which is why I feel like I can only take their voices in small doses. The production is pretty great throughout too, IMO, which is like 75% of the battle. The Cole feature on here is fire though, whew, giving me classic Cole vibes.
