And where exactly did I say that it wasn't worse? Because if you read my post, I literally said the exact opposite of that. I didn't call you out specifically, and I'm not going to go through your post history to find where you stand on things. My post was for the general downplaying of Sugiyama's actions that appeared in this thread, so I don't really care if you're taking it personally or not? Again, I wasn't calling you out specifically. Watsuki and his actions actively harmed children, and it's disgusting, and he shouldn't be walking free profiting like he is. Sugiyama is actively harming an entire group of disenfranchised people. His actions aren't worse than the other, but his shit views and actions are still harming thousands of people.
Pretty much, but the charges against him weren't brought until 2017 I believe? It couldn't be helped having him in older games as we weren't privy to what he did, but since the charges have been in the open for almost 2 years now, it's just baffling why he is getting the spotlight and put in the game.

Also, the game has looked like shit since Day 1, adding Kenshin to the mix just makes it even worse.
Because he's a popular character from a popular series from a country that doesn't view the crime he committed the same way we do. You can't really have a jump cross over game without including Kenshin, imagine if the creator of street fighter was outed as a pedophile would you really expect capcom to stop including Ryu/SF in cross over games?
It's also probably not much of a risk, how many people who would have actually bought this game will now protest it because of 1 ip out of 25+? The fact Japan gave the creator a slap on the wrist and had him get back to the sequel manga asap shows that there is more money to be made by having Kenshin then shunning it.
I mean I get that? But it doesn't really change things, and has been noted in the thread, it's just an odd thing to be promoting especially in the States. Just because he's a staple of Shonen Jump doesn't mean that it should just be okay that things are left the way they are.
You know why, most people truly do not care whatever awful things go into the creation of the things they enjoy. From compratively "minor" things like the impact of loot boxes on game design and feeding child gambling addictions to more severe issues like saying "can't prove they were actually sexually assaulted" when women accuse powerful men of abuse.
People will compartmentalize and justify the horrible things in the world around them to keep on enjoying their favorite things. At best you get people who'll acknowledge the horrible things these creators have done and the negative impact it's had on people, but will disconnect the art from the artist. And again this is a massive cross over game and even for people who care, if you really wanted this game 2 characters/1 ip is not gonna stop you from buying it.
It's easy for people to skip this game because it probably won't be any good. How many people do you think would cancel their smash ultimate pre order if miyamoto or sakurai was outed as a pedophile or a rapist? For the latter should Nintendo delay the game, demote sakurai, and cut/patch out the kirby and kid icarus ips from the game? That would be an even more extreme example since Sakurai is actually working on the game and is the director. For Jump Force we know Watsuki at best just signed his name saying it was okay to use his characters, and that assumes he even has the power to make that decision and it wasn't a corporate decision.
Bandai Namco really doesn't give a fuck and made a trailer.

Samurai X was one of my favorite cartoons from my childhood. I treasure great moments about me and my sister watching and recording the series on VHS (although the last season was meh).
I am the kind of person who believes that the message matters more than the messenger. Some people are as bad as talented, yet their work made by such talent should be judged by the work itself, not by the conditions or the artist who made it. Just because Stephen King writes "boo" in a napkin doesn't make that napkin a valuable piece of art; as the same time that just because the atrocities of the author who made this comic doesn't devalue its artistic values.
I am very happy to see Kenshin again in a videogame. As a game, Jump Force looks phenomenal and I can't wait to try it, including playing as the best Samurai in the world.

This is a bad argument because even if the "creator of Street Fighter" was a pedophile, they wouldn't be getting royalties from Ryu's inclusion in games. Kenshin's inclusion here is actively putting money in the pocket of a known pedophile.

While I'm not a fighting game fan and this game wasn't on my radar for purchase, I never knew about the creator of Kenshin being an abomination of a human being. I love all of the Samurai X stuff, and even really enjoyed the live-action movies.

Up until recently i had no idea. My PSN name since the launch of PS3 has to do with the anime and now it makes me sick. I used to think i could separate the artist from they did but when i try to go back and consume that content i get this pit in my stomach and i can't. I really want the game but at the same time i don't know if i can support it but i also won't condemn people for buying it and playing it.
On the subject of the actual trailer, the gameplay doesn't look that bad.

Well, his movies are pretty good. Praise the person for the good things they do, blame the person for the bad things they do.
A person is more than one moment of their lives. Think about Volkswagen, or Hugo Boss, brands and industries that have helped people with jobs and products, but came from the minds of very bad people.
Not your fault; I at least enjoyed the trailer. That art style is still doing the game no favors, though.

Here was the only place where they blame the creator and have not focused on the game itself simply because the character he created appears. But everyone is free to say whatever they want, especially now that it's time to blame everyone from a chair and keyboard.
There is justice in each country and they will know how to act even if some people like it or not.

Eh, considering that there's not even a significant backlash in our community, I don't think this will impact the final game at all since most people don't even have an idea who Watsuki is.
It's also not a decision made alone considering that it's a licensed game.

Usually separating art from the artist has more to do with a political opinion or a general tendency towards being an asshole. I don't know how anyone can make mental leaps if the artist is like a murderer or in this case a pedophile, the art is forever tainted.
