Seems just coming in now

Netflix will adapt the Roald Dahl universe of stories as a new slate of animated event series. Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Matilda, and The BFG are just a few of the titles from the author's beloved and award-winning library that will be reimagined for a new generation

Netflix will create a series of animated event series based on the books of Roald Dahl. The English author is a favorite of young readers, having created iconic characters such as Willy Wonka The BFG, and The Twits.

In an interview with Variety last month, Melissa Cobb, vice president of kids & family content at Netflix, said some of the Dahl stories will "potentially overlap."

"There will be threads that connect all of them," she said. "We want to do the animation in the style of Dahl."

"Our mission, which is purposefully lofty, is for as many children as possible around the world to experience the unique magic and positive message of Roald Dahl's stories," said Roald Dahl's widow, Felicity Dahl, in a statement. "This partnership with Netflix marks a significant move toward making that possible and is an incredibly exciting new chapter for the Roald Dahl Story Company. Roald would, I know, be thrilled."

The list of titles in the agreement between Netflix and the Roald Dahl Story Company includes "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory," "Matilda," "The BFG," "The Twits," "Charlie and the Great Glass Elevator," and "George's Marvellous Medicine." A few notable Dahl books, such as "James and the Giant Peach" and "The Fantastic Mr. Fox" were not included in the pact.

Production is set to commence on the first of the Netflix Dahl animated series in 2019.

That's cool. Too bad James and the Giant Peach isn't part of the deal, at least for this first batch.

They had no chance of touching the Anderson Fox animated movie anyways. If they truly animate this in the style of Dahl tho then these shows could be pretty cool

Well this should be fun.

If they get Matilda right, they'll get a new generation onto Dahl and that's ok in my book.

It would be cool if they were able to animate Quentin Blake's art.

Edit: Actually now I think about it, didn't some older adaptations have a similar style to Quentin Blake's illustrations?

It really is too bad that Dahl was such an awful anti-Semite that I can't ever read any of his works without constantly making sure I'm not missing problematic characterizations.

Do we know what studio they will be working with?

It would be amazing if somebody like Laika for these, as I can already picture these series in my head with that style.

So Spielberg's BFG is already forgotten? I could only make it through 30 minutes before turning it off so it wouldn't surprise me.

Is Tom and Jerry the only animated version of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory?

That's wild... looking forward to this because I think this thing deserves the charm and whimsy of animation as I'm not a fan of either live action adaption.
