In any case you shouldn't expect an E3 or even ND-like blowout but just a nice show with a couple cool Nintendo trailers, that'll probably be worth sticking through terrible Razer advertisement and awful awards winner selection.

Unless you're in Europe and will have to stand up until 5 AM to watch this.

I don't think The Game Awards are really the right venue to announce Star Fox Racing though. Maybe in January?
It is. We had this conversation a long time ago on Neogaf on what Nintendo games fit a western audience. And back then (if I can find my post) I said "Retro Studios should make a new Star Fox game. Star Fox to me fits in a handful of Nintendo titles that should cater more to that audience like Metroid."

And the Game Awards is the big time. It's about the big developers. This is about Retro Studios. They're one of the best developers in the entire video game industry. They are Nintendo's premiere game studio in the west. Their games, IMO, should be revealed at big American events like E3 or The Game Awards.

They deserve this and we should see what Star Fox is. That IP desperately needs to grow. This is a huge event with all kinds of eyes on it. Whatever Retro has come up with will probably have appeal to non Nintendo fans.

Advertisements are always the best part of VGA!

In any case, I'll be watching this while playing Smash Ultimate in portable mode, gonna be such a fun evening.

I need Jonneh to come in here and start talking about sitting in puddles because I'm getting way too excited now.
We're getting desperate when we have to shine the Jonneh otter symbol in the sky. Lol

Showing Metroid Prime 4 is E3 levels for me. It's not about the quantity, but what the quality of what is being shown. If it's just a 30 second cinematic MP4 trailer is a huge show for me.

I'll just say I really don't think there's a Direct any time soon

Because all of the great announcements for a Direct will be at the TGAs instead?

Dammit Jonneh you were supposed to reduce the hype, not make it stronger!

EDIT: "The TGAs" is "the the game awards" but I stand by my statement. What an annoying acronym though.

I see Nintendo's TGA showings could fall into one of 3 different categories

Another look at a game we have already seen
  • Fire Emblem
  • Luigi's Mansion
  • NSMBDX
  • Yoshi
  • Daemon x Machina
  • DLC for existing title
A first look at an already announced game
  • Metroid Prime 4
  • Bayonetta 3
  • Animal Crossing
Or lastly, a completely new announcement
  • Metroid Prime Trilogy
  • Star Fox GP

Not sure which category it will fall into, but I'm going to guess 1 game in the first group, and then another game in either the second or third group.

That means control the hype because no, we won't see Metroid Prime 4's release date at the TGA.

Hope we get nice trailers though.

Nobody really cares about the release date. Why would I get hyped over that? I'm hyped over seeing the game.

I don't get hyped over release dates, especially when I haven't seen a single thing on a game.

At worse I see MP4 and Star Fox GP. At best it's those two and MPT HD. MPT HD I would expect a release date. It feels like MPT and MP4 go hand in hand. You want this audience to know both are coming I would assume.

Showing NSMBUDX would be the worst possible showcase Nintendo could show, it would probably just make everyone angry.

Since 2014, Nintendo likes to bring the titles that will hype people up, I honestly think MP4+MPTHD, Bayonetta 3, and Star Fox GP has a good chance.

I think Animal Crossing will be showed off in January.

Game Awards though should be sweet (obviously don't expect a crazy lineup though, it's not a Nintendo event)

Oh c'mon, I'd never do that! I just want Nintendo to bring some games to TGA, like

Pikmin 4
Mother 4
Star Fox Racing
Donkey Kong Country Returns 3
Super Metroid Remake
Mach Rider 2
The Legend of Zelda: it's not a mobile game
Metroid Prime 4
Fire Emblem
LEGS
Ice Climbers for Android/iOS
Tokyo Mirage Sessions #Splatoon

What's LEGS?

People are expecting too much from TGA, MP4, rumored MP Trilogy and Smash Bros DLC sound already great, expecting more than will most likely lead to disappointment, TGA is not Nintendo Direct or E3.

Hmm. I do hope we get an ARMS successor. I see a lot of people thinking we won't. It sold over 2 million and that's good for a new IP in the fighting genre
launch window title for switch 2, hopefully this time with some good single player modes.
the game's foundation is super solid, the characters and the style are top notch, and it did very well for a new fighting IP, it'd be a shame if there was no sequel.

the one thing i don't see happening is smash dlc. announcing it on the day the game launches isn't the best decision, that's something you do once the hype around the base game has died down slightly.

We have people who could be hinting at Star Fox GP to be revealed at the Game Awards. From the Kind of Funny guys to LordKano.

Nintendo Overhype Heartbreak Prevention Rule 101 Paragraph A Subsection C:
They do NOT (EVER) announce release dates until it's a few months out. The exception being a rough "20XX" year as a window.

Cloud, Kinda Funny weren't hinting at it. This only looks like a hint if you ignore the whole conversation from when it was first brought up right until that final moment.

You have point, but on other hand that would be final push for game day before launch and make even bigger hype for game launch.

To be fair there were three people present in that video.
There are multiple people in that video.

And from those 3 people in time we got hint, two of them look at each other and smile, while third was watching them.
In any case, that video is only hint that we got, we dont multiple hints.

yeah maybe, it can go either way. if they want to reveal the first dlc character the awards are a good stage to do it, but i really don't think smash needs any more hype than it already has :)

Greg is the third and he's said in the past it's weird for him to do prediction videos when he knows what's coming. You can see he wasn't giving it his all with the predictions in the video.

Media members seem to have a clear handle on what's being shown. Nate has hinted at Metroid for a while now. Kinda Funny Games would know what's showing up too since they're media. Also, I said LordKano seems to be hinting at Star Fox showing up at the Game Awards in this topic.

Oh, I didn't know that LordKano also have some inside informations..

Yeah but TGA is hard core gaming event, so pushing more Smash Bros day before release on such a even can only have gains.
So I expecting some cool 3rd party character DLC annoucment for Smash at TGA.
