You're lucky to have seen the unfinished stuff. Aquaman where actors have their hair slicked down, hanging in rigs against a green/blue screen? That's the version I wish I'd get to see.
'Fun' is officially a pejorative term for cape flicks. I'm convinced most people on this forum don't want to be excited for a DC movie.
I have nothing against the word fun. It's when fun is the only word being used to describe it, that makes me apprehensive. There's enough praise for other things like story and characters whereas fun is thrown in almost every review.
Sounds like the makings of an enjoyable but flawed film.
But we have seen stuff about things other than "fun" - namely strong performances by Momoa and Heard (and Mateen as Manta), good set pieces, a good third act, an ambitious story, good direction by Wan.
Evidently they can't speak to story specifics and all and perhaps Orm falls under that.
I like Patrick Wilson in everything. Mostly expecting a shallow one-note villain, but I feel like Wilson can elevate that the way Michael Shannon did.
Seeing comparisons to Raimi's Spider-Man actually got me to sit up a bit.
As long as you nail the emotional beats, you can get as campy, fun, grim, what have you. It's the emotions that do the heavy lifting.
Once bitten twice shy, I think I'm just having flashbacks to the JL social embargo actually.
It could really all be me worrying to be honest.
To be fair, the people responsible for that are not the people in charge now.

This could be rated fresh and make bank but it'll be dismissed by the same people.
I'm honestly surprised people haven't been saying just reboot the verse yet.
