Who's running the show for this thing? It would have been a monster hit. What a fucking joke.

I'd pull back a bit if you think this thing isn't selling tons.

Unless this is sarcasm in which case:

This thing is doa.

If you're interested in PS1 games and aren't owning PSTV yet, you better act fast and buy it now. The price is rising day by day.

I was ...
Excited with PS Classic announcement with 5 initial game line up
Fine with PS Classic not including power adapter
Ok with PS Classic coming with original non-analog controllers
Disappointed with PS Classic running open-source emulator and dismal final game line up

Yet I kept the preorder. Until today.
This just cannot do. Preorder cancelled. Good job, Sony.

I'm gonna go out on a limb and sying that it's likely not going to sell as many as people think it will. Word of mouth is important for those consoles and it's not having a good one so far. It's launching next week and it doesn't look like it will.

I need to know expectations from the people thinking it will fail otherwise this is just going to be a moving goalpost situation. Will totally eat crow if it craters though.

Is this even worth keeping to resell? Genuine question, the snes mini made a 20 quid profit to cex day one.

I'm sure it will still sell lots, but man this thing is a disappointment.
-You could literally fill like 5 minis with the number of great games the system had, but instead they give us mostly crap
-Cheapening out on the controller so no dualshock
-Literally the worst versions of some games

So glad I cancelled and will just stick with my PSTV

This is a hot mess and I'm glad I was never buying it in the first place. I still have a working PS3 and Vita and can buy all the games on this list I'd want for cheaper anyway.

i doubt sony will ever officially give numbers for the system, if that's a measure of success. people will have to figure out how much it sold by doing detective work.
and i don't think sony really has high expectations for this either, or hope of doing more of this kind of hardware. they just saw nintendo making some buck with classic consoles and thought they'd do a little something for the holidays too.

I've got a PSTV but the power seems to be long gone. It being so niche there aren't any replacements online either.

Ah, well. Not like I ever used it much anyway.

Could the reason be that the HW simply isn't up to the level required for 60hz Tekken 3? On SNES Retroarch you need to fiddle with worsening the graphics in order to get 60hz Tekken 3.
Anyone know if the HW is worse/better than SNES Mini?

Terrible, PAL was a blight to us and ruined so many great games. I genuinely thought those days were over, I haven't played a 50hz game since 2006.

Last straw for me. Tried to overlook all the other issues, but to join the mob, pre-order cancelled at Best Buy. Guess its good news today for people still wanting to get in.

The replies anytime Sony mentions this on Twitter are pretty amusing. So many Pepsiman fans out there.

I'm curious if this will affect sales in the larger scheme of things. My gut says no, but I can see a situation where people play it and go "Why does this play like shit? I don't remember it being like this!"

I had that reaction to playing Sonic on Virtual Console - As an avid emulation user I had played the proper version, but I didn't understand the distinction between PAL and NTSC - but even then, as soon as I booted it up I knew something was horrifically wrong.

Can anyone explain to me why this is a problem? Do people really care about the difference between 50 fps and 60? or is it something else?

The list of games was already disappointing and I did not intend to purchase one, but seeing how hard Sony dropped the ball on this, I now fully wish this product to fail hard.

Now I'm thinking about it a little more and none of this makes sense. All of these damn games have NA versions. Why not just use those for both NA and Europe?

It's not the same as the difference between 50fps and 60fps. It means your 50hz game is running 16.7% slower than a 60hz one. Everything is running slower, from the animations to the music.

when games came out months later in the EU, they were "adapted" to 50Hz, either by slowing the game down (many games had logic tied to framerate) or skipping frames (to match the pace of 60Hz but only outputting 50Hz). Now, frame skipping was the preferable option but it was still a gamble on what method the game would be using.
Just a small qualifier here - that's only for games with fixed time-step. While it was a lot less common then - a share of software did still run at variable time-step, so 50hz would simply operate at the right internal tick - no slow-down or skipping involved.
Fighting games are generally the most problematic since some still used fixed-time step even after PS2 generation. Though during PS2 gen, most games adapted, so 50/60hz "conversion" really was just changing the time-step (+output resolution).

it's not the same as your average pc game running at 50 or 60 fps. in that case the game is running at the same speed but just fewer frames of the action are being shown in a second. for pal games, being 50 fps means the game is showing the same frames, just at a slower pace, so the game runs and feels slower.

To put it simply, PAL versions are sluggish as fuck, especially when they were lazily converted. (...Which was pretty much always, unfortunately)

This video helpfully illustrates. They weren't always this bad, but it's certainly not a cherrypicked example.

Oh yeah, and the resolution is all screwed up as well.

Not to mention that a game like Tekken 3 could absolutely be killed by a 10fps drop.
