40 minutes until the face of this thread changes... will it be hope, will it be despair, will it be indifference in the face of another setback.

The topic has gone the way you expect it to be. Someone referring to critics as fans.
It's hilarious cause we went through the same thing with Wonder Woman back on Gaf. Critics posted their reactions saying they loved it, posters dismissed them as marks who were duped by getting to see it early, then everyone was SHOCKED when it had like a 97% on RT after the embargo lifted. Nevermind that the press had basically already told us they were going to give it good reviews like two weeks before.

Confirmation bias is a hell of a drug.

Hyped to see Aquaman regardless but I'm preparing myself to see critics dump on it when it comes time to actually write their reviews and scores.

But I don't want a fun movie. I want a dark depressing Snyder movie where people fucking die.

As said earlier, the impressions don't change anything for me. Ultimately my tastes with blockbusters don't vibe with what the critics seem about. Often feels like they're happy if the movie is inoffensive and fine. Like Solo, Jumanji 2, Ant-Man and Wasp, stuff like that. But I suppose that they're mostly positive reads like it's not Robin Hood or something.

Looking forward to seeing it on the 15th, or hopefully sooner.

The comparisons to 80s action movies is interesting and kind of exciting. Rarely do modern movies put off that vibe, I'm actually getting kinda hype.

I'm just happy that as far as we know, James Wan is able to deliver what he had promised from the very beginning regarding what he wanted his Aquaman movie to be. And that's something I wish we could all look forward to with the DCEU movies onward, even if the tone and aesthetic may not be to our personal liking.

I honestly think you guys will at least enjoy it

The way you worded that makes it seem like we won't get real world parables about how humanity has doomed the ocean life. If we don't get Arthur seeing fish stuck in six pack wrappers, crude oil soaked seagulls, and polar bears watching as the ice melts around them... what's even the point.

There was a tweet that mentioned animal cruelty and ocean pollution

Maybe I got burned by JL impressions, but I'm seeing a whole lot of fun, but there's enough buts and stuff that I think it comes in around high 50s to low 70s

I don't think that'll be too much of an issue. The vibe I get is that, while flawed in parts, the movie as a whole is good enough to make up for it.

And I'll totally take low 70s.
