Its a prediction, of course i can be wrong. But the reason i say so is because of how strong the switch's hardware has been. As has been said by the experts, switch has been outperforming the PS4 all month and PS4 only had a few days of boost due to the absolutely crazy deals near BF.
I think that one week of going ballistic will be more than enough to put the PS4 ahead.

Still props to Switch for being far closer than many predicted.

What about november? Is it a toss up? I have my predictions with switch possibly taking it by a small amount

Nah I'm pretty confident PS4 will be no1 hardware for November unless Cyber Monday was huge for Switch hardware.

It's just not going to be the enormous gap we saw last year.

And next month there's largely nothing planned, so Switch's victory with that momentum is assured, especially when it didnt need a drop in price to do what they supposedly did this month. Smash is gonna bring it home

Switch outperformed PS4 all month long last November until the Sunday before BF and Sony wiped out Nintendo's lead in a single day.

im not talking about the increase in forecast, get away from that. i am talking about how much they have shipped based on their general forecast for the year. black friday was absolutely apart of that, and they underestimated how much they could sell
So you're saying they understimated how much they could sell in BF because the console sold out? I already answered that in my first reply.

well...that's a good point, but it also depends on how much sony shipped this month. And we also cant forget the critical aspect of Switch no longer having the shortages which was affecting pretty much everything last year.

i am merely saying that if they wanted to sell more, they likely could have if that was their goal and they had the foresight to ship more.

yeah, I don't think it's going to be the blowout like we saw last year. Just saying that BF week makes up the vast majority of hardware sales this month.

Sorry for the question but does Cyber Monday in the US also happen offline in stores or just online?

we cant forget cyber monday though, which according to the online retailer trends switch won handily

Well with that RDR2 bundle selling out in minutes of it going live at 12am. It's going to be tough to sell a $300 console verses $199 with one of the hottest fall games. The fact more people are doing the gamestop Cyber monday deal with the giftcard, and $25 Estore voucher shows how much stock they still have and got for the holiday season. Pokemon is helping them sell a lot of those for sure. But until Smash comes out I feel November is Sony's month.

Unless Sony fell short in what they wanted to ship.

They could have sold more if they wanted, they could have made all PS4 SKUs $199 if all they cared about is to sell as much as they can but that's not the case obviously.

Yeah so far I'm seeing more Switch deals for Cyber Monday than PS4 but I could easily be missing some. Cyber Monday was counted for December of last year's NPD IIRC so is it possible that could skew December sales down a bit (relatively speaking) this year, or was it just a relatively small chunk of last year's December sales?

That's certainly what I was implying though I don't know where PSVR falls in all of this. Accessories? Separate from console sales? I doubt it'd be the thing that pushes it over the line if sales really are that close, but I've no idea.

I'd imagine PSVR is tracked separately from PS4 hardware, unless it's a bundle with both.

Given the performance I've seen it have in November yeah December is locked for Switch and probably by a pretty huge margin unless Sony plan on running another $199 deal the week before Christmas
I expect something the week before Xmas for the PS4 Slim (Xbox 1S both before and after, like last year), but either $249 or $199, depending how hungry Sony will be for sales.

Christmas, Pokemon and Smash Bros. It would be a surprise on a Brexit-level if Nintendo didn't take this December.

On a personal note, the last time I was this excited for a Nintendo release was Brawl on Wii, and RE 4 on GC as a timed-exclusive (though we didn't know that back then). I cannot wait for next week.

I'm curious about cyber Monday as well, but I don't remember such good Switch deals so not sure how useful knowing how it did last year is.

As to PSVR, it has its own games, that's why I'm unclear how it's tracked. How were things like the Sega CD tracked?

its also strange to me how Xbox could be flat when the X came out last year...did the userbase who was buying the X just eat the S users? Its like the exact opposite of the Pro and base PS4

Hey Benji and ZhugeEX I've been wondering something for a while now.

Has there been any sort or correlation between games in a yearly (or close) franchise, where blowing up in anticipation and sales, then the next iteration not being as popular due to exhaustion? An example being Battlefield 1 --> BF5 or AC Unity --> Syndicate.
Then after a couple years from the popular game, another big game builds up anticipation again after a few years or so after the series went more low key. AC Syndicate --> AC Origins or Battlefield Hardline --> BF1 as examples.

Is there any correlation or pattern with these up and down curves? Where big sales lead to a cooldown era for the franchise, then after a break of recovery people get excited again, leading to another big entry? Or is it just conjecture or coincidence with some series due to circumstances? Thanks.

PSVR hardware is tracked as part of our VR reporting within our Tech group. However, PSVR spend is included within reported spend under the Accessories and Gamecards bucket within the monthly media release. And were the sales ever notable/meaningful to the story of a month, I would note that performance as part of accessories spend.

Games for PSVR are reported with all the other gaming software, no differences.

Thanks! It's what I assumed, but I hope you understand my confusion since it's the price of new hardware and has its own software.

But all consoles did well, i reckon?

They are all going to sell a lot. Whether or not some of them are down YoY is a possibility depending on the outcome of CM.

Switch will be by far the most impressive in terms of performance this year in comparison to last year

Software is messier than hardware this Nov as well. COD shifting from Nov to Oct is going to wreak havoc with the comps. Even with a massive Pokemon launch (if it is so) it's a huge ask to try to comp to a COD launch month without a new COD.

According to adobe analytics Pokemon and God of War were among the top 5 selling products on Black Friday and the Switch was the best selling product on thanksgiving.
Nintendo Switch and RDR2 also placed in the top 5 the day after black friday.

Not sure how accurate Adobe Analytics is but it's at least worth noting (or is it? :P)

It wasn't accurate at all last year. They seem to sample online sales while the vast majority of Black Friday sales still happen in store. So their data is very skewed.

Will the Pokemon + Pokeball bundles count fully towards the software total revenue wise? And what about Mario Party + Joycons? I think that might help a tiny bit when it comes to comparing revenue vs last November.
