This means that, out of the list of 20 provided in this article: https://blog.us.playstation.com/2018/11/26/playstation-classic-the-miniature-ultimate-faq/
  • Battle Arena Toshinden*
  • Cool Boarders 2
  • Destruction Derby*
  • Grand Theft Auto*
  • Jumping Flash!*
  • Oddworld: Abe's Oddysee*
  • Resident Evil Director's Cut*
  • Tekken 3*
  • Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six*
They're all running at 50hz so lower than the speed intended and therefore not the experience you remember unless you were an European player, and a far inferior experience compared to what you'd play on an emulator with a NTSC iso.

Felt like this was important enough news to make a thread about it, since people here probably preordered it in part to play those games.

Why on Earth would they do this?

Also, will it be simple enough to just "replace" the ISO files with NTSC versions, similar to how the NES/SNES mini worked? I can only assume so, but everything about this release is baffling to me.

This product has so many issues, but this goes far beyond every other one of them. This is absolutely baffling and it's completely insane to me that SIE allowed this to happen.

This thing will probably be hacked very fast since it's an open-source emulator and has normal USB ports, and unless they're encrypted (which I doubt considering how rushed this thing seems to be), you'll probably be able to easily replace them yes. Or even change the games.

Wait, so if they're running at 50Hz, do most TVs dial their refresh rates back automatically a bit, or something, based on the reported display configuration, or is everyone going to be playing 50Hz games on 60Hz displays?

I figured as much, but given how botched this product seems to be, I half-expected some sort of strange encryption or something.

Well, there goes any interest I might have had in the thing. A shame, as I wanted one, but not with inferior games.

As I said in the other thread, are we just assuming it's going to run at 50Hz despite emulation being able to run PAL versions at 60Hz? It's trivial to run them at 60Hz.

The reason for using PAL over NTSC could be a matter of content being absent/different from the NTSC release, though I haven't looked into these particular games.

LordKano umm you forgot to mention that emulation means this is a non issue.
and in fact we already had a thread where most of the discussion was centered around this point anyway so no point ni making this thread anyways.

He's talking about the American unit... I thought it was just the European units that had PAL versions

Welcome to what we had in the 90's, America. It sucks.

Thanks Sony, I'll just stick with emulating my original copies. Would have loved to have this sitting under the TV though. :(

Did Sony let AtGames take care of this product or something?
It sounds more and more awful by the day.

This literally feels like they're making fun of us.
After putting up with this atrocity for all those years, actually putting them in a rerelease is just... I have no words.
Fuck off with this piece of junk sony.

Tekken 3 was far from unplayable. I remember spending a lot of time with that game, not knowing what I was missing with the NTSC version.

I can't wait to read impressions of people playing PAL Resident Evil for the first time.
I'd get some popcorn ready, but at this point I don't know who's going to buy this disaster of a product anymore.

Welp, I'll have to replace the ISO they put in for my North American copy.

Let that sink in, how stupid this is.

How do you fuck this thing up?

Why even bother with the project if you're not going to treat the platform with reverence?

Some people probably don't go in that thread and this is obviously a point of concern for some people.

It also shouldn't be up the the customer to go out of their way to fix a problem that Sony really shouldn't of had a problem avoiding.

Why?

WHY?

Is this about language support? Totally worth it by nuking the quality of the entire game!
