Wait, it's already leaked and playable pirated?

Ouch, the game is out in like 2 weeks. How did this happen?

While I am a person who paid my share for the game, I have the opportunity to be spoiled by pirates, and have an inferior experience because of them. They get to experience the game first, they get to experience free, and they get to spoil it. So really, that is the problem moreso than piracy. And really. This has brought out the worst in the internet.

Just avoid the spoilers then. It's not that hard and there isn't much to avoid.

This is far from the worst the internet is capable of. This is so benign and meaningless I'm surprised how angry people are getting over it.

I mean that sometimes works but when a game/movie etc is popular you can just stumble upon a random comment somewhere on the Internet that spoils stuff. I remember this happened a lot with Star Wars movies.

As mentioned earlier in the thread this would make sense for story heavy stuff but this is Smash Bros.

What's to spoil? A new color combination for Link?

There's a thread for spoilers and I haven't clicked on it, thus I haven't been spoiled. Haven't seen a single unmarked spoiler and I'm on here constantly.
Even if I were, it's freakin smash bros. The fun is the gameplay, not the tiny hintings at a story.

What ramifications? I never played any smash single player, is the story so intricate that getting spoiled ruins the game (like in Persona et al)? People are getting gunned down left and right, pollution is out of control, the climate is changing, Russia and Ukraine are in a standoff. These are things with ramifications worth getting upset about, not a single leaked game. Just stay away from spoilery thread and videos and you'll be fine in the future. It worked for every game in my backlog so far that I was afraid of being spoiled.

Eh I'm sure people will get in trouble for this.

Don't get too caught up with spoiler. Avoid it if you can. And if you can't try not to let it get to you. I primarily play retro games and don't worry too much about these things no more. Still enjoy these games. Haha

Standard spoiler avoidance practice is advised. Same with any leak.

Describing this particular leak as having "truly brought out the worst in the internet, and the worst of even people here" might be a bit of an overreaction.

This shit is so lame.

I can't stand leak/data mining culture. Respect who made the fucking game and don't go snooping through their fucking files they don't want you to see.

This race to 15 mins of E fame by being the first to leak this, hear this, play this, etc.

Just wait for the fucking game to release like everybody else.

It's not as lame as spoilerphobes crying foul.

Obviously piracy is not something to be considered or celebrated, but I'm all for the data mining aspect. The more information people have about a game the better. Knowing the full Dragon Ball Fighterz dlc roster helped me make a decision about the season pass. I long for the day that this industry quits acting like these secrets are all that special.

I mean this 100% earnestly and without malice: if the possibility of spoilers for a video game makes using the internet exhausting and crippling, it's time to take a break for your own mental health.

I've found it pretty easy to avoid spoilers so far.
It absolutely is a shame that a pirated copy got out so early. I was enjoying the data-mining of great music, but it's a shame that it spiraled into the current situation.

I'm confused. I guess I don't follow smash very closely, but I do have a bunch of people I follow that post about it occasionally, and I have yet to see anything leaked or been spoiled on anything. I'm also a tad confused as to how you are getting spoiled on a party fighting game.

Piracy will always be around as long as a console has any form of hacking available on it. It sucks. But it's just what comes with media in any format.

okay so i didn't follow but what is so big that is causing this reaction?! this is a really serious reaction for spoilers for a party game.
like back when GoW, a very story focused game that huge chunks of its content was hidden on purpose, was spoiled with youtube videos and tons of images of very important scenes in the game, and yet the reaction wasn't nearly as bad as what is going on now; so i am just surprised from this.

Don't know why Smash fans off all things are freaking out with this, not even with Zelda or Mario (games where spoilers are more relevant) I saw this kind of outrage
They weren't leaked like this. In fact, there wasn't a widespread way to pirate the games at the time of their release.

But even recently, there hasn't been anything this early. Even Pokemon was leaked just a few days before release IIRC.

I'm not sure I'd call a couple of music and boss spoilers people have to actively search for and a group of people who were either not going to get the game in the first place or are still going to buy it is disgusting, but whatever.

I'm no fan of piracy but this isn't nearly the big issue I think you're making it out to be.

Piracy is trash, but I'm not sweating spoilers. It has been absurdly easy to avoid spoilers here and even on reddit...though I'm not sure what even qualifies as an actual spoiler in a game like Smash. I managed to stay entirely dark on Red Dead, God of War, Horizon, etc. There are just certain pages you don't visit and certain posts you don't read.

But really though, the piracy part is garbage. The game comes out in under two weeks and these fuckers could have all waited. Anything for a few peeps at their YouTube pages though, right? They'll be able to quit their day jobs some day.

I haven't been spoiled on anything. Just don't look for spoilers. The game's less than a couple of weeks away.

I've never found spoilers hard to avoid personally. Though I stay off social media for the most part and don't regularly watch Youtube or anything. Piracy always sucks, but not a lot that they can do. Bump up the release date I guess so people have less temptation to pirate it vs. waiting on their preorders. But that's probably not possible as I imagine many stores don't have their stock yet.

I have always complained about spoilers but most people dismiss it, here in the forum and many other places.
Smash is not special so spoilers will keep happening, that's just how it works.

It is just one more of all of the other games that are leaked every year. I get that we can't contain the internet, but it's just sad that I have to basically avoid Facebook, disable Twitch chat, and be super careful on Youtube when a release date approaches.
I get that people want to know everything asap but please, try to avoid putting the actual spoiler on the title or thumbnail of a video. Those are the worst.
If you are in a live chat session watching a stream. Just be kind to others and don't spoil an importan part of a game for everyone.

It sucks to get spoiled but frankly, your reaction seems a little bit intense. Piracy really doesn't come close to what I'd consider a "horrible" crime. And other than the story spoilers, I don't regard the rest of the leaks as too big a deal either if I'm being honest. I never heard of getting a soundtrack spoiled although I suppose I know what you mean.

I'm a little surprised at how brazenly people are talking about pirating a game in that thread. Honestly I don't really care that much, but my understanding was that even admitting to piracy here was ban-worthy.

I realize the game has some sort of story and cutscenes, but why do people care about leaks in a multiplayer party game?

I feel sad for Sakurai and his team. We know that he likes things to say hidden until people can play for themselves, this just shows why Subspace Emissary will never happen again.

but I think that calling for leakers to go to prison is one of the most hyperbolic things I have read in Era, short of the "Samurai Jack Season 5 is the biggest dissapointment in my life".

This is why i dont get the allowance of hacking consoles to be discussed here.
No one is hacking their Switch for anything other than pirating games.
Same for any other modern console.

Because there are a million legit reasons to want to hack a console.

How do someone get spoiled with the soundtrack?
Don't you have to click in the video to listen to it? Just don't click on it.

I can see for a game where the song title spoils an event or boss, but most of Smash's music is reused.

Wait, it's already leaked and playable pirated?

Ouch, the game is out in like 2 weeks. How did this happen?

I imagine someone got a copy early and dumped the ROM online.
