Kinda hope the PS classic bombs. More excuse for them to put ps1 classics on the PSN store instead.

Also who gives a shit? It's just a dumb mini gimmick console like the Nintendo ones.

So Nintendo seems to be pretty aggressive for Cyber Monday. That $35 eshop credit deal is at multiple retailers, not just Gamestop. And then that $179 deal on Facebook Marketplace is unreal but probably extremely limited in stock.

So many things omg! and all of them because of Benji, thanks man <3

  • PS4 limited stock is indeed kinda sad, would be epic to see what the true sales potential is. And yes 2 million would be easy. If Sony is happy with that, then good for them. Profit matter more than units for sure.
  • Switch will be very interesting to see. It looks like Pokemon LG sold better than XY outside of Japan, so i think USA may have a similar opening (~1.7 million) who know. Also yeah no way Switch does less than 2 million in December. Like, Way more than that.

Right, so it's just Sony and Nintendo 'fanboys' that are bothering you today?

To be honest, I'm not sure what you're seeing here to create such disappointment with Era, but hey.

Just imaginary Sony fans then. What a weird take. Anybody giving Benji and Mat shit for system wars reasons will get themselves kicked, just as it should be.
All fans do it...Don't single anyone out, console of choice praise is a damn disease here.

That aside...people spending dat money during he holidays this year, good year for gaming.

Wouldn't you say it's better to use the PS4's popularity to rapidly get as many people as possible into the PS ecosystem before PS5?

Sacrificing short-term profits for greater long-term gain right?

They're going to have a 100m+ console, even if they coasted until the launch of ps5, they're already going to have a huge ps ecosystem by then.

'cause it's a big part of the current console ecosystem. Sometimes those mini consoles sell even more than the full fledged consoles.
I don't think Sony is betting as big on this as you may be implying. Worse comes to worse they probably made like 3 or 4 million of these. I am sure the margins are high considering it is $100 so they should be fine.

Never said that they bet anything on it, just that if it fails it's a missed opportunity of a certain importance.

That I can agree with. I am sure licensing rights played a huge part in the lineup not being great so on one hand I feel like they did what they could without paying a lot of money to third party publishers for certain games to be in it.

This was poised to do greater gangbusters than any other classics so far.

Really sad if the execution has lessened it's sales potential. Still think it's gonna sell pretty damn well, maybe the biggest classic regardless.

I just don't see it. Compared to the NES the PS1 nostalgia isn't there and that gen of 3D games has aged terribly.

Last quarterly results showed Sony was reducing promotional costs going forward which people assumed meant no $199 PS4 when in reality PS4 costs probably dropped enough to offer the $199 in quantities similar to last year.

Man, the fan reception to the Playstation Classic is harsh as fuck. The replies to that tweet are really showing that. Do we expect it to actually sold well, in a comparable ballpark to NES and SNES Mini ?

It will sell well and make lots of money. It doesn't have to do as well as other consoles.

i uh dont understand the relation to my post, unless you just misquoted

I'd say that if the PS classic end up doing two-three millions in its entire run it'd be a good result.

As a reminder, SIE attributed the upward revision of their annual operating income forecast to the "reductions for promotional and other costs related to PS4 hardware". In that regard and assuming they are only down slightly or flat, they still shipped a shitton of 199$ PS4 all things considered.

For us it would have been more exciting to see a 2 million month even if it means less money for the next quarterly report. I mean they are going to do their best fiscal year ever anyway. But this shows once again how "winning a NPD month" is not even a talking point for the guys in charge.

Yea I was trying to quote someone else so my bad but yea I agree with your sentiment that I feel like it is a missed opportunity especially towards the end of this generation. $199 should be MSRP on the PS4 at this point

Yup. We are playing a sports game aka console warz. They are running a business. Sometimes we lose sight of that around here.

I'm not sure it's true for hardware. Software, accessories and services are more profitable than hardware, so I'm not sure it's a good idea to make profit on hardware.

I don't like the idea of selling a hardware at a loss and I don't like the idea of making profit on hardware. I think it would be better for everyone (Sony/Microsoft/Nintendo, third party publishers and consumers) if the hardware is sold at cost price, without any stock limit.

Yup.

It's gotten to the point they don't even do PR for it that much these days.

PS4 was the top selling console in October: PlayStation 4 was October's best-selling hardware platform in both units and dollars sold. PlayStation 4 hardware unit sales achieved an all-time October high for the platform, while PlayStation 4 hardware dollar sales reached its highest point for an October month since October 2014. October 2018 unit sales of PlayStation 4 reached the highest mark for any PlayStation hardware platform in an October month since the PlayStation 2 in October 2002.
Man, NOTHING stops this train. It is a console from 2013 for god sake

You'd think after the Crash trilogy sold millions, people would stop downplaying PS1 nostalgia but nope.

Poor execution or not, the PS1 Classic will do very well.
Yeah I have to agree with you. I have a ton of nostalgia for the PS1 and N64. Now I have zero desire to replay those games myself because for me they aged horribly, but the same could be said for the NES and SNES for other people. Point being that there is definitely a market for it.

I would be surprised if the PS classic is not a success.

It doesn't seem like it was done well but it feels more like an impulse purchase so I think most consumers are going to buy it without reading any reviews.

Benji Anymore insights into how Xbox performed over BF? Any particular bundle or model sell well and above another? Also, how are RDR2's legs holding up?

Has the Switch a realistic chance of being the best selling console of 2018 if it wins november?

SW is not going to win November.

Of course PS Classic will sell well. Its a limited supply nostalgia piece. Playstation brand is globally strong.

Xbox One did well but it looks like it was in a similar situation to PS4 in that it was either slightly down YoY or relatively flat.

The X share was very strong though, especially for a holiday month.

All these posts declaring with certainty one console selling more than another... man I wish I had that confidence.

Selling out =/= selling best. All depends on qty out there. Can't sell units that don't exist.

Yeah I think things between the PS4 and Switch are going to be much closer than many are expecting tbh

Yep. Selling out won't mean much if you never had a lot of stock and another item may not be sold out, but what sold of it is a greater amount that the item that sold out with a smaller stock.

Yeah I was wondering why soooo many people keep saying "PS4 is winning November 100%" given everything Benji has told us

Yeah everything I'm reading outside of this forum and everyone I've talked to it seems like it's all about the Switch. I wouldn't be shocked if it tops PS4 or comes in a very close second. I think this is going to be a breakout Christmas for the system now that Fortnite, Pokemon and Smash are all on one portable. Every kid's Christmas list is going to have this system on it.
