Xbox One and PS4 release:
Following a discussion with our distributor (who do have our best interest at heart) we have been advised that releasing the Xbox One version of Ghost of a Tale smack in the middle of the holiday's season is Not a Good Idea™. That is unless we want it to go totally unnoticed.

Even more importantly we have also been informed that the PlayStation 4 version of the game will be ready towards the beginning of the year, for a potential release in February!

So the decision was straight-forward: We will do a simultaneous console release of Ghost of a Tale on Xbox One and PS4 in February.

This way we'll stand a much better chance at getting noticed by the specialized websites, which at this point is exactly what the game needs.

Maybe moving to February wasn't the best move if the plan was avoiding the holiday rush. Still, interested in this game, will pick it up.

Oh, and for anyone wondering about Switch this is the last we heard on a possible port (in October).

Finally regarding a potential port of Ghost of a Tale to the Nintendo Switch (since we get quite a few requests about that), let's just say that my stance has slightly changed from "I'm not sure that's even possible" to "we might look into it in the future".

At least in February they won't have to contend with press going on holidays and GOTY articles buring the game.

So, this is fully out on PC right? Anyone around here tried It?

Ohhhh yeah. How is the game? I'll keep an eye out on PC...

Some impressions from the OT...

Picked up during Steam sale. Damn this game is good. The stealth mechanics are serviceable, but man oh man, the world building, the level design, the writing, and the visuals are all incredible. There does seem to be a lot of checklisting quests, but when the writing is this good, the tasks don't feel pointless.

I really hope the console releases help this game get the attention it deserves.

Okay, about an hour from the ending I realized that the main quest was, in fact, identified in the quests menu.

That said--what a game. The mechanics are old-school, the fetchiness of it all sort of wears thin, and there are plenty of visual hitches to remind you that you're playing an indie title...but wow. The narrative is beautiful. The dialogue is a joy. The world feels expansive, even though we only get to experience it on this fortified islet.

It's old school design with a modern narrative. Similar to games like Grim Fandango, you'll find yourself pushing forward to drink in new morsels about this world and its cast of characters.

The dialogues in this game genuinely impressed me.
They aren't even that abundant and yet I rarely found myself so quickly charmed by a bunch of characters in the game.
They all sound believable (with the limits of the setting, of course) and at the same time interesting and funny.

I remember thinking about picking this up some time ago, looked pretty neat. Might get it on Xbox.

Without beating around the bush: it's a flawed game and you can feel it lacks in... something.
The size and scope suffer obviously from budget restrains and as an action adventure/exploration game is a bit rough around the edges.

That said, it has charm in heaps, adorable characters, solid writing and gorgeous aesthetic and as a first effort from this developer (a former Warner Bros animator, if I remember right, doing most of the art and coding) is honestly impressive.
I surely hope he will get the chance to keep working in this industry, despise the game being sadly overlooked by most (major media outlets included).

Um, February next year might not be the best time to release this either :-/

It would be cool if he/they could unlock the full version of the Xbox One game early (since it sounds like it's pretty much finished) for people who bought it in Preview, then officially launch it next year, but I can wait a little longer. I definitely won't have any time to play it in February, though.

Great to hear the official release is coming. It's been on my radar for so long, and I enjoy the beta or whatever it's called on my X1.

It has been quite the passion project. Excited to support and experience it!

Finally, I played the game at Gamescom 2014 and met the dev there, feels like it took forever.

That's when I'll buy it then. And their distributor definitely knows what's up, albeit I'm not sure it will help all that much...

Glad to see we're getting closer to a console release.

Lionel Gallat is extremely talented, and this game deserves way more attention.

Fantastic news, been waiting on this news for a long long time now.

I asked the developer if he can tell me if we can expect it to be enhanced for X. I'm kinda doubting it, otherwise you'd think he would have mentioned it.

I recall them saying it wont be at launch, not sure now though. A shame really, I'm not going to buy a new game that doesn't even support my system.
