I get that, but what happens if someone chooses me to play with? Or do both of us have to be in the Online part of the menu when my friend chooses me to play with? I don't get it since I don't have the game yet :/

The question doesn't make sense, you see your friend playing and you join, regardless of location. Unless she doesn't have friended him through friend code, that would be the tricky part :P
I know everyone is having fun, but if Ariana posting about playing online with switch drives even a few thousand of her fans to buy a console, it's a win for Nintendo, hell, even Ariana just mentioning it is a win

you both have to be in the online lobby and find each other there. it's not very complicated, once you get the game you'll figure it out. there's just no system-level invites, so you have to arrange it via text or whatever, but once both people are online and in-game, it's easy to start playing.

Yeah ,but that sounds like an obvious ad, it would be better ad if you make a celebrity acting as they genuinely play it without the cheesy lines above.
iirc, if you're doing paid advertisement on instagram you have to make it obvious and mark the post/story as a paid sponsorship.
It was an exaggeration, but Nintendo isn't dumb enough to make an ad where the person can't figure the thing out. That's like an anti-ad
Cool to see games getting majorly mainstream. Previously, I'm sure a lot of celebs got told that talking about it/admitting it would be looked down upon. Since it's bigger and more socially acceptable(As in not a geek thing), everyone can say they're playing them.

Which is why I'm a bit suspicious of this post. Nintendo Online literally just came out of nowhere, if you don't follow them, which is realistically possible for her but she is also friends with celebrities who also game so she should know already or more importantly didn't need to know from her fans.
I'm also suspicious because there is noteworthy trend of celebrities using social media without disclosing they've been contracted to promote a product by a company and considering she should be knowledgeable enough or already be in contact with knowledgeable people this is potentially one of those marketing stunts.
I'm not giving you flak for living under a rock regarding pop culture, but you know how google works, don't you?

I don't get it. Why would someone managing to play online invalidate legitimate criticisms about a online service ? What a weird fanboyish thing to say. Imagine being that defensive.
I fundamentally disagree with the trend to charge for online services when it comes to multiplayer, however who gets to define what is and is not a legitimate criticism? If most people don't view it as a problem is it really a problem?
