Green Bay is what happens when you hire the hot offensive coordinator to be your head coach and then let him stick around too long. He's not recapturing that magic. It's time to go.

He wasn't even the hot offensive coordinator. He says hired after one year as SF's OC. That was back in 2005, where he was the OC during Alex Smith's awful rookie season. SF was the 30th ranked offense and dead last in yards gained

I had no fucking clue what GB saw in him after that season, much less how he stuck around for 13 seasons.

We will dedicate the game to McNair tomorrow then probably lose. That the sort of stuff that seems to happen to the Texans :(

Rodgers has played terrible most of the year, and deserves part of the blame for the Packer's woes, But let's get a new coach in here before we declare him washed up.

I agree with the specific example (the game has passed mccarthy by), but I question the general thesis. Would you say the same for Sean Payton? He and mccarthy were basically the same guy in 2006 when these hires were happening

For everyone that is calling for McCarthy's head, who would you hire that would be better and is available?
I'm generally sympathetic to the "if we fire the guy we might hire someone worse" reasoning, but not in this case. Hiring a qualified candidate who is simultaneously also a worse hc than 2018 mccarthy would be a remarkable achievement.

First time ever, Eagles/Giants rivalry even at 86-86-2, the dummy coach had a chance today to keep the Giants in front and blew it, 4 carries for Barkley in the second half, 4...Nice hire John Mara...

I think regardless of who they pick at the next coach, moving on from McCarthy is the right move. He isnt part of the solution

I'm not saying they're all going to suck, I'm saying you need to know when to cut bait. Payton, and Andy Reid for example, morphed into actual head coaches. If you can't adapt and keep running out the same shit, then you're destined for mediocrity. That's why you need to see if McVay, Pederson, et al can get it done over the long haul before you can say they're great head coaches.

The Texans totally didn't come out flat in the first home game after Harvey. They totally didn't get the brakes beat off of them. Nope. Never happened.

That's fair -- but I also think that's probably true for the defensive minded coaches as well. It's a sink or swim league.

I guess I do see what you're saying, though. An offensive coach has a higher chance of coming in and wowing early, then turning out to be fool's gold
