Can anyone who's currently playing this tell me if the environments of this one are more like 1 or 2?

DS1 felt more like you were wandering around a ruined earth, fighting on skyscrapers, on churches, sewers, office areas etc... Whereas 2 felt more like a traditional fantasy game (ice towers, rolling hills and stone temples.)

I really liked the style of 1 more, gave me the out of place which ramps up the creep factor vibe that I got from the first Half Life.

Way more Darksiders 1 like environments, way less traditional fantasy setting. The difference is that in Darksiders 1 locations were more like dungeons, in Darksiders 3 it's more open world, interconnected thanks to the abilities you will unlock during progression.

If you buy the game on Steam, you can always refund it doesn't play nicely with Proton. Also, keep in mind that time played in Offline Mode doesn't count against the two-hour playtime window on refunds, so you can use it tinker and save the two hours for the campaign.
I did not know offline doesnt add to the 2 hour window. I may give that a try, thank you!

I think it's a miracle this is happening so I will get it. But if I do not like it, I'm out. I did not like DS2 at all.

Id love to see this franchise grow over the next few years. Another game with Death as the protagonist is the dream, in my book Darksiders 2 is one of the most underrated games of last gen and too many players seemed to give up on it before the game opened up.

More than anything I cant wait to see what they will do after the 4 horsemens games are finished. Fingers crossed that this sells well enough to warrant the next game with Strife.

Cannot wait for Tuesday, huge fan of the series, ready to jump into the third one, hopefully it sells enough to guarantee a DS4 with Strife.

Excited for this, it's been so long since we've last been in the Darksiders universe. Anything said about Pro/X enhancements?

That's very true, but that's on the game's pretty weak first half. It is not after you get to the kingdom of the dead that things started getting interesting, especially if you just do the main quest. The second half is pretty cool, though. The puzzles get more creative, and the boss fight get better and more exciting.

The game needed a better pacing.

So I picked up the thq classic deal on steam. Are the first two story wise very good as in a classic narrative style not in a blood borne "meta" narrative bs

I just finished the game, here are my overall, spoiler free impressions.

The play time on my save file is 11hours 32minutes.

I played on Balanced (normal difficulty)

The combat is surprisingly deep and varied as you progress. Don't treat it like Darksiders 1 or 2 though, it's much more like Dark Souls where dodges are your best friend and you should hang back and wait for openings so you're not overwhelmed with enemies.

The story is what I wanted but didn't think we would get. While it's abother prequel to 1, it does an amazing job of fleshing out things and adding more meaning to those from the first two games. Hearing about the other Horsemen is great too, we get glimpses into what could be next and it has me hoping even more that this game does well enough for a fourth in the series.

From a technical point of view this is probably the worst game I've played this year. The games frame rate is all over the place, long load times and hitches when going between areas. Characters teleport around cutscenes, disapear entirely and the game unloads areas before the black loading screen appears - all making for a shoddy technical appearances of the game. Hopefully many if not all of these issues can be illeviated by patches.

Graphically this game continues the art style established in the first two games but ups that even more as it's the first Darksiders built from the ground up for this generation. Some areas are gorgeous and the world is varied and surprisingly fun to explore. The Metroidvania aspects allow the entire world to be open but only accessible after certain bosses are beaten. This reminds me a lot of Dark Souls 1 with this interconnected world that can't be fully explored until later or Super Metroid where you are doors with different colours around them and can't open them until you have a specific weapon or upgrade. I was happy to see that the entire game isn't just 'Earth Ruins' and actually does and goes to some unexpected locales.

Overall, this is an excellent game for fans of the franchise and those wanting a fun hack and slash adventure game with deep exploration and a varied world. Be mindful though as going in expecting a hack and slash akin to Darksiders 1 is the wrong approach, it may feel like that when you begin but the combat is deep and tactical on the higher difficulties and certain areas can throw numerous tricky enemies at you which will give you a challenge even on the lowest of difficulties.

I'm excited to see if critics enjoyed this game as much as me. I also hope it's technical short comings don't pull review scores down too low - but in a year with power house technical performances in the AAA space this game could have done with a little more polish in that department to stand up against them. If you have any questions I'm happy to answer, spoilers will be double tagged so that even if you click on a spoiler box you'll have to press a second to see them - just so no one accidentally sees spoilers in here.

11 and 30 mins, this is the shortest of the 3 games. DS1 took around 15 hours and DS2 around 25 if I remember correctly.

Is the balanced difficulty challenging? Is the next one too hard you think?

Since you're finished, allow me to ask you some questions I have on my mind, they're a bit spoilery, so they're tagged, thank you.

Without a number, are you satisfied with the numbers of bosses besides the 7 Deadly Sins?

In the last trailer, I noticed an "underwater" area and a sky area, without saying what they are, are there other "out there" areas that aren't just earth ruins/magma zones?

The hints you're talking about, are they related to Strife in the 4th (hopefully) eventual game?

Are there any "epic" moments throughout the game? As in, well done boss fights or great cutscenes for fans of the series?

I just ask you that you try to be the less spoilery you can, as this is as far as I can go with spoilers haha, thanks!

To be fair, it depends on how he/she played the game, I've heard there are optional areas/bosses and secret zones, so if you want to 100% it, I imagine it's a bit more.

Thanks for your impressions. For what I've watched in some streams, the areas are mostly indoors and lots of Darksiders 1 dungeon styles return (train stations, desert areas, flooded cities...), but you said there's more to it, which was my main concern with the game.

Balanced at times was challenging just because of the vast amounts of enemies that throw at you sometimes. The game is easy when it's 1 or 2 vs you but when they're 7 enemies all swinging at you, things get crazy.

Since you're finished, allow me to ask you some questions I have on my mind, they're a bit spoilery, so they're tagged, thank you.

The side bosses pose a challenge that's for sure, I enjoyed their fights.

There are other areas, some vast, some very small but the world is varied I'll say that. You'll see a lot of different places on your journey even though it only takes place on Earth.

The hints are to do with the fourth horsemen, yes.
Strife actually appears in this game.

I'd say ever my single cutscene was a fans dream, one inperticular after find Lust had my fan boy brain going crazy. I loved it.

Thank you JaseC for the OT, good job; and thank you iFirez for your review/impressions. I am looking forward to playing it.

There are more locales for sure. It surprised me. The areas you described make up the first part of the game with the desert being the last big area you visit. However, there are even varied areas within these environements which mixes things up even more.

Do you feel you 100%-ed the game to the best of your knowledge (found all secrets, collectibles, optional areas)? That's honestly not a bad playthrough time for normal difficultly and I'm sure Apocalyptic (which I'll be starting on) will add even more playtime from getting my ass kicked eveywhere :-)

I know the whole "everything is Dark Souls" is a bit of a meme, but I must admit that I'm very interested in a Darksiders game with a Dark Souls-inspired design.

Thanks very much for your impressions. Aside from technical problems, sounds pretty great, especially the stuff about the cutscenes/story.

I just have one question, regarding the horse.
Do you eventually get the horse in gameplay? I read a spoiler that would suggest you don't, hoping that's not the case.

I definitely haven't found everything. I have found a large amount of side content and faught many optional bosses so there's that. I imagine if I went back and re-explored some areas I'd add another hour or two onto that time. I also imagine a quick run though (not speed run) could be done in 9-10 hours, skipping cutscenes and such.

Thanks very much for your impressions. Aside from technical problems, sounds pretty great. The stuff about the cutscenes/story especially.

I just have one question, regarding the horse.
Do you eventually get the horse in gameplay? I read a spoiler that would suggest you don't, hoping that's not the case.
Unfortunately, the spoiler you read is true. You don't get your horse ever because "story reasons" but you may have already seen the spoiler of what those reasons are.
No more environment spoilers, please
My bad, I don't think I've spoiled anything but my apologies if I have. I was only responding to those openly as they stated the environments were all visible in trailers. I'll keep any future talk like that buried within spoiler tags.

Wow, really? So wait what about the big open areas? You don't actually ride a horse? That's dissapointing if true.

No problem, man, I'm just trying to go in with a sense of discovery. I can bail on the thread if I need to. Honestly, the post you were resonding to was technically the one with spoilers, but I'm probably overly cautious about seeing anything.

They should just patch the technical issues, that shouldn't be hard. Sounds like that's the only negative thing about the game, everything else sounds pretty good

Well, the areas aren't as big as you're thinking. No where required a horse to traverse. Plus clicking in the left stick gives you a sprint mode which is surprisingly fast as it picks up speed... that plus the dash being used to speed things up is all you need. Your base movement speed is pretty quick too. While it does kinda suck there's is no horse gameplay like in 1 and 2, the way they've made this game works perfectly well without it. I mean you see the horse a few times... so there's that.
