4 new movies this weekend, and once again Hallmark is running them against each other on their two channels.

Laurel, a Chicago-based business executive, travels to Memphis to close a deal to take-over the city's oldest family-owned bank. While she's in town, she bumps into her old flame Clay, a local music promoter with loftier aspirations. Though Laurel tries to stay focused on work, Clay pulls her back to the days when they were a performing duo on the brink of stardom. Laurel finds herself drawn to the City of Blues—and Clay—as she dreams of making music once again. Starring Kellie Pickler and Wes Brown.

As Christmas approaches, Amelia Hughes, a career-focused Chicago app developer lacking in holiday spirit, returns to her small hometown of Christmas Creek to rediscover the meaning of Christmas. There, she reunites with her childhood best friend Mike and her estranged uncle Harry, whose mysterious rift with Amelia's father divided her family during the holiday season when she was a child. As she engages in local holiday festivities — and begins falling for Mike — Amelia finds herself feeling the Christmas spirit. Starring Tori Anderson, Stephen Huszar, Steven Weber, and Kari Matchett.

Why is this lady's southern accent so much stronger than everybody else's? And holy shit at that hotel room. Her hotel room budget must be astronomical.

Return To Christmas Creek

I can't get over how much Handsome McEligible looks like an off-brand Chris Pine...

We subscribed to the streaming channel, and apparently there is a checklist *app* to track which of the new movies you've watched! Madness!

Christmas in Evergreen: Letters to Santa

Better than the usual movies. Least the leads have some chemistry, and they brought back the fantastic looking Santa.

So many new movies...

A Goodwink Christmas

Was inoffensive until..... When the new guy finds out she's engaged to someone, they play a song that sounds like it's trying to be the song from "Planes, Trains and Automobiles" when Neil is on the train and figures out Del is alone

I think they might have actually filmed this movie on Nantucket Island, rather than some random place in Canada. There was a proper Massachusetts city sign, and I don't think that's a detail they would care about.

Christmas at the Palace:
I appreciate that there isn't a "THIS IS MOST UNORTHODOX!" conflict. King's buddies are just like "go for it".

Last Vermont Christmas
Nice chemistry with the leads. Completely false title though, as, of course, they keep the house.

Tonight is one of 3 films this year with non-white people as the leads.

90

Christmas Everlasting - November 24
Christmas is fast approaching and years of long workdays employed at New York's top corporate law firm are about to pay off now that Lucy Toomey (Ali) will be made partner after the New Year. However, when Alice, her older sister with special needs, unexpectedly passes away, Lucy returns back to Nilson's Bay, Wis., to attend the funeral and handle her estate. While Lucy dreads returning to her childhood home, she also feels real sorrow that she was too busy to take her sister's last call. Once back in Nilson's Bay, Lucy meets Peter (Whitfield), her old high school sweetheart and Alice's former attorney, who informs her of the terms of Alice's eccentric will that states in order for Lucy to inherit the family home, she must live there for 30 days through the holidays.

Do any of these movies not involve someone from a big city traveling to a small town?

Every now and then one is set in a big city from start to finish.

And you have the royalty ones where it's not a small town, it's a small country. And the small countries always have hilarious fake names to try and make them sound European.

The few that I can remember that are fully set in the city are A Nutcracker Christmas, My Christmas Dream, and Window Wonderland. I'm sure there's more, but the ones revolving around "big city person heads to small town" seem to be a BIG thing in the Hallmark Christmas movies.

Has anyone ever gone to a big city and help them find their Christmas spirit?
Not Christmas Spirit, but there was one I remember where a family leave their small town Christmas tree farm to sell trees in NYC and the majority of it takes place in the city. It was called Silver Bells.

This schedule officially wore me down. I've missed more movies than I've watched, at this point. I think I'm going to try to catch Christmas Everlasting, though.

Can't even put black borders around the opening credit names so people can read them. Instead you got white text over snowy backgrounds.

She has her own Friends of group?

How do I become that noble!

Oh noes, she is leaving soon... no way to delay her now!

The sister seems overly nice, but the friend in the bake shop was a bit of a dick.

Yeah, that bakery shop girl was being a jerk. I don't know what that was about.

But the courtship ritual with Peter has begun. I've learned that that's basicslly what all these movies are about. I see he started off with the ole "I have an extra Christmas tree and decided to stop by to see if you want it" routine. That's a pretty nice opening.

Why does this whole town seemingly hate her and decides it's now the best time to give her a guilt trip while mourning her sister?

Wow this movie makes small towns seem like cults... so judgey if you aren't into their way of life.

Oh I think she talked nonstop shit about her sister.
Or at least that talk where you talk about something good, and then trail off with... oh if only sister was still around

HA and the movie just confirmed the latter for us.

There's way too many of these movies. I hate that you can't stream them unless you sub to a special streaming service. I'll just Tivo some of them.

I mean she never did officially leave her big city job, did she?

I mean the daughter twist aside, fairly predictable movie, but I enjoyed it.

The friends of Alice/Lucy frighten me though, like the Festive Stepford Sisters.

The three friends weirded me out a little too.

It was a good movie though, by Hallmark standards. We got some deaths this time and mystery people.

This Christmas Everlasting movie is disturbing. These small towns folks are pushy as hell trying to make Lucy into Alice's replacement. All the stuff they're forcing on her seems kinda wrong. They don't seem to respect that she's her own person with her own life.

Does anyone know if this year's movies are available on the Hallmark Movies Now app? Before I pay 4.99 for the month I want to make sure I am not just getting old stuff.

Can't speak to their app, but Sling has just about everything in the rotation available on demand.

I think the Movie's Now app just lets you watch stuff they aren't airing this year.

As Christmas approaches, Noelle (Bure) is at a crossroads in her life when it seems that love, a connection with her father, and her dream career are out of reach. When she stays late at her job in a department store on a snowy Christmas Eve, she accidentally gets locked in after closing. She isn't too concerned about the prospect of spending the night in the store… until a quirky woman appears out of nowhere in the shoe department and tells Noelle that she's her guardian angel. Soon, Noelle finds herself revisiting Christmases past, present, and future as she must work with her new neighbor, a handsome, Christmas-loving firefighter, to plan the annual Christmas Charity Gala. Will visiting the holidays of yesterday and tomorrow help Noelle take new chances and discover the true spirit of Christmas? And in realizing that the only thing standing in her way of leading a fulfilling life is herself, will the love she has longed for all her life be the best surprise gift of all? Starring Candace Cameron Bure, Luke Macfarlane and Jean Smart.
