Cat thread

I've got a two year old ragdoll cat.
She's my first pet and I love her so much.
She's playful and funny and is the best lap cat.

She's been fine but lately just the last few months ive noticed that after she wakes up from a nap she will cough or sneeze (I'm not sure how to tell which is which) about 4 or 5 times.

She doesn't do this every single time she wakes up but more often recently and afterwards she's fine throughout the day so it's just that once after she wakes up.

Is that something to see a vet about? Xrays? I know cats can get asthma but I don't think it's that as she isn't doing it all day.

She never goes outside and she eats royal canin dry food and I have a clean house with no other pets.

it might be worth going in just so they can do a bit of lab work

they would swap and test for an infection

its possible that its just nothing, tho

I'm fairly certain a cat sneezing is normal, but I would ask a vet if you're worried.

That cat's eyes are like if Ray Liotta and Ryan Gosling stared into the bluest ocean.

What a stealth cat brag thread.

I swear, one day one of you Era posters is going to have a thread titled "I've got a mole on my 15 inch dick".

Similar thing happened to my cat. It got to the point where it elevated him to not being able to smell because of the mucus build up, and didn't eat.

So if she stops eating, it's probably because her nose is clogged up. Cats need to smell their food to be interested in it, no smell = no eat.

If that happens you can heat up the food and elevate it so the cat doesn't have to look down to eat, or hand feed her so she is looking up. Usually chicken works good.

But yea, if it gets worst or doesn't stop a visit doesn't hurt.

I'd atleast talk to a vet, I've got 4 cats and they sneeze once in a blue moon.

Also that is one of the most beautiful cats I've ever seen, damn.

My dog started coughing. After a day or so I took her to the vet and she ended up having a heart issue. We gave her meds to try and fix it but they ruined her kidneys. We ended up having to put her down. So go get your cat checked out please.

If everythingelse is normal I️ wouldn't be to worried. Would call the vet and see if they want you to bring it in. My dog coughs sometimes in the morning and I️ was worried and took it to the vet and they said it's cuz she doesn't drink water first thing in the morning then she pulls on the leash and to not worry. Now I️ just have a healthy randomly coughing dog

When my cat gets worked up or scared he sneezes a lot. Went to the vet yesterday for just a checkup and he did it. They didn't worry about it.

I would have the coughing checked out, yes. Ragdolls can have heart defects that manifest as coughing early on. Obviously a worst case scenario but it has been a thing in several of the ragdolls my family has owned over the years. One of them was very hard to diagnose because the cat was so happy all the time he even purred at the vet and it was almost impossible to hear the heart over the purring.

My cats are sneezy sometimes, but that have feline herpes from being in a shelter with a billion other cats, so it's not a big deal unless it turns into a full-blown upper respiratory infection (they had these when I first got them, probably having the virus plus the stress of moving weakening their immune systems).

That being said, if it's something new for your cat, and persistent, it's probably worth getting a checkup with the vet.

I hope your kitty will feel better soon and return to normal quickly.

I let mine outside for about three minutes the other day, because he wanted out, and he came back in limping. He doesn't seem to be in pain, is getting around pretty well and I've felt the leg and paw without finding anything, so I'm keeping an eye on him. It looks to be getting better, albeit slowly, but if it doesn't I'll be taking him to the vet next week.

I hate seeing him limp, and think he did it when he moved like a bat out of hell to get back inside. I let him out, waited just a few minutes then opened the door to check on him and he rushed to the door.

You're cat is adorable!

Honestly, I'd go the vet. Sneezing isn't really something to be worried about, but coughing can be. It might be a hairball. It might be an upper respiratory infection. It might a heart issue. There are so many different things it can be, and you won't know what it is unless a vet takes a look. Better safe than sorry.

And look at those blue eyes! So cute!

Coughing in cats is a bad sign. As some already said, it could be heart issues. Sneezing could be completely benign, but coughing is always a bad thing in cats. (Unless they just inhaled food the wrong way or something super obvious.)

If there is any eye discharge, I'd take her in right away. Otherwise, I'd take her in when you can.

It could be nothing, but coughing plus eye discharge means infection.

Your cat is gorgeous.

I learned today that some essential oils makes it hard for cats to breath. So if you use a diffuser with essential oils it might be?
