Why are you giving the employees who follow rules a hard time?

Because sometimes the rules are pretty arbitrary and other employees seem to recognize that. I've worked retail and food industry, when that was the case I'd bend the rules if it was within my power to do so. Never got in trouble for it and I'd rather do that than have unhappy customers leaving without buying stuff or tipping me. Generally managers don't care if you have some comps if you're sales are better than everyone else's.

Yeah, some of y'all are wildin. It is a lone lost gift card, not a wallet. There are plenty of every day things to feel guilty over. This is not one of them. Loose dollar bills on the ground are also fair game.
If OP didn't want us to judge them one way or another they wouldn't have created the thread.

Yes it would be possible to find who bought the card or who it was given to had you turned it in If either person had a rewards account, that is.

Also lol @ "the employee would have used it" considering they'd get fired if found out and employee purchases are heavily tracked.
