i mean if you're gonna have way too many similarities to a classic and have every shot look worse, what's the point?
They are using a term that is not correct in order to sell it easier.
It also makes people even less aware of all the animators slaving away out there. It's boring and creatively bankrupt on top of it.

(EDIT. Sorry, wrong quote in there. I meant the guy you were replying to as well)

Looks good. Jungle Book was bad but I feel like Lion King's plot should be a little harder to mess up.

Is Zimmer back?

When I see someone like yourself sexualize innocent cartoon characters, then yes I will speak up.

Has Disney flat out called it live action though? The press release of the film's announcement doesn't I know: https://www.thewaltdisneycompany.com/disney-jon-favreau-the-lion-king/

I think the live action comments are just coming from the media and general public just to better explain it. Hell, even some of the media were like "This isn't live action and Disney has never used that term": https://www.cartoonbrew.com/feature...-not-live-action-remake-lion-king-143343.html

the live action remake of lion king is coming the same year as dumbo and aladdin.... it kinda seems like overkill, while im hyped to see this the teaser trailer did look a bit bland visually from the original. the jungle book shined best when it kept the soul from the animated movie, even if those scenes were brief lol

Aladdin and dumbo have shown so far to be much more akin to the vibrancy of the classics even if live action, hopefully this dosent suffer the alice route where the styling just seemed to drown out the shine of the original. the music scenes for lion king will make or break the film though disney has been pretty good with the remakes thus far,

Not feeling it, boring/depressing color palette, creepy and uncanny valley looking animals and James Earl Jones sounding old af.

All these remakes of classic Disney seem pointless to me. It's hard to imagine I'd ever choose to show my kids someday one of these over the original, it's not like the 2D animation has aged particularly badly.

Oh shit Zimmer IS back. If he can just expand on his original score and maybe throw in the Lives in You theme from the musical I'll flip a shit.

The Lion King is one of my favourite movies of all time, always has been really since I was a child. In fact I literally just got back from Disneyland Paris yesterday and spent almost the whole time trying to decide over spending the last of my shopping money on a soft toy of Mufasa or not even though I don't get them much, and I also got quite teary at the Lion King section of the fireworks show.

Honestly not really sure about this, all the remakes are kind of a bit much. Didn't like the Jungle Book much. Wasn't bad but felt like quite a soulless version in comparison to the original. But it was an OK movie in its own right. This is out a week before my birthday so I'm guessing it's meant that I see it. Not a big fan of Beyonce but I'm guessing she'll do Can You Feel The Love Tonight, but from the few bits of acting I have seen of hers I can't say she was bad. I hope it will be good. Do have to agree with those saying James Earl Jones sounded a bit rough but to be fair it's comparing a similar line to one he did decades ago. Would be very hard to replace him even with that difference. Very curious to hear Glover.

Dunno how controversial of an opinion this is but I don't care that much about the Elton John/Tim Rice songs. They're serviceable and catchy, but the meat of the soundtrack to me has always been the Hans Zimmer score.

Like you said, if they include some of the Lebo M songs from the musical that expand on it (He Lives in You, Shadowland and Endless Night are tied for favorite) that's aces and imo more than makes up for dropping Be Prepared.

Shadowland would be a cool inclusion if they rearrange it so that it doesn't re-appropriate themes that don't belong to Nala.

Simba from the CG movie looks too random, it doesn't have any personality or emotion, surprisingly bad.
CGimba was robbed of any identifying marker from the iconic Simba/Mufasa character designs. That's what happens when you go full photorealism without thinking it through. What's memorable about how he looks now? Nothing. He looks like any random lion now, like you said.

man. i want to be excited for this. but the art design feels so... dull. i remember lion king being stunning, breathtaking, a kaleidoscopic of colors and motion.

this is... very realistic, i guess? it's weird, because i thought the jungle book remake was bursting with personality. what happened?

I am scratching my head about this particular remake. The original is regarded as one of the greatest animation films of all time and it doesn't feel dated at all. Now they are simply remaking the whole thing in CG? I can see some merit in the actual live action remakes that also gave the stories a little spin, but simply turning an awarded animation into a CG animation seems weird. I guess they will at least alter the story, add a few songs or scratch them and make it a really serious experience...?

This is precisely the sticking point I have with this remake. By making all the animals look realistic they can't show much, if any, emotion. For example, the scene where Simba finds Mufasa's dead body is likely not going to have as much impact because you can't really see the emotion on his face as he goes from elated to devastated realizing his father is gone.
