Actually yes, to try to make them good if they had a decent central premise but garbage execution.
Wouldn't call it garbage but this is the reason I'm really jonesing for Hunchback to get this treatment. That's a film that badly needed a different directive, one that wasn't very common back in its day when they were still concerned about keeping things marketable and kid-friendly.

Even some of the concessions towards the G rating aren't bad ideas, just really tacky execution (e.g. the gargoyles manifesting themselves as Quasimodo's imaginary friends is a fine idea and even hinted at in the book, but they took it too far in making them kiddie comic relief).

Pic isn't real obviously, but damn, can you imagine? Plenty of new songs from the stage musical they can adapt too to flesh out the story.

THE LITTLE KID INSIDE ME IS SCREAMING IN JOY

This will still make a shitload of money regardless, I am still willing to see this regardless if this is an unnecessary remake.

Would you watch a remake of Jupiter Ascending?

In the first place I have no idea how anyone would go about convincing a bunch of suits to fund a remake of a movie that bombed let alone convinced people to watch it

Um isn't gadot a tad white for esmeralda ?
Fun fact: Esmeralda is white in the book, the Romani stole her as a baby and switched her with baby Quasimodo (who Esmeralda's birth mother found repulsive and left on a church doorstep).

I don't think any modern adaptation acknowledges this and that is absolutely for the best.

Anyway, Gal Gadot. Eh? It'd be nice if they cast an actual Romani actress, though I can't think of any off the top of my head.

They should remake bad movies?

Yes!

I'm not huge on remakes of movies anyway but if they are remade, can we not choose movies that can not be improved upon? Citizen Kane, Casablanca, The Lion King, Star Wars (shut up!) The Godfather. If you would like to bring these movies to another format (stage play, book, video game, opera) cool but the movies can not be improved upon.

Good luck convincing people to find a movie that bombed, let alone convinced the general public isn't better this time.

That is a pretty misleading gif.

Disney's Jungle Book is more subtle, but captures the nuance more realistically. More of a reliance on expressing themselves through their body language than hyperbolic emoting while speaking however.

Mowgli's versions look too exaggerated and unnatural. Cartoonish, if you will.

Watching this reminds me I never ended up seeing Jungle Book. Don't know how indicative that clip is of the full movie, but yeah, not terribly compelled to.

Lion King is at least still Lion King. Even if the trailer didn't do much for me... it's Lion King.

My mother made a disgusted noise when Beyonce's name appeared on the screen yesterday.

I have a feeling racist people are going to be complaining about this movie a lot.

It's a good scene, but there are better throughout the movie.

It's always difficult to capture the musical numbers in a way that invokes the essence of the originals but the film does a good job there as well.

Maybe the best way I'd describe Favreau's remake is it's still The Jungle Book, just with added depth while being more thematically relevant to Kipling's source material than the original animated version.

I wouldn't put it past the racists complaining about the setting being in Africa. Or having black voice actors comprising a majority of the characters. They are that far down the rabbit hole.

They need something to tide over their insecurities until Black Panther 2.

I think it looks good personally and can't wait to see it.

With that said, I love the people asking why Disney would remake this, do this in live action, etc.... this film will easily do over a billion to 1.5 billion.

So I just realized in 2019 Disney has... Captain Marvel, Dumbo, Avengers 4, Aladdin, Toy Story 4, Lion King, Frozen 2 and Star Wars Episode 9

My God just give them the highest grossing title already and don't wait.

It will be the greatest box office year for a studio of all time...for probably forever lol

This movie needs more color. The current palette is way too muted and dull. The striking visuals is one of the reasons the original is so beloved.

Had to double check to see if those weren't real animals. This could turn out great. It's great to hear James Earl Jones, that's for sure!

The trailer left me cold, and combined with their previous live action remakes outside of The Jungle Book has me like:

Man, people are so hard to please. Glad I'm not one of them.

I thought it looked great! Got permanent chills through out the whole thing and loved the scene for scene take on the intro. I'd be okay with the whole movie in that fashion but a change up would also be welcome. Don't really understand the nitpick about the color? I mean, I saw plenty of colors in there. They sky was blue, Simba was yellow/goldenish, the other animals were appropriately colored, Pride Rock was, well, rock colored… so I dunno, don't want to sound dismissive but it really seems nitpicky to me. I also don't understand the live action/CGI complaints. Yeah they said it was live action and obviously from the teaser it's mostly CG but… they're talking fucking animals, what did you expect?

Overall I'm excited. Probably gonna see this one in theaters even if I'm by myself.

i mean if you're gonna have way too many similarities to a classic and have every shot look worse, what's the point?

What is the point of this? I guess they made realistic looking CG animals and think that's enough justification?

So much manpower used to literally make the same thing... Just feels excessive

I'll watch it out of curiosity. It looks...impressive, I guess.

It also looks completely unnecessary. I'm getting the worst flashbacks of the Beauty & the Beast remake where 80% of the shots were matched to the animated version...but executed worse. I know this will make money but blech.

I'm not liking this trend of remake classic animated movies with real looking CG animals. The charm of the original movies relies on it's cartoony artstyle, colors and vibes. This remakes take the artstyle, the colors and vibes, and only leave the CG soulless look most movies have nowadays.

It will make money same reason any entertainment company does anything. Stop expecting high art when their goal is clearly profit.

I thought Jungle Book had the right amount of reverence to the original cartoon with enough new elements to make it worthwhile. The recreation of Lion King scenes with a real life look is impressive, but I hope Favreau strikes that balance again because a recreation doesn't interest me, no matter how impressive and faithful the recreation, since you'll always compare the two and a remake 9 times out of 10 won't stack up favorably.
