The column series for that Jenni Miller article on NBC news is 'hot take'... Maybe it is indeed time to retire that term.
didn't even catch that viggo said the n word during the press tour
Viggo Mortensen has said that he "will not utter" the N-word again, after he uttered it at a post-screening Q&A for Green Book on Wednesday. Mortensen and his co-star Mahershala Ali were talking with moderator Elvis Mitchell at a Film Independent Presents screening about how the movie's interracial friendship fits into a larger conversation about racism in America. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Mortensen used the word to illustrate a point about progress: "For instance, no one says n****r anymore," he said. Audience members from the event said everyone was stunned.

I feel bad for Mahershala being involved in this mess

Slayven had it right with the reverse Driving Miss Daisy line.

And ya, Mortensen really nuked that Q&A. Nothing sells a film about racial understanding like having your white co-lead say the N-word.

kswiston I've been slammed with work but I'll have spare time tomorrow to collate and post, re Venom.

You could probably just wait until Sunday at this point. If you still feel like things are matching what you thought would happen, type it up. If things change, you save a some typing. OS hasn't been updated since last Sunday anyhow.

The full quote is pretty dumb too. Plenty of racists still say the N-word in the present day

Look like dream of venom to make 900 million is dead. It won't even reach 215 million in USA. China can't do much more either with aqua man opening soon.

Keep in mind I didn't say 900M was happening just that it was possible. 903.1M was the number based on a nearly perfect storm. Like Kswiston said a week back, 300M+ from China is/was possible.

It will reach 215M in the US. Logan has similar screen cuts at the same time, Venom has mostly been charting above Logan and Logan made another 4M. Don't underestimate positive effect from Thanks Giving in helping Venom reach 215M.

China is going to be around 260M after this weekend. Aquaman or no, Venom is in a decent position in China to continue to make decent contributions. It slightly over performs on weekends versus weekdays, but it has had great holds during the weekdays to offset overall WoW drops. Venom may not even be out of the top 5 when Aquaman hits.

Just saw Widows.....liked it a lot...great performances from a solid screemplay....love Viola Davis she is a great actress, but Rodriguez and Debicki are just as solid .....Daniel Kaluuya is one scary bad guy...

Awesome camera work and framing too....clever and deliberate mood and vision.

May not be everyones cup of tea but it deserves attention and an audience .

There's not even much you can even do with Robin hood as a story. It's completely creatively run down. You can say the same for King arthur but there's more to and honestly don't get many versions that aren't radically different to the medieval versions.

$4.5M for Venom in China today. Down 64% Friday to Friday.

If the rest of the weekend follows last weekend's pattern, Venom will be sitting at around $240M in China as of Sunday.

Ralph Breaks the Internet gobbled up a huge $10.3 million on Thursday from 4,017 theaters for a revised Wednesday-Sunday debut of $90 million-$94 million.

MGM's Creed II is also taking to the holiday ring in a major way, earning $8.9 million on Thursday from 3,359 locations for a projected five-day launch of $60 million or more, the best Thanksgiving opening of all time for a live-action title.

Source.

Well deserved. I really enjoyed both films!

Haha an error in my excel sheet double counted W3s weekdays omg XD No fucking wonder I kept saying 260 after the weekend and didn't see it anywhere else.

Well because I, a dumbass, formatted my INT (China) excel sheet wrong. I'm not sure at the moment. Venom should still be able to hit 20M over the weekend, but double counting those days effects all % carried forward, so I'll need to fix it and see.

Keep in mind the Friday estimate is still higher than what Fallen Kingdom did on the same day.

Venom 31.1m/1573.5m, +31.6% (JW2 15th day, 24M/1467M/1695M)

So is venom still going to do 850m worldwide when all is said and done?

Depends on Chinese holds, which are not really that predictable. Venom will probably get an extension in China past this Thursday's end of the standard 3 week engagement, but I haven't heard news yet on whether that has been confirmed. Venom will probably be a little under $250M by next Thursday ($246-248M?). If it gets extended, I'd guess somewhere in the $260-270M range as a finish. Maybe closer to the former.

Aquaman will steal most of the theatres away, but that doesn't open until Dec 7th.

It seemed possible that Venom would have a really leggy run last weekend, but drops since last weekend didn't really pan out that way.

Great to see Creed 2 doing well. $60 million projection for opening weekend? That'll be a nice improvement over the first one.

So is it a given, that it will pass homecoming?

Not a certainty for sure, if anything the opposite. But I'm not dumb enough to even try and predict how something will leg out China, much less do it in an overconfident manner.
So they can sell a blatant Daffy Duck rip off by simply changing his color to blue?
Oh it gets so much better. Sure they did spell "Space" as "Apace" on the poster, but at least they don't make it too clear that they're ripping off super man with the colour scheme + outfit. The trailer on the other hand:

I bet Sony is still gonna feel bullish on dragging Tom Holland Into their shitty new universe.

The reason Lionsgate made the film in the first place was to establish a relationship with DiCaprio. Imagine willingly throwing $100m + at a film you don't believe in so you can try and get on the good side of a film star with a spotty track record, financially speaking his recent films are black holes for profit, over the last five years.

Given how badly it appears to have blown up in the faces of all involved I don't see this particular relationship going anywhere soon.
