Ok I guess first thing to do if we're going to run a competition is get some details - we're a global community so there probably isn't going to be 1 race event to organise but 2 or 3 potentially.

So what we need is

Name - Timezone - Availability (weeknights / weekend only)

After that we also need to decide on

Race type (sprint / endurance) - Car Class - Tyre / Fuel usage

And then we have adjudication, how seriously are we taking this and how do we deal with any dispute.

Something we did in the Driveclub live events was to run all cars in ghost / time trial mode so you have no collision issues but it also removes the fun of battling and overtaking.

I've got a lot going on at the moment (employer has gone into administration + family bereavement) or I'd take this on - at the moment though I couldn't even commit to taking part in an event.

Hmm, getting a clean race bonus with at least 5 times sideways contact doesn't seem right. Not that I did it on purpose but it would be an amazing achievement if the game could actually tell this lol.

Just raced the Dragon Trail daily with the 458 Gr.4. This car is so different now, I was really misjudging turns, especially that damn chicane. I have no idea why PD increased the BoP weight on the 458, it already had a hard time being competitive.

This is my fastest car that I currently own. It fits my driving style very well. I don't think the extra weight has really done anything. I have been practicing for the league I am in at Nürburgring GP and ran my fastest time this morning of 2:10xxx. Car felt great. Previous fastest was 2:12xxx. Of course some of it could be me just learning the track, and the tire update, but the weight really didn't seem different to me.

hmm, i have abs set to weak and everything else off.

you reckon i should try your settings?

Play around with different settings and see what you like. I was using rear 2 but with the update to the 458 I now found rear 3 works better for me. I think your braking style has a lot to do with it, and probably if you have a wheel or DS4.

I have two questions.
Has there been any word from PD if we will sometime be able to adjust settings like downforce, gearbox etc. again in daily races? I miss it so much. It sucks that we can not change a single damn thing except tcs and break balance.

Second question. I am currently playing with the DS4. I was thinking of getting the Thrustmaster T80. Does anyone have experience with this wheel? I know that there are much better wheels out there but I don't have the budget for more. Would the T80 be already be an inprovement regarding lap times or is it not worth it at this price range?

I would like to see tuning come back again for dailies but I'm not sure if PD will go back. I think a good compromise is to keep the dailies' tuning setting restricted but then have a race or two that runs all week but allows you to tune everything. Having these "Weekly races" be around an hour or longer as well with some pitstops would be great too.

There was an event a bit back that allowed full tuning, but that was when the events were up all week. I should think as long as the events stay daily then you won't see tuning.

Anyone I know who got a T80 moved on pretty quickly, either to a wheel with force feedback or back to a pad. Can you not stretch to a T150 or pick something up second hand?

Only just started this and am going through the driving tests, feels good to play.

About liveries, I've got 3 in my collection that I found using the search function, but I can't apply them to a car, does it get unlocked later on?

I wondered this earlier:
I just raced the Kyoto daily race. Went in without qualifying time and started last. I gained 5 positions during race finishing 9th. In after race image of my driver and car,it said "Congratulations, your place in now 5" or something similar. What does that mean? My DR and SR remained C/C and my finishing standing indeed was 9.

I just had a similar situation. Raced the blue moon bay daily without quali. Started from last position (15th) and improved my position by eight and finished 7th. In trophy screen it says: "great race, your place is now 8". It must be a translation error or a bug. It just doesn't make any sense.

Yeah that would be a solution. Hopefully PD is planning something

I remenber those times, thats why I want them back ;_;
Currently stretching the budget is not possible. But I guess that if the T80 is not worthwile, then I will wait a little longer to get something like the T150.

Does a 1% change in the weight reduction ratio really give that big a difference to the car's driving ability? Are you sure it's not just a placebo effect?

It changed from 108% > 107% for that car, but I'm not at the game right now so I can't check what that change means in actual kilograms.

Well, it might be a combination of factors. The handling changes are probably more due to the tire grip and physics model changes. But the speed difference might be compounded by the matchups I had. I was trailing a WRX pretty closely for instance that still pulled away from me. I noticed the WRX got a small power bump, but maybe it was just better lines. Also had a Viper placed behind me on the opening straight of first lap blow past me right out of the gate, which I've never had happen before in the 458. Yeah the Viper is faster on straights, but I don't mean gradually pulled away, it was like they had an extra 100m of acceleration on me. I think the 458 gearing needs some attention in the lower gears. Maybe you're right that it's placebo effect. But I've raced these cars many times in the 458 and it felt less competitive.

I've got a lot going on at the moment (employer has gone into administration + family bereavement) or I'd take this on - at the moment though I couldn't even commit to taking part in an event.

I'm sorry to hear that man.

I think you're right on trying to do a single event, for instance I'm on the west coast of NA so I'm 8 hours behind GMT and even more behind the rest of Europe. I'd basically have to hop on in the middle of the day, and connection quality might not even be good.

T150 owner. Its marvelous. Save for the 150 if budget out of reach for the mo.

After playing it for a few hours last night and this morning, I'm really enjoying it. All I've touched so far was buying the GT86 to drift tune and join drift lobbies, and it reminds me so much of GT5 I love it. In the tracks they add, I'm really hoping for Tsukuba Circuit.

I plan on doing the license tests later tonight to get some gift cars/credits. I assume that most people here do the races by joining lobbies? Or is there another matchmaking thing for racing I didn't see?

For some reason it's now not showing that I completed the Bathurst track on hard in arcade ( the tick is gone) even though I have. Has anyone else had something like this? I'm 100% certain I did it. Must be one of the latest patches that caused it

I just hit 24hrs and got my reward in other news.

You must have been on the other side of the tuning imbalance. Basically, people would tune cars to the point where it was vastly unfair to anyone who hadn't tuned. This also led to everyone using the same car with, I assume, the same tuning. I am so grateful that tuning was removed. I was just about to give up on the game. I got into some tuning, but it turned the game from a fun thing to play for a few hours a day to something that would require watching a lot of YouTube videos with tuning spoilers.

As for the T80, it doesn't have force feedback. The main benefit of a wheel is force feedback. Otherwise, you may as well use the Dualshock motion controls. The T150 is the minimum recommended.

I just sat down to catch the last FIA race of the night and.... it's closed? Looking closer, it appears they've silently moved up the times again. West coast NA race times for FIA events are now from 2pm-6pm. What the actual fuck, PD??

This is not at all a reasonable expectation for a major online feature of the game. Anyone who works regular hours on the west coast now has no chance to participate in FIA events.

Bad translation.

It's just means that you improved your grid position from the start by that number of places.

New Dailies, first time we've seen a Gr.4 single make race!

Kyoto Miyabi -- Single Make (Atenza) -- 5 laps
Maggiore GP Reverse -- Single Make (Cayman Gr.4) -- 3 laps
Suzuka Circuit -- Gr.4 (Garage) -- 8 laps -- tire wear, fuel

I just watched the fast lap replay on the Suzuka race... holy hell, that Scirocco is fast in the corners.

For some reason I find the Maggiore Reverse so dreadfully dull. I love that track normally, but in reverse it just feels off.

Sport mode daily races are the primary multiplayer races with matchmaking in the game. They matchmake based on players' Sportsmanship Rating and Driver Rating, which doesn't evolve when doing lobby races, only Sport races.

I've done a few longer races in mission challenge and I like how you have to organize a strategy with your fuel map and tyres. In the events I've already done I prefer to set the fuel map to 2 and easily leave the AI behind even if this means 1 extra pitstop before the end. The tyres actually seem more tricky, softs really don't last that long in the game. Going to try the first 30 lap race in the evening, we'll see how that strategy works out. ;)

Ooh that makes sense, I always assumed driver rating was attached to lobby racing which I thought was odd, but now I understand how it works. I need to try it sometime.

Oh shit you managed to do it. I've got the number of races one but I'm only about halfway to getting the wins/poles achievement. Don't think I'll ever do it as the standard has gone up so much since launch.

What's your DR/SR?
You race a lot, 322 races in roughly 35 days since game launch that gives 9 races per day every day. Thumbs up! I did about 170. Each was a different story, game is amazing and a thrill of racing with others is like a crack. No single player mode can compete with these emotions.

Before a ban I was A/S now I'm C/B IIRC (because of post ban "fuck you too" stance of mine).

I bought the game recently and had a great GR3 race yesterday. Started at 6 and went to second by the end of the first lap, but then these two idiots kept bumping me on every corner. Not proper Forza ramming, but enough to completely throw me off my game, and i made a couple of minor mistakes which allowed 4 people to overtake me and the rest of the race was me just holding on to 6th place.

But then those two idiots ended the race with 8 seconds penalties. It was a long 10 lap race too so imagine the penalties they must have accrued to not be able to burn them off. We were all E rated Drivers with B SR ratings so that made it even more surprising. I was not expecting not one but two idiots with SR B ratings to drive like complete morons.

Finished 4th, my best race so far. I still think you should not be allowed to shave off penalties. I have seen drivers act like total assholes at the start of the race and then spend the rest of the 10-20 minute races driving alone ahead of the pack shaving off their penalties. Penalties should remain until the end of the race and added to the top of your overall times. it's silly to penalize someone 2 seconds for cutting a corner when you know hes going to shave it off in the next few turns. now if that penalty remained until the end, he would think twice about cutting corners, nudging people and just being an obnoxious dick.

For some stupid reason, everyone starts at DR E, SR B, so they could have been idiots yet to be demoted down the SR ranks.

The problem with retaining the penalties at the moment is that you can be punished unfairly (not really played enough since the new patch to know how much it's changed things though). So to be rear ended and get a 10 second penalty that you can't lose would annoy people more than the current system does - some tracks are tough to lose the penalties on too, tracks with hairpins tend to be easier.

Yeah I'm getting put in DR A lobbies whenever I get to play at the mo, it can be a battle to finish in the top ten and my DR progress bar looks to be working its way back down again...

There's nothing stupid about that. First, you have to start somewhere in the SR ranks and second, that somewhere needs to have levels below for rammers to dump down into.

It would be absolutely stupid to have everyone start in the lowest SR rank.

I havn't won a single race since the game was released. In the beta I won loads but starting of at B/A then dropping down to B/B has pretty muched ensured I have had racers always at the same level as me. Everytime I was close to winning some twat would just take me out on the last lap in B/B and then when I got to B/S I always get put with people who are A/S and just a shit load better. I was thinking of tanking my DR just to get some wins but then remembered I'd need to also tank my SR otherwise i'd still be matched with the same A/S players anyway.

I've got 6 wins in the full game (got a few in the betas) but I think 5 of the 6 have come in the FIA championship where the live qualifying and longer races suit me better (I might not be the outright quickest but I'm consistent - I have 5 poles, 6 wins but only 2 fastest laps). But as the championship didn't start till I was at higher ranks I think most of my wins are at DR B. I did get to race against a lot of B and lower people though, think I've only had 1 win when there's been any A's present. It is a bit of a flaw in the system though if to get wins someone can just decide to drive like a twat for a few races, tank your DR and SR then just out qualify and outpace the lower ranks.

Oh and I know your pain...

I'm still really upset that west coast NA has FIA times of 2-6pm. I read that New Zealand's races start at midnight now. How is this acceptable? I'm sure there's plenty of people who work and can't just show up in the middle of the afternoon or the middle of the night, especially when FIA sessions span multiple days per week.

These races should have separate starting times for each region. I'm basically not able to participate now in one of the major components of GTS's focus, and the one I probably enjoyed the most.

Not stupid at all. Start in the mud of E, stay there if you're a jerk, and climb out if you have any decency at all. Problem right now is that there aren't enough ranks to differentiate good drivers. I've been in S for a while and there's still plenty of people intentionally ramming. I need a S+ rank to get away from them, but there's nowhere to go.

I hear you. I only have 3 wins, all on ovals mind you.......but I am sitting at C/S, got there naturally but now I am happy if I get a top ten because I am getting in with A/S's like you. I am nowhere near that fast, not sure why the DR seems to have so little to do with matchmaking. I'd rather race some C/X than X/S

When you have a ranking system like this you don't want newcomers to race their first races in the bottom hell with the worst of the worst rammers and scare them away. It's the right thing to start you out somewhere in the SR middle.

I may have to tweet Kaz about it. It's really infuriating. And kind of perplexing, like...LA, SF, San Diego, Seattle, Portland...these cities don't matter to PD?

Sure, start them at D or something. But as it is now, if B is considered neutral SR, then we have three ranks dedicated to bad sportsmanship, and two ranks for people who care about clean racing. Maybe if they actually had a proper system for teaching how to race safely and cleanly they wouldn't need three ranks of bumper cars.

Just spent 8 laps in first place on Suzuka to get slammed from behind in to the last corner by 2nd place so they can take 1st.

There needs to be some sort of algorithm that can automatically detect players like that and uninstall their game.
