Devil Halton's Trap
My Thanksgiving haul:

  • Cherry Tree High Comedy Club
  • Crypt of the Necrodancer
  • Mad Father (going with Dusk Golem's rec here)
  • The Silver Case (I need some old Suda in my life) OR 428: Shibuya Scramble
  • Ty the Tasmanian Tiger (childhood favorite)
  • Umineko: When They Cry - Question Arcs (gotta get these before the Gold update gets crowdfunded)

Going to finally pickup some long awaited games:

The House in Fata Morgana / The House in Fata Morgana: A Requiem for Innocence
Cuphead

Might end up with more before the sale is over.
Damn good choices, those two. They're very accessible and superlative in their genres, plus there's a ton to discuss once you're done. Fata Morgana's been on my mind so much after playing it recently. I can't wait for Cuphead's DLC either.

Well here's all the VR games on sale. Skyrim and Fallout 4 VR are both discounted if you were interested in those.

Space Pirate Trainer is a great pickup for new VR players.

Also SUPERHOT. If you've played it in 2d, it's even better in VR.

A bunch of VR developers put together a special bundle for the sale, which has some great titles in it, including Space Pirate Trainer, Superhot VR, Job Simulator, and Gorn:

Picked up DQXI. Think I'm tapping out after that. Not much else that I'd be able to play anytime soon anyway :) Looking forward to digging into that game at least

Happy Turkey Day everyone!

Pro tip for those looking for deals from specific publishers and/or developers. There's a page just for that. Most, if not all major publishers/developers, have their own landing page with custom layouts and featured titles.

Full list and shortcuts here:

Like others here, I'm not too inclined to pick up anything I am not going to play right this minute as we already know a December sale is coming in a month, and I have more than enough to keep me occupied until then. Otherwise this would be the perfect opportunity for me to finally catch up on XCOM 2's War of the Chosen expansion and other additions, as I haven't played since vanilla and have been waiting for a good price on the full package. Likewise, Civ6 has finally plummeted as a full package, but that's with the understanding an expansion is about to hit in February, and I might as well wait.

Looking over my wish list, in many cases these are not even the lowest prices I've seen in the recent months.

Also notable is that nothing in the remaining Telltale catalogue is on any kind of fire sale, by the looks of it; guess nobody there was left to throw the switch. Most of the seasons that remain on sale received a baseline drop to $15 when they went bust, but perhaps we won't see them go any lower, just sit on the shop until the licences are pulled.

My highest personal recommendation is for Into the Breach. I played it on the Switch and it blew all my expectations away, and it may very well close out this year as my #1.

Also, for those not averse to Early Access, Oxygen Not Included is 45% off (a new low, I'm pretty sure) and phenomenal. The game recently delivered the last of its major systems patches, and while the 1.0 release is probably still at least half a year to a year away (lots of tuning and minor content infill to go), it's a very complete experience in an exceptional state with more depth and breadth of content than you can handle in that time. If you are curious about it at all, you may as well get a start on learning the game now. I've put in over 100 hours and have yet to crack the late-game content at all, as there is so much to keep you busy before you get there. I can't even go back to RimWorld anymore, even after the 1.0 release, without feeling that I'd rather scratch my pause-and-play colony simulator itch with more ONI.
Oxygen not included is at 25% disc not 45

The Internet
I bought:

The Stanley Parable
Audiosurf 2
Heat Signature
Underrail

All for about $20. Those were the top 4 games on my Steam wishlist, so I should be good for a while. Don't even need to look at the larger sale.

Any hidden gems this time around?

When the sale started yesterday I had 20 games in my wishlist... Of those 20, 19 went on sale.... I ended up buying the one that wasn't (Obra Dinn) lol.

Surprised that SoulCalibur 6 isn't on sale given that Megaman 11 and Valkyria Chronicles 4 both are and came out around the same time.

Picked up Cross Code, which is a really great 2d, pixel art RPG with platforming and puzzle elements. There's an exceptional amount of game to this game, especially given its lower usual price point of US$19.99, although with the sale I bought it for $16.99.

Also looking at GTAV and Final Fantasy X/X-2 Remaster, both games I played back in the day but then lost.

Somewhere.
I know it isn't quite well received, but is Silent Hill Homecoming okay enough for some fill on that series via steam? If I don't go with that, then I will probably check out Prey Mooncrash.

Well, the main thread is still open, and the Winter Sale is only a month away. The Autumn Sale is the first big sale that follows the Summer Sale, but due to its close proximity to the Winter Sale, there's really no point in buying anything that you won't play in the near future or isn't in danger of being delisted within the next few weeks.

That was a temporary promotion. To quality, you needed to own the original game and all paid DLC prior to the release of the Special Edition.
So would you advise not to buy anything during this sale, that everything will be on sale again at better prices for the Winter sale?

I actually ended up enjoying Homecoming quite a bit, once I got a handle on the combat (I initially found dodging to be finicky). Sure it's a pale shadow of the other games, but still some fun and creepy monsters to be found.

Did you play the PC version? Cause looking through the reviews on the steam page, it seems to be a really bad port.

Not necessarily better, but it's exceedingly rare for a game to be discounted during the Autumn Sale and then skip or have a lower discount for the Winter Sale, so if you're eyeing something you're not sure you'll get around to playing before late December and it's not in danger of being delisted, you might as well sit on your hands and see if you can't save a few bucks.

Don't forget to get Keen Dreams as well, it's not in the Commander Keen Complete Pack for some reason. Aliens took my Babysitter isn't either, I think there was some deal with Softdisk back in the day that held it from getting rereleased.

I had some money in my wallet from selling cards, so I bought Life is Strange Before the Storm. I only had to add like $0,10 from my PayPal.

It's a visual novel.

I hope you get to play it soon because it's probably my favorite game of all time.

I've been reading it and it's definitely interesting, I'm only a few hours into it though so I can't give a definitive opinion.

I'm debating getting BTS as well, did you go for the deluxe edition?

Well its a hidden gem because no one talks about it anywhere and especially not on his forum but Slay the Spire is amazing for the price. Its my GOTY and they are still in the process of updating it, one of those games that uses its early access period really well with constant dev engagement and steady content releases.

CrossCode is my #1 favorite action RPG ever but totally slipped through the cracks when it came out.
Definitely grabbing Grim Dawn + DLC & Slime Rancher (finally, after playing the demo repeatedly).

Gazing longingly at a few I am way overdue on:
Just when I was making headway on my backlog.
I can totally back up OneShot. It's not very long either so it's not a huge commitment.

I was going to get Reigns: Her Majesty, then remembered the game is better on mobile. It's also discounted on the Play Store right now! Picked up Speed Dating for Ghosts instead. It's short but the writing can get surprisingly poignant.

Honest question but, what makes a visual novel a "game"?
I have never "played" one and it seems like reading a book.
What makes it that good in your opinion?
What makes it that good: Its story talks about things I have seen perhaps no other game tackle, it has an absolutely amazing soundtrack, the characters are the best-realized cast I've seen in perhaps any game.

Regarding your first question: It depends from person to person. Some say visual novels are a separate medium altogether. Some say having choices makes them a game. Etc.

Ended up buying Ryse, too. 5 moneys isn't a whole lot, even if I end up finding it boring.

I'm enjoying what I've played of Quantum Break, even if I must use a low resolution to get acceptable framerate. I love Remedy's world-bulding and design, and the story is captivating so far.
