I have come to the realization that Disney live action is the red headed step of the studio. They will soon be joined by other sucky ones from Fox, but for now they stand alone. They would be straight up just releasing non stop bombas if it wasn't for Pirates or remakes of old animated movies.

Robert Downey Jr knows what's up (he just posted this pic on his FB page). Venom getting that deserved respect lol.

The live-action movies are still making money. Most are critic proof.

RDJ probably knows something. Feige can't deny the Venom phenomenon. The Chinese market is real. I remember RDJ posting a pic of Spider-Man way before the Sony/Marvel deal was announced.

Even then you have stuff like the BatB and the Jungle Book which make a metric fuckton of money.

That's what he said though:

Three big films against The Finest Hours, The BFG, Alice Through the Looking Glass, Pete's Dragon, A Wrinkle in Time, Christopher Robin, and Nutcracker since the start of 2016.

So batting 3 out of 10 in recent years, and even Pirates was down close to $250M from the fourth one.

It's looking like Mary Poppins might make it 4 out of 11 though.

Is this all under one division of Disney? There isn't a separate studio that does the lesser known stuff like Nutcracker and the main one that does well known stuff like Aladdin?

Man, I seriously doubt that JK Rowling would have made such drastic changes to a follow up of a book in a 5 part series, why did she think that doing it for a movie would be a ok?

FB1 -> FB2 is some mini Alien Covenant level shit.

When Disney makes bank those failures might as well be wiped away. Now if Aladdin bombs then I'd start worrying. They're playing a dangerous game.

Records are gonna get obliterated. I'm thinking $260M+ OW, $40M+ on Monday and Tuesday, on its way to at least $800M domestic and over $2 billion worldwide.

The one thing that may stop The Lion King being the king of the worldwide box office is China being China, but I am uninformed of what China currently thinks of Lion King, what do they think?

They can win China if they attach an Exclusive Mulan teaser to the film.

Lion King looks good but I'm not really seeing anything in it that says it's gonna break records. But nostalgia is a hell of a drug so who knows.

Venom keeps trucking with a 100 mill budget. Way lower than marvels normal 170, what the hell. Not even bad reviews could stop it.

Lion King is as big as it gets for older animated films, lesser films than it have done gangbusters in this Disney live action remake series. It's gonna smash the BO.

In general that question doesn't have much merit. Especially for a Disney, what reason other than money do you think they're making movies for. Lion King is a safe bet to make well over a billion dollars, with the chance to hit two bil.

We can get away by calling 2019 the disney box office thread instead of the weekend box office
