With Astro Bot, Sony Japan showed that they also can make great platformer games.

And not only trash like Knack ;)
The saddest part about that is almost every Ape Escape staff with key roles are still working at JAPAN Studio. Character designer Taichi Ogawa has been wasted time on Knack series as character and enemy concept artist.

The problem has been lack of a leader. Lead planner Hidekuni Sakai left in 2005 when they wrapped up Ape Escape 3. Susumu Takatsuka created the franchise and left in 2000. Sakai-san kept going with the franchise until he left.

How many of the good PSVR exclusive games can be played either sitting or standing stationary?

I already have a Vive setup with a good amount of room, so I would only use PSVR for things like astrobot and re7 that I can't get on PC. But the PS4 would be in a room with couch, coffee table, etc and no room to move around

Maybe Naughty Dog could implement a first person view for Part II + PSVR experience, like Resident Evil 7.

I believe the majority of the exclusives works well sitting. You've mentioned Astro and RE7 already. I'm a bit fuzzy on which games are exclusive, but the Persistence, Tetris Effect, Wipeout, Firewall, Rez, Polybius, Battlezone, Farpoint, Déraciné and Rigs all work fine, if not even best, sitting down. I'm sure I've forgotten a few games on top of those.

I almost only play my psvr sitting. The one exception was it didn't work well with Batman vr sitting.

Also I imagine beat saber will be a standing VR game. But you have a vive so I'd get it for that anyway

My favorite PSVR games are sitting experiences, Resident Evil 7, Tetris Effect, Astro Bot, Gran Turismo, Until Dawn... i'm not a fan of standing up and playing VR games simply because of the wires and i can't see what's going on around.

I jumped on to VR with the deals going on and Astrobot is super fun and charming! ... but I'm getting motion sick from it... Is it something I can grow a tolerance to or am I just super screwed for VR?

I don't know. Their games are awesome and all but I don't think they'd know how to tackle the VR space. From Software are also one of the best but their first VR game didn't turn out that great. It would be more efficient for Sony to give a bigger budget to their actual best VR teams (Astro-bot and Firewall). Maybe give them a better autonomy and let them expand into their own studios.

I really don't feel like spending $200 on a VR set just for one game but I do want to play this. Maybe when PS5 happens and if the VR lineup gets fleshed out a bit more.

If you get motion sick in a game, I've found that having a fan running helps quite a bit.

Kohl's has a $15 back in Kohl's points for every $50 spent. So for astrobot bundle, you get $60 back.

Just throwing these out here.

I will hopefully be able to try PSVR and astrobot myself come Christmas.

It's not for 1 game
You have Astro Bot, Beat Saber, RE7, Tetris Effect, Deracine, Moss, Firewall Zero Hours, Far Point, and Wipeout....

A lot of great games for VR !

Ordered a VR bundle today. I didn't think VR would become worth owning for me this gen but I'm happy Sony stuck with it and Astro Bot was the thing that pushed me over the edge. There isn't a ton of games I want to play but for $200, I feel I can justify it. Moss, Astro Bot, RE7 VR and some PS+ games which I already "own" makes it good enough value to take the gamble. If I end up loving the experience then I have my eyes on a few more games too.

Not interested in tetris or beat saber and wipeout's not my thing. Never cared for racers.

RE7 would be good but horror games and me have a rough history. I managed to play the regular RE7 but it was a tense time, doing it in VR would probably kill me.

I'm not even that into platformers, but with the amount of praise, I'm starting to think

I should buy Astrobot.

My buddy got psvr to play firewall zero as he's a big shooter fan. He tried the astro bot demo and was blown away. And he doesn't even play platformers. I knew it was good when he told me that.

Astro Bot is perfect to sit and play

The top guy from SSM moved to Studio Japan for that reason around 5 years ago.

Great to see such an amazing game get some credit. Spread the good word, brothers and sisters.

It's the first game in years that made a cynical old bugger like me smile like a 6 years old at Christmas. Pure joy.

I'm really curious, I've read a few articles but I still don't get it. What make this game so special, worthy of being in all-time top 10 lists? Is it just the VR implementation? I don't have VR, so it might just be the feel of being in the levels. I really don't get it, it doesn't look that special from just watching vids
It's hard to describe it, but if you have played Resident Evil 7 then you have played merily a good game. In VR it is a master piece. That's the best description I can give as to the immersion that VR provides.
Welp that sucks

Roommate likes it, but it feels heavy on my face on top of making me nauseous after about 15 minutes.

Makes me nauseous after about 15 minutes and I can never see mysef finishing a game on it.
If you haven't done so already: Go to settings on PS4. Go to hardware section. Select PSVR. Go through every single settings there is. But the most important one is eye distance. That setting will take your picture and then ask to do couple of fiddle faddle and determine distance between your eyes. This setting goes a long way to reduce any discomfort.

Seriously, Sony did a bad job buring this setting in the menus.

Got my PSVR yesterday and played the first world yesterday. It's really fun and makes good use of the VR features. I'm certain this will land high on my GOTY list.

Wouldn't call it on par with Mario so far though because the movement options are too limited for what I want out of a 3D platformer.
The first world is the worst section of levels imo. Not that they are even remotely bad, its just that they aren't as good as the rest of the game. World 2 and after is when every level is mindblowing. World 1 is just amazing levels

"You've got your largely linear levels, which are actually more akin to something like Crash Bandicoot or Super Magnetic Neo than Super Mario 64."

I am incredibly guilty of tossing in references and assuming people will know what I'm talking about or, if they don't, can look it up online if they're curious. Even so I'd think twice before tossing in Super Magnetic Neo.

To be clear, this isn't a complaint. :)
