Auto-aim vs free-aim. Which is more ideal for you?

What are some titles that you've played, where having a particular amount of input is crucial to your experience?

A recent one is RDR2. I went with auto aim for the most part as I can't for the life of me use a controller to aim. Taking the time to line up all my shots just felt really unsatisfying, especially with the fucked dead-zone. For the most part, I prefer free aim.
