"Xbox One X players, rejoice! Our final planned update for 2018 arrives this December and it's bringing Enhanced Xbox One X support with it!

The aptly-named, December Update, will roll out on all platforms on December 3 at 10:00 AM PST/ 6:00 PM UTC (pending first-party certification). Once installed, you'll be able to play Rocket League on Xbox One X in native 4K resolution at 60 frames per second, complete with HDR (high dynamic range). Please note: 4K support requires a 4K-capable television and a compatible HDMI cable.

Playing on Xbox One X, but with a 1080p TV or display? You can still take advantage of supersampling on the Xbox One X with this update! To learn more about 4K support, HDR, and supersampling on the Xbox One X, click here.

If you're playing Rocket League on one of our other supported platforms, the December Update has plenty in store for you, including:

Once the December Update is out in the wild, we'll follow up with more information about Rocket Pass 2 and Frosty Fest 2018, both of which kick off before year's end. Thanks, everyone!"

I've weirdly been waiting for this. I own the game for every platform they've put it out for, so it's not like I haven't had access or just haven't played at all, but this is cool. I hadn't known about the HDR add-on though.

Please don't point out how easily I could already do 4K on my PC. Because then I'll feel silly.

Glad to hear this is coming soon! And impressive how they kept their initial promise basically exactly:
January 2018: "We are now targeting Xbox One X support for late 2018"

I don't know why it took a year, but I'm grateful it is finally arriving.
They explained this as follows:

On the contrary - Xbox is very important to us and continues to sell very well.

Xbox One X support is a complicated one because it requires a lot of updates AND the benefit is less clear cut. To enable it, we have to do a full XDK upgrade (Microsoft's development layer that Xbox games are built on top of) which changed and removed lots of multiplayer functionality we rely on for Parties and other functionality. So it's a big job beyond just the actual 4k rendering/etc. updates.

The game already runs better on the X due to the improved hardware inside, so the main benefit is that 4K support. And we had to make some tough choices about how much 4k in Rocket League was worth compared to our other priorities - Tournaments, etc.

We're still committed to delivering Xbox One X support but that's the summary of how we got here.
