Someone on Reddit posted their speculation on how Squad Strike works, and I think it's spot on:
I think Refill Stock/Tag Team is what Sakurai alluded to as like Judo matches. Two characters fight (Mario V Link), winning side gets a point, both are done. Then two different characters fight (Samus v Luigi, aka refill stock). Best of series. This mode seems to match JC's description from the Nintendo Power Podcast:
It's one full battle, and you can do first-to-threes, first-to-twos, you know.
Elimination/Scroll Stock is what Sakurai's column was translated to read as "winner stays." So if Mario wins the Round 1 match against Link, he will go on to face Luigi. Theoretically he could sweep the whole team (eliminating characters on the other side, the stock of characters will be 'scrolled' through).

The fact that we have to guess what it is makes me think it won't be what people want. Because what we want it to be would actulaly make for cool footage to show in a trailer. What we think it likely is would be less cool to show in a trailer.

On the assumption Squad Strike works like the way we don't want it to, I really wonder why they didn't make a mode like that.

Yeah, Android 17 is just an annoying troll I've known for awhile on Discord. He's always constantly doing stupid shit like raiding random Discord groups and mooning the camera during video calls (really).

Not sure if this was known before. But this smells to me like the lobby style of monster hunter on switch.
Where you can make a lobby, and anyone can find it and join in. Or you can add a password (says No password), and only those that know it can join, or just friends.
This is pretty darn cool if it works as intended!!! We could make Era rooms without having to worry about adding each other, we can spectate, join at any time, wait in line etc
Here hoping it works as such!
PS: What is not yet clear, if voice chat here with randoms is possible, or if it is just with friends. I will likely still leverage Discord, because not only does it offer voice chat, but text chat as well. But still, being able to make these rooms is pretty sweet

like all someone has to do is compare it to Smash Tour. Just "oh yeah it's like that exactly, you pikc your 3 or 5 characters, and then duke it out" or "oh, it's not like that, it's like [whatever]"
i mean all someone actually has to do is provide a screenshot of the battle. just a single screen will tell us everything we need to know.
Speaking of, I noticed that the mock up they did for SmashDown (another mode we've not seen in motion, somehow, but they made a new mock up for it?) was updated with the Isabelle, Ken & Incineroar but still does not have the Miis. I was hoping that was just a bit of weirdness for the 8.8 direct but no. Miis are usable everywhere...except Classic & Smash Down....??

Friend lobbies would be a pretty big deal. I'm not even interested in online play and that's a huge QOL boon.

Oh, so they're the same guy. That guy really is pathetic. He's banned now, so good riddance.
I'll admit, Android 17 did something very weird and creepy, but years ago I was on the receiving end of a truly insane guy's harassment on another forum and he wasn't banned until he went a total rampage mass-spamming an old photo of myself he tried to embarrassingly photoshop in topics throughout the main board. It was fucking bizarre.
I'm really glad that the mods and admins here were quick to act once Android's antics were clear.
