Does the possibility of MS buying BioWare even exist, legally?

Anyways, Dragon Age 2 was truly insulting in a number of ways but still has my favorite narrative and themes in the series, I loved the sword and sorcery-esque rise into power and the game would have been amazing if Kirkwall had been more akin to something like Novigrad. Had the devs had the time, budget and a decent engine I think we would have gotten something truly special.

I don't think they'll sell BW fully with Anthem coming out, but maybe the IP and certain studios?

It would be strange to have MS buying a studio from another big company like EA. If only Bioware was still independent.

A possibility is MS renting out the license from EA, given the excuse that the original Mass effect was exclusive on Xbox 360 for a while, then on PC.

^^ Something about how fast his head whips back into frame just looks really silly.

I love DA2. Fight me.
I did too. It was intimate.
If it did not have the Dragon Age name on the logo, it would probably be remembered as one cult AA RPG classic that's clunky but fun.

Just giving it a subtitle instead of calling it "2" like a true sequel would have gone a long way. People would have seen it as a sort of spin off. IIRC that was the plan at some point, but EA gonna EA.

Bioware is going Live or Die based on Anthem, isn't it?

Who am I kidding, EA probably has absurd expectations for the game.

RIP Bioware, it was nice knowing you.

If Anthem does well EA will probably shift more development resources into ongoing content for Anthem and Anthem 2.
If it does poorly...well.

In theory it's possible but wouldn't EA own the rights to Mass Effect and Dragon Age?

Are people seriously gonna bring up MS buying every studio that is struggling? I can't wait to see BFV sales, maybe MS will buy Dice too.

MS partly funded Mass Effect and the studio has had a very close relationship with MS since KOTOR. The two most similar developers out there were just bought up by MS. The speculation isn't exactly out of nowhere.

I think the only chance of Microsoft buying Bioware would be if Anthem flopped so badly that EA was going to close them down. I'm sure then Microsoft would at least look at the possibility.

Unlikely though and it would be even more unlikely EA would sell the franchise's even if it did happen.

People live in a fantasy world, in la la land when it relates to microsoft and buying studios. Lets not forget there was rumours that people believed that was microsoft buying valve and EA. Dulusional people.

Bioware aren't exactly EA or Valve though and I'm sure people would have said Microsoft buying Rare was delusional at the time too.

It was just a harmless speculation. That's what we do on subjects of news, discussing possibilities or impossibilities.

I mean, it's not exactly a huge secret that basically everyone at BioWare is on Anthem right now, and both the major success and failure cases for that would make it pretty hard to get a lot of resources for Dragon Age going anytime soon.
For large GaaS titles, how much of the staff continues to work on the Live Service/post launch portion of the game? LinkedIn has Bioware at 669 employees (I've also read 800). I suppose after Anthem's launch, 100-200 employees could transition to Dragon Age 4's development team in order for the game to target a Q4 2022/Q1 2023 release window.

I finished Inqusition way back when it released, got a Platinum for it too, ... just played and finished theTrespasser dlc, playing through to the end.. and my heart sank.. knowing we may never see another Dragon Age. The way it builds into the crescendo of the next game, a next war.. and then. Well. We may never get that.

Two game series I've always loved from the begining, Mass Effect and Dragon Age.. may never see the light of day because of GaAS and its heartbreaking.

If it did not have the Dragon Age 2 name on the logo it would still be a ridiculous game where you play one hour you played it all because you spend the entire damn game on the same five maps fighting the same spawn-from-thin-air enemies

Hmmm I should really play Inquisition. It has been $10 in the bargain bin at Gamestop for forever. I actually liked Mass Effect Andromeda so I might like this as well.

While Andromeda is pretty much a reskinned Inquisition, Inquisition is a much smarter story with far better characters, which carries the rather bland gameplay a lot further than Andromeda manages to do. In fact I would consider it the best game in the DA series, but then I think DAO is one of the worst things I've ever played and I thought DA2 was fine but not spectacular, so I am hardly the norm on the series.

I agree DAI > DA2 > DAO

Loved Inquisition I think I have over 600 hours on it. The only thing that disappointed me was the castle upgrading. It felt incomplete and hopefully gets expanded on in the next game.

I am glad they developed DA Keep so I don't have to play Origins again.

To me DA2 was a step down in about every regard compared to DA:O. Much smaller scale and scope of both the story and setting, constant re-use of art assests (especially for dungeons), combat that was dumbed down and made placement of your abilities and map control pointless because enemies just randomly spawned, it made it a real slog to get through. It felt like a game that had very little budget and a very short development time so they had to restrict it to this one city mainly. i tried to play through it twice and never could make it to the end, just the epitome of a "meh" game to me.

DA:O kept my attention all the way through, always excited to see where the story would take me and how it'd unfold.

DA:I I feel was a bit unfairly bashed post release, I understand some complaints, mainly the repetitive "fetch" quests that got old and the whole "Hinterlands" bit that got tiring to a lot of people (hence "Leave the hinterlands" became advice for new players), but otherwise I felt it was a good game when it came to the overall story, characters, and world design. It was a major step up from DA2 and though it didn't overtake DA:O for me I'd still place it up there near it, way above DA2.

The amount of reactionary alarmism is starting to border on the absurd.

The Legendary Game Dev Bioware isn't going to close anytime soon - there is going to be another Mass Effect, Dragon Age & Anthem.

Not to get all "my uncle works for Nintendo" on you but I know someone who works at Bioware who has beem worried about the studio for at least a year. They very much need Anthem to be a hit.
