update:
the film's releasing on YouTube in a few hours:

just stumbled across this on youtube
(someBODY ONCE TOLD ME)
:

3gi, the people behind the apparent annual festival 'shrekfest', decided to get a bunch of different animators and content creators - and each of their own unique styles - to recreate the entirety of the first Shrek movie. this includes peeps like unklejoe, michael cusack, sick animation and many more. looks absolutely mad.

releases 29th november.

edit: quartz video on the project:
quartz released a video discussing the film, shrekfest and the fandom in general:

apparently grant duffrin - the guy who helps coordinate shrekfest - has been putting this together for the past 5 years. that's some serious shrekication.

It would be interesting to see how much whatever this will be will work with stuff translations did and how much will not.

Eh, that looks kind of meh. I like the idea of remaking the movie in different artstyles, like Moon Anime Make-Up, but this... this just doesn't look appealing. And the lack of original voice actors (and probably music) is dissapointing.

They got Chris-Chan. That's all the info I need to know that this will be a masterpiece.

These are always unbearable to me. I'd personally prefer if the organizers exercised a little curatorial discretion, picked a bunch of the best applicants, and let them each do an entire scene in a given style instead of single shots or like 4 second clips. My brain can't take the whiplash otherwise.

Wait, what? What happened to DWA?

https://www.resetera.com/threads/illumination-to-revive-shrek-franchise.79309/

NBC Universal acquired Dreamworks Animation last year.

https://www.cmcsa.com/news-releases...al-completes-dreamworks-animation-acquisition

NBC Universal now owns 2 animation studios, Dreamworks Animation and Illumination. One studio is make a lot more money than the other is at the moment, so that's why Illumination got given Shrek 5.

Unsurprisngly the notion to make Shrek 5 got annonuced shortly after the merger.

Considering Illuminations track record, it doesn't fill me with hope. And I worry for what happens to Dreamworks after How To Train Your Dragon 3.
