I know Rockstar won't do it, but damn, I want a NG+. There's a number of outfits you can't complete until Epilogue (without glitching, anyway), and by then it feels kinda pointless.

So i get randomly attacked by some gang for no reason, I fight back, kill one of their horses in the process, and some guy wants to report me for animal cruelty. Wtf yo

The bounty/report system is completely fucked. Should be one of the first things to get a patch, but with zero news about a patch almost four weeks after launch I've lost hope.

Seems the complete focus on RDR Online (which I'm super hyped for) kind of fucked early campaign players in the process.

Finally done with the main story.
My X pressing finger needs a rest now.
Cracked up at that "ride back" song. Not sure that was a great choice.
This game gets a 10/10 and a 2/10 at the same time. I need 5 more years of NO ROCKSTAR before I can endure this high and low again.

Bruh, it's people's legit frustrations with the game. You can't be annoyed by their opinion towards it. That's what they feel because they're players. You're basically saying "they did it that way on purpose, it's not designed that way-" as if that's supposedly supposed to make everyone love what they did.

Yeah, every game has it's own boundaries. That applies to this game. What I'm seeing are people mostly upset about the boundaries this game is placing on them as a player such as the animation system that's brought up a lot. People got tired of the slowness revolving around animations and the input lag associated with it. They want it to feel faster, more responsive and to not be dragging along because they like that pace. Even if Rockstar designed the game that way, that doesn't mean that if it changed it wouldn't make the people enjoy it more. For these people their experiences would benefit from changes like that. I don't see anything wrong with that. Rockstar had a vision with this game but at the same time it doesn't mean people can't wish it were something else. We as players are allowed to think their vision is shitty if we feel that way. Secondly,

You said that the game was designed that way to craft "a solid narrative in most cases" without recognizing that it doesn't mean we as players have to like it. That doesn't mean we can't say "well I wish it were better" because at the end of the day we're consumers. If the restaurant down the street gives me a dish and I wish it had more sugar in it because I'll like it more then I have the right. You can't say "well they designed it that way so-" to me. That doesn't change my opinion. Same with those who play this game. Like, man, you just said that looting has never been fun in a videogame. As a player why would I want to loot then? I'm playing games to have fun. If you have me do something I don't want to do then that just makes me dislike your game more which in turn turns me away from the game.

Again, if your game has me do something I don't want to do because it's not fun then hey, I've got the right to say I wish it were changed and you can't say "well the vision was-", nah nah stop all that noise. You might like doing things in games you don't think is fun but most of us play these games for fun, relaxation, we do this on the side away from jobs and other real life situations where we do things we don't want to do. You mean to tell me that it's a silly complaint to say "man I don't wanna loot because it's not fun" just because it's the developers' vision for it not being fun?

You need to cut that noise out if that's the case. You can't hinder how we like our games.

Lastly yeah go ahead and make your own complaints towards what other games you feel, if it's truly your opinion then rock with it. You're making it seem like everyone wants to dislike something about this game when people just truly want to love it.

1. Guy, their frustrations don't have merit in the cases I pointed out and the frustration they're having is due to their own mistakes or wants outside of the games parameters. I can and will have gripes with people whining about game design elements that ultimately lead back to it being their own fault in the end. Just because it's their opinion doesn't mean it is legit and reasonable and they don't have to love it, simply understand that the game is made the way it is purposefully for us to play it within their confines. I can't reasonably sit here and get upset with Dark Souls because it's a hard game meant for gamers to grind it out and learn it's combat system as that's how it's meant to be. It was made to be that way for them to have the experience they wanted you to get and they aren't sorry for that. The same applies here.

2. I already agreed on the pacing and speed of which your character moves as a valid complaint. That isn't unreasonable for gamers to complain about. I was speaking on those whining about not being able to do any and everything they want in missions, in the world, not being rewarded soon enough, the game "not respecting their time" or in menial tasks, like looting. Those aren't reasonable complaints and I won't sit here pretending it is just because it's their opinion.

3. Some will love and understand their artistic vision as it pertains to how they intend for us to experience this game and some won't. Such is life. You can't please everyone but I'd bet all the money I have that they pleased many more than they upset with their choices in this game.

4. If your complaint is valid, sure. If it's asking for a square peg to be fit into a round hole design wise and invalid then no, you'll hear all that noise whether you want to or not. Sorry, not sorry.

5. Again, I don't care that people have their negative feelings about this game SO LONG AS they are actually valid and reasonable complaints. Just because it's their opinion doesn't mean I or anyone else have to honor it as just when it's nonsensical and you and others here need to learn that.

This is what it boils down to.

Which complaints and why do you think they're not reasonable complaints? Who's to say it's not reasonable to them and what they like? I think the looting example is reasonable, what other examples do you have because right now everything I've seen thus far makes sense. You're making it seem like people are saying they wish Arthur could legit fly from one side of the map to the next when really I haven't seen anything like that.

What complaints aren't reasonable? Start naming them and we can see what's reasonable and what isn't reasonable.

Cordy I've already given examples that I won't respect as complaints seeing how ridiculous they are. This is going nowhere and neither of our thoughts are changing anytime soon. Let's move on as I don't have the time or energy to keep going back and forth here.

Hyperbole from both sides just makes proper discussions on this game's flaws harder than it has to be. I mean this happens a lot. When there is a game that gets such a high meta and so much over the top praise people who don't like it as much feel like they have to exaggerate their complaints as well to compensate.

Yeah I agree with you. I just don't even get what's completely off bounds regarding this. Me, I've beaten the game and I enjoyed it but the complaints I've seen I see what people are saying. Some of the responses I've seen online from both sides just looks crazy to me so whenever it's brought up it's hard to understand where people are coming from.

Like you said it happens with games with a high metacritic score.

Same thing happened with BOTW too.

I can't believe how drastically my opinion of this game changed. The first night I played it I was so bored I put it down and didn't touch it for a week. Now that I got past the intro and have been playing in the open world and just wandering and doing quests as I come across them, I think it might be the best open world game ever made. Even better than GTA V, Witcher 3, or Skyrim (for its time).

Question: if I leave my horse in a town and take a carriage, will my horse respawn at camp later?

I can't remember who I was talking to about it. But I just accidentally choked someone while trying to board my horse. I was definitely wrong.

Just beat the Chapters, that was good. There were definitely parts in Ch 2-4 that I wasn't a fan of, but there were some gems in there.

I'll work my way through the rest of the game this week.

Man, one week ago I was feeling tired about the game and I actually thought I was gonna drop it, now that I finished it I feel like replaying it from the start right now.

Won't do it tho, I won't have much time during the week so I'll probably just play post game or Spyro but I would really love to re-experience some things.

I don't know how many missions can only be completed as Arthur but the widow mission is one. If you come back to her as John, you find her dead.

Cool

I finished her missions as Arthur and went back as John (she didnt appear as a stranger icon on the map though) and it led to a cutscene about John telling her that Arhur passed.

I hadn't done it any time in my dozens of hours playing through to the end, and then about 15 minutes after reading someone mention it in this thread today I went ahead and accidentally choked a poor bystander while trying to mount my horse near the Saint Denis carriage post. Must be infectious.

Or a nam-shub.

I've finally hit the biggest milestone in the game: BEARD LEVEL 10.

I told myself I'd get a respectable haircut once I did, but now I'm too scared to trim it in any way. They should unlock the ability to set beard length at a whim (no waiting for it to grow) as a reward for hitting level 10 :)

Okay, beat Chapter 6. Wow. Loved that. Setting, directing, music was on point.

Playing as John I expected but that's the best post game twist ever imo. My favorite since Mario Odyssey sent you back to Mario 64 castle after main story too.

Going to play the rest of the missions slowly and maybe start another game by side it but wow. Game of the year. Arthur grew on me. At first i didn't like him but now I am 100% Pro Arthur

I have a quick chapter 6 question that I hope someone can help me with:

I'm at the point where you bust John out of prison with Sadie. After finishing the breakout mission, I also did one Micah mission where you finally kill Cornwall. My question is, will the "Dead or Alive" status in the Eastern region stick around until the end, or will it eventually be recalled? I want to know if I should roll back to an older save so I can do some collectibles without being chased around all the time.

Thanks in advance.

Anyone?

But I've been recommending people make a save every chapter because the world changes every chapter. There is stuff you can't access once you hit chapter 6. There's stuff you can't access once you complete chapter 6. etc. etc. for every chapter in the game.

Finally made it to Chapter 3. Been playing for way too damn long in Chapter 2 just running around doing all sorts of side stuff - skinning, collecting, challenges, exploring.

I'm sure it's been said many times already, but so far I love the game except for the sluggish controls. If I could tabulate how much time I've spent accidentally running people over, running into people riding horses that swerve into me and then I am wanted for murder, and running into trees, it would probably be like 10-20% of my playtime, heh.

But again, mostly having a blast.

I just fire bottled a group down near Fort Riggs in the West Elizabeth area. Also seen them near Rhodes.

Does anyone have the physical strategy guide? How is it? I'm thinking about picking it up for a second playthrough, and I'm wondering if it does a good job of pointing you to side content as it becomes available.

Being proud of yourself as it cuts to the cinematic slowmo as you land choice shots on pursuers during a mission, then you run into a tree because you can't steer in cinematic mode. Restart from checkpoint. In other games I'd get angry but it's no big deal in this game, you just lose like 30-45 seconds of progress. I hope the GTA team learns from this for GTA 6.

The only time it's REALLY bothered me was I had tracked a black bear for like ten minutes because the bastard wouldn't stop running, finally got his perfect pelt, walked back half a mile to where my horse was within range. Finally got it on my horse and located the nearby trapper, only for my horse to suddenly swerve into a stump and keel over, and then a cougar killed me.

But yeah, most times it's a relatively quick respawn.

Just close down the game and restart if that happens. If you're lucky an auto save was made when the pelt was put onto your horse. I've done this to save giant pelts on my horse when I do something stupid and die. Manual save after putting perfect pelts on horseback will also do this. Manual saves is essential in this game honestly.

It depends on what exactly you mean by "important," the two epilogues connect the story directly to RDR1. Outside of one mission there's few surprises, the missions just show how things end up the way they are at the beginning of that game.

Basically it's very revealing to the story of the franchise, but Arthur's story is over and outside of a few cameos most of the gang are out of the picture.

But regardless of how "important" it is you should definitely keep playing.

You don't actually "lose" Legendary pelts/parts if you die, they automatically get sent to the trapper. The only thing you lose is the ability to sell those parts to him.

EDIT: you said "giant" pelts, so I may have misunderstood - I guess you mean large animals. Yeah, I'll manual save next time, I'm pretty sure there wasn't an autosave when i put the bear pelt on my horse though

Yep, large animals. Sorry about that lol. Yeah, I learn that trick early on. I usually manual save doing this, or before I do a robbery or something that usually goes south quick lol.

Nah. In my case it's more of Order 1886 situation. I truly hate the gameplay. If this was any other game I would have given up in chapter 3. But because of the praise I'm forcing myself to play it. Which makes me hate the game even more. But to be fair there are occasional stretches that I enjoy. Chapter 2 was pretty good and beginning of chapter 6 is OK.

What confuses me it's defense force for this game. It got great reviews already why keep try to convince others that it's "perfect"?
