Just got 100% on Spyro 3. Now all that's left for me is rounding up missing trophies in Spyro 1 and 2, and getting the final skill points in Spyro 2 and 3.

For Spyro 3 I definitely noticed the lack of polish. Got some weird graphical glitches and had a bug where I needed to restart the game because Spyro got stuck and couldn't claim a dragon egg. It only started to show up near the end of my playthrough, and thankfully wasn't too disrupting. Spyro 1 and 2 on the other hand seemed perfectly polished to me.

Spyro 3 I'm a bit mixed on, since I really like the variety in some cases, but there's also some really garbage missions in there. Like every time you play Agent 9 for instance, the game completely changes the type of shooting gameplay in the mission for better or worse. It's kind of clear that Insomniac was just winging it back then due to the huge amount of gimmick levels they added. I think it's the messiest game out of the three, but at the same time I was enjoying it more than Spyro 1. So my feelings here are 2 > 3 > 1, which coincidentally is how I also felt after replaying the Crash trilogy.

Overall, had a blast this past week playing through these games. Really hope it is successful so that Toys for Bob gets a chance to do a new classic Spyro game.

What the hell- I thought that mysterious door in the Artisan's homeworld would open up revealing some cool secret! It's still locked even after I got 120% what gives! It even jiggles when you charge at it? Does it open after beating all three remakes?
I'm soooo glad I'm not the only person who found that weird. As far as I can see across both Spyro 1 and 2 (haven't started 3 yet), that door is a one-of-a-kind. I feel as if there has to be something behind it. Maybe not now, but in the future.
Can you not 100% glimmer before jumping into a world in spyro 2? Or do you need to unlock abilities first?
You need to unlock climbing to 100% it, which happens in the second home world.
Like I mentioned earlier in this thread, it is possible to 100% Glimmer your first time in it (because I did just that), but it's pretty difficult to do so.

Just finished 100%ing the trilogy. Holy shit, this has easily become my favorite remake and PS4 title so far. Toys For Bob did a stellar job remaking these games. Some observations and nitpicks:

Pros

- Game feels just as good as the original games did.
- Original music option
- Skyboxes and environments for the most part stayed true and look stunning
- Sparx's health being represented via controller LED
- Most of the characters look alot better then their original designs.
- Most of the minigames thankfully got nerfed to be alot less of a pain.
-
The mysterious locked door in Artisans, the mysterious room in Dream Weavers and the "old" platform for Super Bonus Round are a big tease (Apparently I'm dumb, they reinstated the portal outside the final boss and I didn't see it somehow.). I'm hoping these lead to potential DLC ala Crash.

Some observations, nitpicks and cons

- Not a bad thing per se, but I noticed the clubbing enemies are programmed to start attacking you from further away, meaning you're more likely to become a dragon pancake.
- While the new music does the job, I feel it doesn't reach the pedestal that Stewart Copeland's rose up to. On a side note, they lopped off the endings of those tracks to get them to loop and it also sounds like the dynamics are much flatter now which is a shame.
- The load times are noticeably not the best. People complain that PS1 games look bad but at least they did load 4-5 times faster then these remakes.
- It is evident that Spyro 2 and 3 was unfortunately rushed for release with noticeable visual bugs and glitches.
- Motion blur is abit excessive.
- Some of the skybox redesigns weren't my thing, for example I liked how Beast Makers world was originally in a 'swamp ocean' in the original that now seems to be just in a regular swamp.
- While I understand why they made the change, I wasn't too thrilled about the change of firearms to paintguns(?) in Twilight Harbor. The sudden sight of firearms added to the surrealness that i liked from the original games. (Apparently it wasn't for censorship reasons after reading around which is interesting.)
- An opportunity was missed so that the player didn't have to redo an entire level in Spyro 2 just to reach the end of it, unlike 3 where it saved all the progress you made.
- A little thing I would have liked to seen was the addition of the dragonfly eggs from the Japanese version of Spyro 1.

Overall, the wait for this was sooooo worth it. Absolutely recommended for everyone. Please let there be DLC cause I want more damnit, more!

Got Platinum in Spyro 1 & 2, will probably tear into 3 tonight (which I've been most looking forward to - it was my first Spyro game and the one I'd played the most). I know some people dislike 3 (or at least like it less) for having too many minigames and characters but I've always dug it.

I'd forgotten how damned annoying some things in Spyro 2 are - main offenders being the Cowleks in Zephyr and the thieves in Mystic Marsh (those especially) - presumably they annoyed me also the first time around, but I don't remember the game enough to know for sure.

Alright so how does a game in 2018 NOT have subtitles?

Is it hidden somewhere deep in the menus and access with a cheat code? I mean c'mon... seems like a big oversight.

It was the same with Crash. And I'm pretty sure a thread was opened on this very forum regarding that issue. It's a little disappointing: I may not need subtitles, but deaf persons and people who suffer from hearing impairment do.
It is a little thing for most, but for some it is essential.

Does anyone have problems with the Spyro 3 trophy regarding the killing of vultures with the turret? I've killed all of them but it doesn't pop up...

So I finally had to stop playing as I had gotten 'stuck'.
Second boss fight in Ripto's rage is very, very tough to get perfect on, imo. Hell I'm not even going for perfect, just the achievement (beat the boss without using food) but the problem is if I take damage, food spawns. And if I don't hit the food, the boss heals.

In other words I really do need to go perfect (or almost perfect) to beat the damn guy. Got him down to 2 health but always make stupid mistakes near the ending.

Tonight for sure.

Platinums and 120% in Spyro 1(9hrs 40 minuites) and 2(10hrs 46 minuites) Whew, never thought i'd make those speedway time challanges but i did!

Gonna change pace and play The Last of Us before jumping into Spyro 3. I want more Spyro but i'm also afraid of getting getting tired of it after playing 20 hours of it over the last week.

You'll get it eventually, it took me a couple of tries before I finally got it. Thankfully he only healed himself once throughout all of my attempts.

I realize that if I get hit twice (green sparkx) I basically need to reset the fight as chickens will constantly spawn.
Gives me one chance. And yeah I'm getting more used to dodging the lightning. Always nice to have a challenge in these games.

Wait until you beat the game and use the permanent super flame on him.

Got the plat for the first and working on the second. I forgot all about being able to swim in Spyro 2. It's so refreshing to not be undone by a puddle anymore.

Also I like how there's a trophy called Exterminate for killing all the Daleks robots. lol

I love this game.

Eight year old me is so happy.

Spyro is my Christmas game. I must've played the original every Christmas for about 15 years now.

I want to just play constantly, but I'm telling myself to take it steadily so I can enjoy it throughout the rest of the year.

Fracture Hills is the worst stage in the trilogy IMO.

You didn't do the alchemist mission you first visit, did you? If so get ready to do it again when you return to do Hunter's mission.

Thinking of getting this for my gf. She isn't a hardcore gamer but enjoys LEGO games, Guild Wars 2, Mario Odyssey, and co-op with me on Diablo 3.

Think this is a good pick up?

Yeah, I was never the biggest fan of Fracture Hills. Actually, I've always kind of considered the second half of Autumn Plains to be the second game's low point. The level designs/motifs either don't engage me (Magma Cone excepted) or the challenges are irritating. Hunter's popcorn race can eat all the dicks.

Never played the Spyro games before. I'm really enjoying Spyro 1.

A couple things are a little clunky. I wish approaching a level arch the screen populated with information about the collectibles of the level. Auto save points while collecting gems aren't clear sometimes and I end up scowering the level looking for somewhere I haven't been, when in reality, I need to be searching for some slightly hidden gems I've already collected but respawned because I died. I also wish the guidebook would tell you how many worlds were in each hub area, or at least an overall percentage for said hub so I know if I need to find another world or not.

Those are minor gripes though.

Spyro is a very simple and easy platforming series. Maybe the controls will take some getting used to but I'm sure she'll like it.

You should probably play it, too. ;)

Little tip: Press L3 and Sparks will point towards the closest gems. Do this when you have 5 gems left and don't know where to look.

I fuckin forgot this and had to do it twice! I was SO upset lol

Crystal popcorn minigame in Magma Cone can fuck right off too. The VA for Hunter is less condescending in the remakes, but i still hate him.

I know people struggle with the flight levels, and I was never able to do them as a kid, but I've had some pretty sloppy runs and still managed to get everything in the time limit, so there is a margin for error there.

I really miss how condescending Hunter sounded. It was really amusing to me when playing the originals in 2014.

As someone that didn't play these games until 2014, Spyro is leagues better than most 3D platformers from that era. It's a shame that Crash stole the spotlight since all three Spyro games for the system trash Crash's platforming efforts (though Crash Team Racing is still really good).

I agree I never played Crash back in the day either but recently picked up the PS4 remake and just couldnt get into it. It wasn't really a platformer like Mario felt more like a mobile game where you're running from a boulder like those runner games. Dunno what the fuss is about. It really is nothing like Spyro or Mario. These are true collectible platformer games and charming from that era. Crash was like i dunno wtf that game even knew itself what it wanted to be. Feels like an endless runner but sometimes has light elements of platforming but then its nothing really like a 3d platformer either as you're on one path and cant really explore. the levels aren't open like Mario 64, Banjo or Spyro.

Crash is basically a sidescroller like 2D marios or Donley Kong Country, but in 2.5D/very light 3D perspective.

Crash is really unique in what it is. It's like a... corridor platformer? I'm not sure how to quite describe it. I would be all over a CTR remake.

Yeah, these remakes are fantastic and gorgeous, but the VA is lacking. Doesn't have as much personality. One Hunter line always stuck with me: "Heyy, you're a pretty good ah-tha-leet~" Like, sod off, Hunter lol. Doesn't have the same bite here.
