Remember columbine and how crazy that was back then...pretty much unheard of and it was in the news spotlight for what...months? Sad that these shootings are so common now that events like this are nearly forgotten overnight.
There were mass shootings before--Luby's in 91. But yeah, I feel that Columbine opened a Pandora's box.

I live very close to Mercy. Guess that's why I saw a ton of police going south on Michigan a while ago

Are Americans used to this? It seems horrible from the outside, it's at least one major incident every week and who knows how many don't even get any notoriety.
This is the closest hospital from my house and I'm literally shrugging this news off. Going about my business worrying about my credit score and hoping I don't get sick cause of the debt of medical bills I'd pay even with insurance. I'm happy my family is close and doing well but that's about it.

A hospital is a place that really could do without an evacuation.

If this is related to the stay in their lane shit then the NRA need to be shutdown

What are the updates on this? Is everyone okay? :(

I don't even have words for this type of situation anymore.

Why a hospital? I feel like it'd be more likely to have more armed officers/security around to stop you than most public areas.

2nd Amendment needs to be repealed, that or enforced more strictly by having it apply strictly to organised militias. Then put a huge tax on the registration of said militias, say, the amount required to pay for the treatment for every innocent American caught up in this warzone the NRA helps to facilitate, as well as the compensation for the families of said victims. Guns and ammo should be taxed to high heaven as well. That, or gun nuts can stop being fucking psychopaths and realise that their rights aren't as important as the rights of sick people/kids/concert goers/movie goers/gay people/black people/everyone else murdered by the greed of politicians and the NRA, to not be executed by a random cunt with a grudge and a gun.

I'm from the UK, but you guys over there must be numb to this by now?

Yes. I still remember when Columbine happened and it seemed like the whole country stopped as people discussed why it happened and what could be done to prevent it before pointing the finger at Marilyn Manson and DOOM. Now mass shootings happen and it's just another day in America.

BBC US/Canada news not reporting.

The last shooting was the main headline in the UK. Probably nobody dead yet, hopefully the cop pulls through.

I have to keep shaking myself to tell me that it's not ok. Too many of these things, it starts to feel "normal" and it's horrible.

Any public place I go into, basically first thing I do is look for exits and scenario plan how I get the fuck out. Shouldn't be like this.

Damn, I feel for y'all over there.

What annoys me is how almost all LEO organizations and cops support Republicans and are pro-gun. You would think cops would rather the populace not all be packing heat since these very cops are in the line of fire.

Any half decent metal shop could make the machines you need to make bullets in an afternoon. It'd be much easier to get rid of all the guns than to make it impossible for people to roll their own ammunition.

Any half decent metal shop could also make auto sears to convert ARs to full auto, but they don't because the BATF will come down on them like the hand of god. Instant 5 years in prison. Make it that serious of a crime.

Make ammunition serialized. Anyone caught manufacturing or possessing unserialized ammo gets a trip to club fed.

It's because the news keeps covering them disproportionately, and everyone keeps talking about them. If the news covered them less, there would be less people turning themselves into martyrs.

That, plus federal-level gun control would go a long way too.

It's a big chicken and egg issue.

Let me put this into perspective. A cop is shot and is in critical condition and had to be rushed to ANOTHER hospital after GETTING SHOT AT A HOSPITAL.

Are Americans used to this?

Yeah, kinda. We have mass shooter training at my work and in schools. We treat it like earthquakes or tornadoes.

Basically, we're all in a lottery where you don't want your number to be called up. And any attempts to subvert the lottery or at least try to mitigate it are met with ferocious opposition.

Why is this happening actually, is this because of the recent NRA tweets against doctors?
Way too early to point to a motive. That said, a hospital is a terrible place to go if you're an asshole determined to carry out a mass shooting. It is, however, an apparently excellent place to go if you're an asshole hoping to achieve suicide by cop. We had one of those a few years back, a guy with a realistic BB gun and an apologetic letter addressed to the cop who shot him as if that would smooth things over.

Fucking hell, this shit is an almost weekly occurrence, I don't freaking understand how so many assholes sweep gun issues under the rug.

I work in a hospital as part of my research work, and they recently had me doing online training which included a module on dealing with active shooter situations. My thought at the time was what fucker would choose to shoot up a hospital of all places, but I guess this is the world we live in now
