So I've asked this a few times but do we have any rumblings of 3 on PS4 being localized?

It and 6 are the only localized games missing from my collection but I'm wondering if the bring over 3 on PS4 it'll have the stuff they cut out of the initial release.

Ok. 70 odd hours later the credits roll on Kurohyou 2. I loved it, no surprise really but I do have a few issues exclusive to this particular game due to its combat system that I don't have with the main series though those are minor issues.

So story: The greatest thing this game does is make Tatsuya way more likeable. I spent most of the first game hating him, as he's... well a complete prick. He's a violent bully who lashes out, murders one dude he's robbing and then mopes when the Tojo Clan catches up to him. He wasn't meant to be likeable though, the game did a great job of showing what a dick he was. Near the end of the game though his personality shifts for the better and the sequel picks up a year or so after the first game. He's matured, still a hot head at times but is just generally a much more likeable and cool character. He's not perfect, and he's not Kiryu (which is a good thing) and as always the game gets a great cast of supporting characters to help him through his journey. Also like the first game we get a great series of baddies, all fleshed out just about enough while an overarching story comes into play with the expected twists and turns. Also like the first game is the comic book cutscenes rather than full FMV, something I really love as they are so damn stylish and do such a great job of telling the story.

Combat wise is interesting. Its slower paced than mainline games due to the 1 on 1 focus of most fights. You have less combos and moves than mainline games but the physicality of fights is way more pronounced. The objective is to wear down enemies (especially high level ones and bosses) so that they tire out (this can be seen on screen by them limping/clutching their wound). As you wear them down they become easier to stun/stagger while in turn makes it easier to combo them and use heat moves against them. Its an interesting approach and due to how heavy hitting each attack looks and sounds you really appreciate just how brutal your attacks can be. Sometimes the AI can feel a bit too cheap with its attacks, and having to bash the X button to regain control of your character is a shit mechanic that can get a bit annoying at times, but I absolutely loved how combat worked especially against bosses in this game. They felt far more "fair" than some mainline bosses as bosses were susceptible to the same weaknesses as you were, and could be combo'ed, countered and perfected if you are careful, no super armor here (well, bar that penultimate boss, but 1 out of 11? aint bad! No guns either in this game, almost all combat is solely done with your fists)

Load times for fights also can take a while. However you can mitigate said issue somewhat by installing the game to a memory card. I had no memory card large enough so I couldn't do that. It really only gets annoying when you have enemies that spawn in your way, one after another. And that brings me onto the camera... The game has a fixed camera angle like in Yakuza 1 and 2 (the PS2 ones) which makes sense considering this is a PSP game, and for the most part its fine - you get some points where you get "stuck" as the perspective switches but you accidentally move away from where you wanted to go, this can repeat a couple of times due to the way controls and the camera work on these switches. A bit annoying at first but easy to adapt to after a short time with the game. Harder is dodging enemies when the camera makes it impossible to see them coming, getting stuck on the environment which is super hard to see due to the perspective. Again. Its a minor issue but getting dragged into unwanted fights can be a tad annoying when your trying to do something specific.

Content wise the game is chock full of stuff to do. Basically most main fixtures of Yakuza are in (bar Billiards) with a cool HOTD styled arcade game that is a tad limited by the system but still fun, Mahjong is as great as ever, Karaoke only has one song but its sung by Majima so that makes it amazing! and you can learn more fighting styles by doing some of the many side stories available.

Performance wise the game is fantastic bar the camera and load times mentioned above. The game is insanely smooth and while graphically its compromised due to fitting two full cities and a ton of content and story onto one UMD disc the game itself feels like it runs at 60FPS especially during combat (but I can't confirm that for sure). Basically if you want a Yakuza experience on the go you won't find a better choice.
Only issue with the content I have is that the ranked fights have a cool down timer on when you can fight the next battle. I'm 70 hours in and am only ranked 16/30. Getting to rank 1 will take hours of waiting and mere minutes (or seconds) of actual fighting. Its badly designed as the fights themselves are a blast but having to wait sucks.

Also, difficulty wise this game is actually pretty much the only game that actually feels hard in the series (to me, at least). Enemies are stronger than you early in the game, especially Yakuza and then once you start leveling up you gain a noticeable advantage. Then in the final chapter the enemies and final couple of bosses get even more powerful, causing something of a difficulty spike. Premium Adventure mode dials that up as enemy levels are even higher (higher than you) which actually makes fights last far too long for my liking. And since they didn't really allocate extra EXP for these super strong enemies it becomes a grind. Thankfully I kept me final chapter save so I can just do everything on my story save instead! Certainly if your looking for a challenge you'll find it here!

Right now I just have the last few side stories and hostesses to complete then I'm done. If I can figure out how to tackle ranked mode in a manor that doesn't have me wait around for ages I'll do those too. Now to wait for Judge Eyes and RGG4 to arrive!

Gachapin mentioned this on discord, but I thought its worth mentioning here as well:
https://www.famitsu.com/news/201811/15167573.html

Lots of new mini game info on Famitsu for Judge Eyes. I'm lazy so I'll only give the overview version!

The new Mahjong location has a new mode/rule set that I'm still trying to get my head round. Sounds interesting though and is definitely where I'll be spending loads of time on. Its another sponsor/tie in deal (like the series loves to do) and I do love Mahjong loads. So I can't wait to get stuck in.

The arcade (my other home away from home in Kamuro) has the following to enjoy:
UFO Catcher (now with more new toys and old classics)
Motor Raid (first ever home port)
Fighting Vipers (woo!)
Virtua Fighter 5 FS (WOO!)
Puyo Puyo
Space Harrier
Fantasy Zone
Kamuro of the Dead (basically HOTD X RGG Of the End. Its a lightgun styled zombie game based in Kamurocho, fleshed out compared to its Kurohyou 2 counterpart)

Drone Racing is deep like Pocket Circuit Racing. Loads of parts to collect, customisation to get the best race times etc.

Your pinball machine can be played in your office

More returning mini games like traditional Mahjong, Darts, Shogi etc.

No Hostess clubs, you romance girls via doing side cases now.

Speaking of which - side cases are activated from your office (as well as by traditional means by bumping into people in the game world) and have you solving smaller cases that look to utilise different gimmicks used in game (like disguises, your spy drone etc.) One particular case looks pretty cool and will definitely make you go ONO!

The VR game looks confusing from what I read. Looks like a board/dice game but I don't quite understand the rules just yet.

Im interested to see what the 100% completion list looks like on this game. Bear in mind the devs have stated that it should be "Yakuza 0 size" in the past and would take around 100-200 hours to clear the completion list (trophies are apparently being made easier though). Only red flag I see is Puyo returning as I could never clear the list requirements for that in 6 (you didn't have to thankfully). But other than that it looks like that there will be a ton of stuff to do, and quite a bit different to what was included in past games. The arcade in this one is fighting 6 for my award "best arcade in gaming". Pity we lost Outrun in JE, I love that game.
That sounds so good!

I always wanted to play Motor Raid so I am happy they are bringing it. Hopefully they can find someway to bring Outrun 2 and Afterburner Climax in the future.

I would be happy with replaced vehicles and jets to avoid copyrights.

I was thinking about the same thing actually (re: OR2 and Climax). Both because I want re-releases of those and because they'd be about as perfect as you can get for Yakuza mini games.

Anyway, more Kurohyou 2 played today. Did some gambling and lol at how broken the cheat items can make this game! So like in past games they make it so you can win points super easy. However what makes things all the more delicious is that: After getting a set amount of points you unlock a new difficulty level on all Casino games that let you bet up to 10K points (so no shitty tiny limits like in past Yakuza games). And depending on the game you play, the payout can be massive. Imagine playing Solitaire or Roulette and getting a 30-50K payout using a cheat item. Oh and platinum plates are only 1500 points to purchase. Money is officially more disposable in this game than it was in 0! Which is useful just to get all the upgrades to combat stances.

As mentioned above, there are a couple of new casino games. As well as the four mainstays you also get speed and solitaire to play. Speed has you trying to get rid of all your cards faster than your opponent while Solitaire is just the game that comes pre loaded with Windows. Nice to have some further options! Oh, and cheat items can be repurchased using cards you get from a guy in Sotenbori. So you will never have money issues in this game.

Getting on well with the hostesses as well now. Done 2/7 and nearly done 3 others so this should be done soon. Also still painfully slowly climbing the rankings on the ranked fights. Oh, and I'm rank 25 on Mahjong now!

I just finished the Cabaret Club in Yakuza Kiwami 2 (outside of maxing out Kirara) but im really glad I've finished it up now I can get back into the story. Also does anyone have any advice for Mahjong? There is a quest in Kiwami 2 I've been trying to complete for weeks now that requires me to win at mahjong, but im so trash at it.

I've read from multiple people that it's worthwhile using one of the peerless tiles in the sub story because of how badly the odds are stacked against you. That's what I ended up doing anyway.

Yeah I think that was going to be my plan I was just worried about wasting it. I was really hoping I could get good enough at mahjong to win, but I'm just not good enough at it lol

There are at least 3 tiles in Kiwami 2. So even if you use it here you'll still have a couple more to use (assuming you can find them). Though I never used the tiles myself, the AI was very weak on that side story so if you have a bit of luck (as always in Mahjong) and know the basics of the rules you'll be ok. I landed a winning hand that decimated the AI in one round. However that's of course easier said than done. Best thing to do if you want to learn Mahjong is to just read some of Barticles guides on Gamefaqs from past Yakuza games, and just keep playing until you nail the rules down. Took me several years of on and off playing until I finally learned them, and now I can't stop playing the mini game.

I spent at least 3-5 hours practicing it. I know the rules I'm just unlucky I guess, plus I'm not great at planning ahead so I'm really not great at this mini game.

From what I can gather, they're mainly working on Project Judge right now. But I'm pretty sure we'll get Yakuza 3-4-5 sooner or later.

And I wouldn't be surprised if all three games are released as a boxset. That last thing is purely speculation on my part, I haven't heard anything of the sort. I just think that that makes sense in the West.

Sorry to be blunt, but we get this question every page.
The answer is no, as of yet.

Ah sorry for the bother then. I'm relatively new to this series so I haven't been following this closely.

Thanks for the reply's.

Fist of the North Star Lost Paradise £34.85 (base.com)

It's £29.85 at Simply Games but currently OOS.

That's what I'm expecting as well. Project Judge will probably be the next game to be localised.

Just got into this series from Kiwami on ps+ and my god have I been missing out.
I saw the progression and didn't understand the combat so I stopped playing it pretty early on, then I gave it a better go around last week and I've been hooked.
Only thing I'm not too big a fan of is the recharging health thing all the bosses do. Once I complete dragon style (Based Majima), I'll finish up the story and move onto 0.

Its a nicer cover than PS4 RGG3, because removing the cigarette from Kiryu on 3's cover is sort of glaring (if an understandable) change. Not long now, 2 months left and I'll finally be able to remind myself on 90% of 4's story (I only remember bits here and there).

Nice.
The recharging health mechanic that bosses have is only in Kiwami by the way.

I came to say the same as the first part of your post myself. I don't know why I've been avoiding it, but I'm addicted to Kiwami, and now I wanna play them all @_@

Just waiting for that $15 PSN credit from the promo earlier this month and then I'm gonna jump on Kiwami 2. Played 0 and Kiwami at the start of the year and loved them (less Kiwami) so I'm excited.

So glad to see a community spotlight for a series that I've fallen head over heels in love with

I've played through 0, Kiwami, and Kiwami 2 so far, and now I'm playing 3 on PS3.

It's rough....everything just feels plodding. The main quest with the orphanage, getting into fight sequences, even just picking up items. The side quests aren't nearly as good as they've been in the previous titles I've played either.

Does 3 just suck?

Not a fan at all of essence of extreme, it sucks so much having bosses regain health, even if you are quick and drink something to get heat it still feels so forced and clumsy. And good lord Dragon style sucks so much, I think it is even worse on Kiwami than it was on 0, and on that game there was no reason to use it.

3 doesn't suck. You're playing the series kinda backwards. Kiwamis are not original Y1&2, they don't have much in common aside of same story. Everything else is remade. You'd understand the progress if you played the originals back in the day. Personally I love 3. Great atmosphere and characters. Note that the game is almost 10 years old and the first one that jumped into fully 3D roaming environment with a free camera, it was an big jump back in the day.

Dragon is the strongest style in Kiwami. Always was and always will be because of one move: Komaki Tiger Drop. This counter is just OP like in the originals or even more. Destroys even bosses with ease. I't even retains the ability to do it several times in a row if opponent does a multi hit move. R1+triangle when opponent is about to hit you. Learn it from Komaki.
Problem is in Kiwami you must upgrade Dragon style through the whole from it's unplayable state. But once you do it makes all other styles obsolete.

Grayfox is dead right on his points. Dragon is powerful in 0, definitely not useless. Its probably the best style especially with the strong counters. But in Kiwami? Its unquestionably the best fighting style. They had to go down the Metroid road of stripping you of its power initially otherwise you'd just walk through the game no problem. Tiger drop and the other counters are insanely useful and really easy to land, those should be acquired asap along with attack power and attack speed up. By the later chapters it should be fully powered up (or close to it) that using it for bosses will basically be an instant win card (assuming you get the timing of counters down proper).

As for 3 - again, already mentioned above. Your comparing remakes to PS3 games. Best way to play it now is on PS4 thanks to the frame rate boost, its so silky smooth that combat is instantly improved because of it. Also, as with all the games Kiryu starts out depowered, but unlike other games you can acquire your Komaki power moves really early in the game (chapter 5). Make sure you do the Dragon Palace and Komaki stories early to improve your fighting style. Then its just a matter of doing all the side stuff to level up and unlock all the moves. By chapter 5-6 you should have a decent Kiryu that can kick complete ass in fights. But those first couple of chapters are rougher thanks to having to unlock certain moves that should be unlocked from the beginning (later games learned from that at least).

As for the story. One - I like the slow pace. So no I don't agree. It ramps up from chapter 4 anyway. Second, its got some of the most fun set pieces in the entire game - Kanda, Hamazaki, the finale two chapters etc. are some of the most entertaining bits in the series with some of my favourite boss fights. Very OTT at points (especially with the QTEs) but that's part of the charm. Also got a few fantastic cutscenes late in the game that are still up there with my favourites in the series.

As for side stories. No, they aren't bad. There are some excellent ones in there as this is the game where they start moving away from just straight forward scam stuff to more story led ones. Its probably a 50:50 split still (if that), but it gets better from here on out. Again, its got some series bests in here - the Phoenix Wright styled investigation is a fantastically designed story, still yet to be bettered, then you have some more hilarity with Mars Fighters, Akimoto and even a cool side story that highlights trans people in a positive light. The problem with the last three side stories? Cut if your playing the English version. So unless you own a Japanese copy of the game your getting an objectively inferior experience. Especially when it comes to side content.

Yakuza 3 is awesome and lovely, people just need to give it some time and be patient. It's a slow start because Kiryu's time in the orphanage is meant to feel as a reward for his struggles in the past; that's the life he wishes he could always have.

And yes, mechanically it's, well, an early PS3 game. Look up how rough the original PS2 ones were. I still enjoy it a lot though and can't wait to replay it in 60FPS at a proper resolution.

I wish they would have added that ability sooner, I remember stun locking Amon with it on 4 or maybe 5, it was pretty funny, I'm mostly annoyed with how badly locked the Majima Everywhere system is, gotta wait till chapter 10 to even bother with it and finally make any use of that style, and the battle that made me had enough was with Hannya Mask, what a drag it was, only being able to punch once, sometimes twice because he will always recover, dragon dodge at first is completely useless, he doesn't even hit that hard but he has that stupid Kiwami heat even though they fully knew nobody would have access to that essence by then.

The thing about 0 is that it is so easy to brute force your way with Dance on Majima and Beast on Kiryu, why bother learning their counters timing when you can just plow through everything with those styles.

I've just finished my first venture into this series with 0 - on PC, I don't have a PS4-, a little less than 80% in 120 hours (I just need to finish the Cabaret Club girls substories and the last Kiryu sidequest I don't think I'll go for 100% as some of the minigames, especially involving gambling, are pure madness). It was absolutely amazing between the extremely serious main story and the goofy side content, I loved every second of it and I absolutely can't wait to play the rest of the series!

The Windows client just went up too. (Click the arrow below the red button.) Probably the easiest way to access it outside of Japan right now. As the installer worked just fine on my English PC.

Edit: You may need to change the installer directory to remove Japanese characters, and move it outside of Program Files. As the updater refused to work before i did this.

You'll also need to make a SEGA ID and log in to run the game on Windows, which if you've played Phantasy Star Online 2 at any point, you should already have. If not, consult this guide.

I just finished Yakuza Kiwami 2. An amazing game from start to finish. I still have the Majima side stories to complete and I was wondering approximately how long it takes to complete.
