EDIT: You say she was born in China, but where did she grow up? My wife grew up in Japan and I'm okay with her having views that are a little less progressive than mine when it comes to issues that are more talked about in the West than in Japan. I'm gonna tell her my opinion on the topic but I'm not necessarily expecting her to be as progressive on issues she doesn't know too much about. I'd be more worried if she had shitty views regarding topics that she actually has heard about a lot. But the fact that you only say she was born in China leads me to believe she didn't live there for very long? But the bottom line remains: discuss it with her.

Why is children being exposed to get characters in media a bad thing? I never got this. It's not like people choose their sexuality, so a kid isn't going to suddenly start liking the same sex just cause Dumbledore did it. I think you need to have a very in-depth conversation about this and discover just how deep it goes. Try to find out if this was recent development picked up from somewhere, or if it's more deeply ingrained.
I can't imagine what it must be like to suddenly discover this about someone you've been married to for that long.

Well, when you believe that it IS a choice, and a bad one at that, then you will think that exposure to it is a negative thing.
In this case it sounds like it's an "that's ok for other people but not our kids" kind of thing.
